What do you think about endgame couples in DitF?

If it’s not already obviousfrom my pairing preferences, I think I’m extremely difficult to please when itcomes to romance in stories.

My favorite endgame pairingsare actually the ones with the least behind them: Naomi and Ikuno and Futoshiand his partner. Of course, you could argue that there’s not enough contentregarding these couples to actually care about them, but I would disagree. More does not always equate to better, and personally speaking, some ofthe most affecting romances I’ve seen happen in extremely small amounts oftime. I cared more about Simon and Nia’s feelings for each other in thefive-minute short “The Sense of Wonder” than I ever did in the full-blown Gurren Lagann series, and for an examplethat more people are probably familiar with, Ellie and Carl’s entire relationshipin Up can’t have over ten minutes of screentime dedicated to it, but those two are still regarded as one of the best and mostbeautiful love stories to ever be put to film.

So, while Naomi and Ikuno definitelydon’t get much, the little that’s there speaks volumes. In only a few moments,we see that the two share passions, support each other, and work together. Oneof my favorite bits is when Naomi brings food for Ikuno as she works latebecause, small as this act is, it’s loaded with meaning when there’s theunderstanding that Naomi absolutely does not have to do this. She and Ikunoaren’t FRANXX partners who are forced to work together for the sake of someone else.Naomi supports Ikuno purely because she wantsto, and their relationship gets even better when Naomi actively becomes involvedin the same work herself.

Additionally, Naomi and Ikuno areso appealing because they’re two people who have dealt with hardship andrejection and find comfort in one another. The two “get” each other, and it’s incrediblysatisfying to see wlw have such a happy ending where they’re understoodand loved rather than dead or suffering alone in a world where no one elsecould possibly comprehend them. While I would have loved a lot more with thiscouple, maybe just that fact alone, as low a bar as it is, makes Naomi andIkuno easily one of the best pairings DARLINGin the FRANXX has.

Now, Futoshi and his partnerhave a lot less, but I enjoy what little we’re given here, too. I may not knowwho she is, and I may not be able to care about her much at all, but I do careabout Futoshi, and it’s nice to see him find someone who truly and sincerelyloves him and wants a family with him—especially when so much of Futoshi’sin-show relationship with Kokoro was built on lies.

As for the other pairings…

Ichigo/Goro feels horrendouslyunearned. Viewers understand how and why Gorofirst became infatuated with Ichigo; she stood up for him and showed himthe Power of Friendship when no one else did. But there’s absolutely nothing indicating that Ichigo ever returnsGoro’s feelings until they’re suddenly having a baby. Again, of course, you don’tneed a ton of content to build a compelling romance, but when there is already so much emphasis on arelationship that has only ever been defined as one-sided pining, you’re gonnaneed a lot to make it believably become a mutual attraction.

Ichigo and Goro gettingtogether is also disgustingly disappointing from a narrative sense. DARLING in the FRANXX devotes a tremendousamount of time to stressing that no one is obliged to return your feelings justbecause you’re kind to them or think you’re the best person they could ever bewith. Kokoro doesn’t owe Futoshi her love, Hiro doesn’t owe Ichigo his love, Ichigodoesn’t owe Ikuno her love, and Ichigo also doesn’t owe Goro her love, either. Gorohimself understanding and being perfectly okay with this concept in “TriangleBomb” is absolutely commendable and wonderful… but all that goodness iscompletely undone when Goro forces a kiss on Ichigo in the finale. Ikuno,Futoshi, and Ichigo herself all accept that their unrequited feelings willnever be returned and move on from their infatuations, letting their loved oneslive happily in the way that they desire. Goro, meanwhile, while initially comingoff as the most mature cast member when it comes to matters of unreturned love,winds up being the most immature of all when he kisses Ichigo without herpermission knowing full well she has never shown that sort of interest in him at all.

At least Ichigo doesn’t pullher lips away and look horrified like a certain other episode-24 kiss that I alsodislike, but her agency still feels completely taken away. How Ichigo feelsabout Goro isn’t important here; what’s important is that Goro’s loved Ichigo forso long, she’s lost the guy she’s been in love with, so hey, why not just throwthe two of them together? Ichigo is essentially demoted to a prize thatnice-guy Goro gets to “win” for his kindness, and that’s absolutely baffling comingfrom a show that seemed so against pushingthe message that if you’re just nice enough, you’ll get the person you wanteventually.

The other big endgame pairingis of course Mitsuru and Kokoro, and I’ve never, ever been a fan of them. Theirrelationship has always come across as unbelievably shallow and superficial; Mitsuruis horribly unkind to Kokoro (and everyone else) in the beginning of the show,and Kokoro’s interest and attraction in him seems solely based on the fact thatshe finds him good looking and wants to “fix” him. Of course it’s commendableto encourage and help people become better people, but wanting to “fix” someoneis an absolutely atrocious foundationfor a romantic relationship, and in this case, the whole thing also adds to the nasty idea that a nice lady can “save” a mean man with her love.

On Mitsuru’s side, hisrelationship with Hiro has so much more weight. It’s easy to see why Mitsuru isattracted to and looks up to Hiro; Hiro is a strong leader who gives Mitsuruhope and inspires him to be the best he can be. Why in the world is Mitsuru attractedto Kokoro? Because she’s pretty? The relationship feels especially flat whenHiro essentially tells Mitsuru thathe’s in love with Kokoro later in the series and viewers really don’t get agood sense at all as to why.

Mitsuru and Kokoro are plentysweet in the finale, of course, and had I only seen that? I would have thoughtthem wonderful. But when I’ve witnessed the pitiful building of theirrelationship, the couple does so incredibly little for me. Where are thesefeelings coming from? It’s completely unearned.

To end on a bit of a morepositive note, I’m more pleased with the romance in DARLING in the FRANXX than the romance in Kiznaiver because at the very least, the main couple of Hiro andZero Two feels way more legitimate in episode 1 of DARLING thanKatsuhira and Noriko ever feel in all 12 episodes of Kiznaiver (which I’ve discussed in great detail here). And, thoughNana and Hachi’s “couple” status is rather ambiguous, their relationship iseasily one of the best that DARLING hasto offer, with Hachi coming to regain his emotions due to Nana and Nana comingto understand her strength from Hachi. They’re very sweet.

Im actually about to have a surgery in a few days so this helps if the doctor asks me but when my mom had her surgery a few months ago they asked her this and she said 9 bc they didnt explain at all how she was supposed to interpret the numbers and then they ended up giving a really strong medicine that her body ended up rejecting and it just made everything worse and im still mad.

My face is having uncontrollable spasms. Great. It hurts really, really, really bad.

I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think “Well, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot more” so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that “10” is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said “6” because I thought “Well, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.”
