started to think about Eragon (absolute childhood staple piece) and how Merlin and Aithusa could have had something akin to what Eragon and Saphira had, would things have gone differently. don’t remember every single detail but i vaguely recall this part where Eragon is running, throwing up baby Saphira in the air until she flies, seemingly disappears and then comes back all grown.

so i just took the concept of them running/flying like that, Merlin cheering on, feeling that bone deep joy i imagine a dragonlord would feel upon watching these majestic creatures in the air.

don’t think immortality would’ve been so bad with a friend like that.

5K whump BBC Merlin fic

Summary: Merlin doesn't duck the chair in the tavern brawl, but due to delayed response, he doesn't realize how severe his concussion is.

Comments: I read the first few paragraphs and went yes, real whump! becasue my own memories of my concussion incident are pretty much the same. Just, you know, soccer ball to the face instead of a chair. The descrpitions in this are sublime, and I always get a kick of Merlin pushing through things. Though in this case, he's not just pushing through a concussion, he's also pushing through the believe that he has one. Oh, that boy needs supervision.
