I'd say not to worry about it too much. you should do what you want (which in this case is studying the fields you're interested in.) if you are interested in them the most and want to study them the most, then that will make you most happy. the only thing stopping you from happiness is your own doubts for your own decision making skills. whatever you choose will be the right choice. you know yourself better than any person does. you should still think through what you want, but this time just think about what you want to do. what do you like? not what you think would be the smart choice. do what you want now so you don't regret not choosing what you wanted later.

so it seems like you two will reconcile but there's still negative aspects that need to be handled first. this person seems like they could have a third party problem. they might be kind of a player. they definitely have to work on learning to settle before they get with you. even if it's not cheating, it could be quick relationships, attachment issues, quick flings, etc etc. whatever they're doing right now isn't healthy for them and wouldn't be healthy for you. in the meantime they need to work on fixing their issues while you work on healing. eventually, they'll come in. make sure you're available and emotionally prepared by that point.
