“Careful.” Kayden warns, and Julia shoots him an exasperated look.

“I am being careful.” She insists, continuing to try to slowly guide the wounded crown shield over to the bed. “I can’t believe you broke my fall.” She murmurs when they finally reach the bed.

“It was nothing.” Kayden insists, but he winces from the pain in all his joints as Julia attempts to lay him down against a mountain of pillows.

“I saw that.” Julia informs him, looking at him worriedly.

“I’m fine. I’ve had worse injuries.” Kayden insists. She still looks worried. He upturns his palm, reaching for her hand. “Come here.” He requests.

She grips his hand, tentatively sitting beside him, careful not to agitate his injuries. He silently regards her for a few moments. “Are you alright?” He finally asks.

Julia can’t help but laugh. “I should be asking you that.” She retorts.

Kayden tries to shrug, but his shoulders are too sore to make the movement. “I’m more concerned about you.” He replies.

“My knight in shining armor.” Julia praises, leaning in to give him a gentle kiss. “You’re the one warranting concern right now. So lay back, relax, and let me take care of you.”
