you were in love with kento, despite his current status at the moment. you always were, ever since you two were kids yet, regret embraces your every thought. if only you had said something earlier, if only you had acted up on your feelings way sooner—if only.

it’s not like you could do anything about it, he was with ayane now and you were more than happy for him. being in her place often crossed your mind, to be the one that could make kento blush, make him flustered—you wanted that. more than anything. but you were no homewrecker.

kento’s happiness, was your happiness. as much as it hurt to say it out loud, he was your bestfriend. he knew everything about you, ever small little flaw and imperfection no one ever seemed to notice. even when it came down to your bad quality traits.

yet for him, it was an entirely different story. ever since he told you that he and ayane were dating, you’ve made sure to keep your distance if ever so slightly since, you couldn’t really being yourself to fully avoid him.

It worried him, truly. you were dear to him, and he’s always had you by his side no matter what. you’ve seen all sides of him yet for some reason, he couldn’t figure out the reason for your distance. he even felt really bad about it and he, being the blunt guy he was went to confront you—unable to bear your distance anymore.

“are you mad at me?” he asked, his grip tight around your wrist—stopping you as you walked up the stairs. his words suprised you your gaze meeting his and eventually softening as you spoke. “kento, there is nothing, you would do that could ever make me mad at you.” you reassured, your tone gentle.

despite the very feel of his hand around your wrist making your stomach erupt into butterflies making you nervous, you knew it was best to push those feelings down. “but you—” he said, his grip on your wrist loosening as you gently tore your hand away from his hold. “don’t worry about it,” you smiled, continuing on your way.

it wasn’t a real smile—it didn’t even reach your eyes. you never smiled like that, atleast not when everything was okay.. god, he totally did upset you.

but before he could get into it even more, he had some matters to take care of. alot was going on and he felt like he was actually burdening ayane instead of making her like him. he knew she didn’t love easily yet somehow, it was almost like—he wasn’t making any progress.

a few days later, he asked you to meet him a little late in the night but you didn’t mind since it was rather odd for him to want to meet this late. you both went for a walk, and the silence though calm was a little worrying. kento was never this silent unless something was really bothering him. after awhile, he stopped in his tracks, making you halt and turn around.

“kent—” you started but he cut you off, his gaze finally lifting softly. “we broke up, ayane and i.”

the silence was deafening and you didn’t even know what to say. “don’t worry, it was a mutual decision. it was sudden but, she never felt the same.” he added, making you avert your gaze. ‘should you even comment on this?’ for some reason, it made you relieved—even though you swore to have pushed those feelings down. yet seeing him like this, seeming so defeated and seemingly haven given up broke you.

“I’m sure she enjoyed the time you both spent together. you were nothing but good to her,” you comforted, smiling at him softly, surprising him. “you’re a good person, kento. even though she couldn’t reciprocate your feelings, know that anyone—even i, would’ve been lucky to be liked by you.”

your words left him breathless, finally giving him the courage to look down into your gaze. your tone was bittersweet and your eyes downcast, filled with sadness. “I’m going to tokyo soon,” your words almost shatter his heart. tokyo? wait. why?! he still—he still hadn’t even processed your words correctly..! was that your way of saying that even you, though indirectly, liked him?..

“I know it’s sudden, but i thought maybe i’d make something of myself. it won’t be the same without you, but i’ll work hard and try to do my best. I know you’ll do just fine without me, you’re stronger than you know.” you muttered, meeting his gaze briefly before turning back and walking away.

he didn’t even think before reacting, grabbing your wrist and halting you in your steps yet again. “no, that can’t be.. you can’t.. come back to me.” he muttered before pulling you flush into his embrace, his arm wrapping around your waist while his hand snuck up to rest on the back of your head.

you were speechless, your heart beating so hard against your chest you felt like you were losing consciousness. everything was spinning and if it wasn’t for his tight grip on you, you would’ve lost balance. what did he mean by, ‘come back to me’?..

“you’ve liked me this whole time, haven’t you?.. all this time, even when you distanced yourself from me.. i’m such an idiot,” he whispered, burying his face in your hair as he held you close. his voice was shaky and he was holding back tears, trying to keep it together.

you noticed this and tried to pull away to see for your own eyes, to try and deny his words but he beat you to it, refusing to let you pull away. “i’m sorry, i’m so sorry.. im so fucking sorry,” chocking on his own sob, his eyes closed shut as he held you closer and closer. “all this time.. you stayed away because i was with ayane.. i didn’t mean to dismiss your feelings like that.” he continued, sort of gaining control of his emotions and managing to keep his composure.

he pulled away, his cold yet firm thumbs wiping away the tears that fell from his eyes onto your beautiful face. you were already tearing up, unable to keep it all together. you’ve been keeping these feelings bottled up for so long it was a habit to not act on them, but now he’s got you all figured out and you don’t have a way to escape.

“I’ll learn to love you—I’ll make it up to you, i swear. i’ll do my very best, i’ll try as hard as i did to make her like me back. i’ll go to tokyo with you, and never leave your side ever again.” he vowed, his words dusting your cheeks off with a vibrant pink hue. or perhaps, was it the freezing cold? he wasn’t sure but all he knew, was that maybe he couldn’t make someone who couldn’t love, like him back. “I’ll love every single part of you that you dislike, i’ll put all my time and thought into loving you, just—please, {{user}} let me do this..”
