"The hell do you mean by that, Ego-San?!"
"You goinâ deaf after blaring music in your ears 24/7?"
Ego sasses and clicked his tongue, massaging the temples of his head. Anri looked at the girl a few meters in front of her in pity as she looked at the tablet in her arms. Shido Ryusei was still unconscious from the electrical shock, and in the basement, he was subdued by a straight jacket and a muzzle and is tied to a post. She had second thoughts about your methods in dealing with Shido but knew it was in their best interest if he was treated like a mental asylum patient.
"Lemme say this one more time through your rotting ears,"
Ego exhaled through his nostrils, massaging his temples as he propped his arm on the armchair. He felt like he would rip his hair out once he heard your whiny and annoying cries of discontent after hearing his recent request. It was in your contract to do whatever he or Anri told you. You even asked through the phone if all you had to do was follow whatever they had to say and that you would do it without a second thought.
And you did keep your word. You took notes of the playerâs improvements, flaws, and styles with accurately and intricately. You would even come down to the cafeteria, or the field, and tell them what they should improve on, give them words of advice if they need it or give them words of encouragement and praises after seeing their cool tricks or spend some good quality time with them to take a load off of work.
The players would even ask Ego and Anri if you were busy or not to have you watch them practice, although he knew that they wanted you there for a bit of praise here and if they did a cool trick with the ball, they sometimes even pitch in with helping you clean up after stuff or carry things to the storage of staff room.
Ego somewhat regretted having a female manager amid deprived male athletes because now they would fight over dumb things revolving around you and boasting what they like about you.
What was worse was that you werenât doing anything about their behavior and just let them do what they do.
One of the main reasons why he even recruited you was because having a manager that was around the same age group as the players would make them more at ease and looked easy on the eyes.
It took Anri WEEKS to convince you and your family to consider participating in the project. You were incredibly hesitant, considering that you would be moving away into the countryside without technology. If they wanted you on the team, they might as well bend the rules for you. They gave you high pay, freedom to use your phone with wifi as long as you didnât give out any information of the players or the project as a whole other than it was meant to mold someone into the perfect striker and have Japan win the World Cup.
âYou will be overseeing Shido Ryusei in the Japan U-20 as Sae Itoshi picked him to be a member in the team.â He stated once more, pushing up the bridge of his glasses.
âI know that but why did he pick that horny demon?! I thought that wasnât allowed!!â You yelled at them with your hair in a frenzy.
âThat little shit canât make a chemical reaction with Rin Itoshi or any of the players and his destructive behavior would earn us a red card, giving us the disadvantage." Ego explains, and you chewed the bottom of your lip, taking in the information, curling your lips in your mouth before sighing.
âFine.â Rolling your tongue into the side of your cheek, you looked at at Ego for a second but turning away and nodded.
âGood. Go pack your shit cause youâre leaving once he gets that little shit out of the basement. Now, begone.â Ego shooed you away by fanning his fan towards you. As you turned around to leave the room with a huff, you showed him the finger out of spite.
âDecrease her pat by „50,000, Anri-Chan.â Ego says, snapping his fingers together.
âForgive me and my immaturity, Ego-san. I will look after Shido as if my life depends on it.â You spoke in a monotone voice as Anri giggled at her two colleagues' spiteful antics and lifted a hand to her mouth politely to hide her smile.
A thirty year-old man and an eighteen year-old girl, having beef with each other. She finds it amusing, although sometimes she does hold you back from murdering the man.
"He awake, Anri-San?"
"Yes, a little over a while ago." She replied as she looked into her tablet to see that the said man was still awake but was screaming something. Must be curses.
"Okâjust in case if he bites me, make sure to get me some anti-rabies shots." You joked as you walked with Anri towards the waiting room of the building.
Sae Itoshi had arrived to come get Shido and was waiting for you to escort him as you fiddled with the blue lock pin on your blazer.
Anri lightly laughs at your joke but takes notice of your chain of habits. Licking your lips repeatedly, scrunching up your nose, and digging your thumbnail against your index finger are habits that say you are nervous.
"Are you ok, (name)-Chan?" She asks worriedly and you looked at her with confusion before looking away.
"Nervous, is allâI guess."
"About what?"
"Meeting one of the Japan U-20 membersâconsidering that they were picked by that money grubbing prick in the JFU."
The thought of the president of the JFU made your blood boil as you reminisced the meeting a few days ago. All of you were already in on this project deep, stoping now is wasting all of your efforts especially to the players who risked it all.
"You shouldnât worry too much. Iâm sure they wouldnât want to make a bad impression on a pretty girl like you! Even Rin and Baro treat you good!"
"Have you seen them looking at me?" You said as you shuddered at the memory of first meeting them. Their cold harsh eyes first meeting your eyes upon you introducing yourself as one of the Blue locks managers for their teams. But they havenât called you lukewarm or donkey yet, so you guess that they do treat you a bit differently, although that doesnât mean youâre intimidated by them.
"Itâs not just thatâwe would be meeting Sae Itoshi, Rinâs big brother."
"Rin Itoshiâs big brother?" Anri curiously repeated.
The Itoshi brothers had problems going on with them. Rin had once told you that he had some issues with his older brother regarding broken promises. You valued your relationships with many friends, including between you and Rin. But the thought of being up close with Sae and being acquainted, at the very least, almost left like you would be betraying Rin in a way.
Considering the fact that Saeâs attitude turned a 180 in a span of 4 years in Spain and his attitude towards the press, you were worried as to how he would treat you. Someone lower than him probably.
Being with Shido meant that you would help the U-20 team, the enemy of blue lock. You had many conflicted feelings about this situation. Playing Judas against both blue lock and Rin was a stab to your heart and there was nothing you could do about it. You sighed to yourself, all this has such a hassle, you might as well suck it up and do your job.
"This is such a pain." You muttered as the doors in front of you automatically opened to reveal Sae sitting on a plum couch boredom as he looked out the window but his attention diverted to your direction.
With long strides and your chin held up high, you walked towards Sae and did your best to not maintain eye contact but you felt him staring at you intensely, that it made you walk slower. Was he judging you? Were your clothes unprofessional? You were just wearing something similar you saw in Pinterest! Many thoughts raced through your head in anxiety as you stopped a few meters from Sae.
"Thank you for your patience, Itoshi-Kun." Anri greeted him, catching up to you after she fixes her skirt. Sae hums in acknowledgement and looks over to you, his eyes trailing down to the familiar button on your blazers collar.
"Are you blue locks manager?"
"Yes and there are a few others of us. My name is (name) (last name), Itoshi-kun."
"Oh, youâre older?" You finally looked up at him as he looks at you in curiosity. He didnât seem as scary as you initially thought he was and you straightened your posture.
"Errâyes, by a month or so."
"Alright. Show me where he is. Letâs not waste my time."
He demanded as he stood up, he has a relatively built physique, and his baggy buttoned-up shirt covers his toned muscles, no doubt about it. He certainly is Rinâs brother, both have identical eye color and features, especially their long bottom lashes and attitude.
âI take that backâheâs exactly as the articles say.â Your right eye lightly twitches as you looked over to Anri who nodded.
"Please follow us." She said as you and Sae followed behind, with Sae being in the middle of the two of you. You had to admit. He was a silent guy and very blunt. Either heâs confident in himself, or heâs arrogant. He looks over his shoulder to look down at you from behind.
"Soâwhat do you think of him?"
"Him?"
"Myâyounger brother." He specified and the question piqued your interest.
"Rin-kun is an outstanding player and possesses high intelligence on scoring goals." You replied, and what you said was true. Rin is a mastermind in the field. You could never know what his next tactical move was. He managed to manipulate everyone on the field to score a goal. If a player thought he could score a goal, he would appear behind them and steal the goal, taking away any possible chances of them winning. Simply seeing him play and trick his opponents was enough to amaze you. Without a doubt, he is a genius like his older brother.
Sae didnât say anything else. His eyes trailed away as his eyes softened upon hearing your words. Sae stops walking, and you immediately took step back to maintain distance before he looks at you fully.
"And do you believe that him and his team would win this match?" You took a moment to think. As much as you hopped and expected them to win, doubt and anxieties crawled from the back of your mind. The U-20 national team was comprised of exceptional players.
You would know because you watched them play while you were studying. For all you know, they could be on par with the big five that was called to blue lock to assess the players, all of which brutally and easily won against the remaining teams. You tilted your chin up and looked Sae straight in the eye.
"Yes, I believe that Rin and his friends can win against you and the U-20 national team." Saeâs eyes narrowed after hearing your response, you werenât too sure if it was out of disgust or amazement but now you were bracing yourself for a insult. Even so, you kept your head high with certainty.
Surprisingly he didnât reply but looked away and continued walking, as did you. The three of you arrived inside the holding room, which was called the basement as a cover name for the âpunishment room.â
The doors open and reveal Shido. He looks up and looks at Sae before he spots you beside him and brightens up.
"Ms.Manager! You here to see me?! Causeâ youâre all I can-!"
"She isnât." Sae interrupted Shido, who was about to say how much he misses you and you, who was going to disagree with him. It was by then did he notice the redhead who was a little too close to you for comfort.
"Blue lock is a cage much too small for you,"
"The fuck?"
"I will free youâI want your ego. Go wild for my sake."
And with that, you and Shido exited the building and into a shuttle bus, heading towards the training camp where the U-20 team was residing.
You had to claw the armchair to prevent yourself from choking Shido until he passed out, as he did nothing but cling to you relentlessly and talk your ear off.
"Seriously, Ms.Manager! Do you gotta always electrocute me? Donât you think itâs too much~?"
"How else are we supposed to stop you from hitting someone else? Itâs not like Kunigami is there to stop you like last time." You sighed as you tried to duck your head under his arm to escape his grip, but he, instead, tightened his hold around you.
"You sure? Causeâ I remembered the redhead chick saying you were the one who implemented the electric shockâdonât tell me that youâre-?!" You slapped your palm over his mouth.
Shido grinned widely and licked your palm, you shrieked after feeling something wet come in contact with your skin, and you pulled away from Shido, standing up and pressing yourself against the window.
"What the hell, Shido?!"
"Aww~! Still calling me by my last name?" He whines in disappointment, puckering his bottom lip and furrowing his brows to look like a toddler being upset, but you look at him in disbelief and disgust.
"Youâre so disgusting!!" You yelled as you ran towards the aisle to get away from Shido.
"Justâjust behave yourself until we arrive." You said under your breath as you sat on beside the driver who looked at you worryingly.
"Everything alright with Shido, (last name)?"
"The usual." You mumbled. Taking out your hand sanitizer and poured the transparent liquid into the palm of your hands and rubbed it throughly.
"Shido." You called out for him but there was no reply.
"Shido?" You called a second time and there was still no response. You looked over your shoulder and peered through your seat, you saw Shido staring out of the window.
Standing up, you walked towards Shido and stood behind him, he finally acknowledged your presence after seeing your reflection and looked you over by his shoulder.
"You were spacing out. Everything alright?"
"You told me to behave, so I did."
"For half an hour?" You checked your watch and looked at him with an amazed smile and raised brows. He grins and tilted his head back to look at you.
"I listen to my favorite manager after all!"
"Iâm your only manager," you sighed and looked out of the window and saw the passing scenery of the city.
"So what were you looking at?"
"Oh, just nothinâ. Been a while since Iâve been outta prison." Shido says, and he looks back at the window as the bus is met with a red light. You agreed to what Shido for the first time. Blue Lock didnât have windows for you to look out and admire the outside world.
Ego said he didnât want the boys to escape or have someone give them prohibited things. The last time you were out of blue lock was a few weeks ago, accompanying Anri to a conference meeting. Seeing the sun and its bright lights was enough to blind you. You sat on the armchair next to Shido, who immediately wrapped his arms around your waist and burrowed his face into your back, deeply inhaling your flower-detergent-scented blazer.
"My beloved manager~âĄ" he mumbles as you feel your face heat up and your heart beating faster against your rib cage, threatening to burst open from his bold action as you try to pry yourself away from Shido.
"Letâgoâ" you whispered, trying to push yourself off his hold, but he sat there unaffected. He was too heavy for you, after all. I mean, did you have the strength to push off a football athlete whoâs been through the football version of the hunger games? You soon gave up and let him cling to you with visible pink hearts around him.
"Shido,"
"Yes~?"
"You said that Iâm yourâfavoriteâmanager, right?"
"The one and only!! âĄ"
"And you said youâll listen to me, right?"
"If you say to lick your toes, I will."
"A-anyway when we arrive can you promise me one thing?" You said as you tried to forget what he said a moment ago. He notices the serious tone in your voice and pulled away, brining his legs together to sit Indian style.
"Be sure to behave yourself, ok? I donât want any problems with those people, k?" He smiles and nodded, before wrapping his arms around you again, "bet."
You were inside the conference room where the U-20 players are. You were standing behind Shido, who was wearing an Adidas white tracksuit. You felt so out of place in the room, and you didnât know why, maybe it was because you were wearing a formal attire? Everyone glanced back at you over their shoulder, and you would look at them before smiling at them politely. They would then look away with a red faces and maybe whisper something to their friends. Sometimes they would look scared after looking at you and turn their head back around. Shido glared at them with hate at the act of looking at you with hearts in their eyes.
"Quit picking your nose." You whispered, lightly kicking his chair, and so he did, flicking it in a random direction that unfortunately landed on a player's clothes.
You leaned against the wall as Sae was roasting one of the red-headed players, Sendo Shuto. Everyone in the room went silent after Sae listed a life that almost every famous person has, which left Sendo embarrassed. In the blink of an eye, Shido leaped from his chair, jumped on the tables, and slammed Sendoâs head on the table. Your jaw dropped to the floor at the scene as you jolted forward.
"Didnât I tell this jackass to behave?!"
"Getting all hung up over some titles is lame as hell! You watch your damn mouth, you dumb ass striker!!"
"Sae Itoshi asideâa nobody from who-knows-where like youâdoesnât get to talk to be like that!!" Sendo croaks out angrily before he swings his arm to attack Shido.
"Then I guess youâre the first," Shido says. He was ready to kick Sendo in the head as he did with Rin, and just as you were about to stop his attack, the U-20 captain grabbed his leg before you could.
"Man, youâre really looking down on us." Oliver Aiku pointed out. Shido tried to use his free leg to hit the captain, but Oliver caught it quickly before he swung him to the ground and apprehended Shido, one hand gripping his wrists and the other on his neck. His strength took you aback, and was more impressed as he knew how to apprehend Shido like a police officer.
"Youâre even stressing out your pretty manager over there."
He noted, looking at you over his shoulder. Stress was an understatement. You were the embodiment of panicking. You cringed a bit as Oliver called you pretty. He was a womanizer, after all. You would know because last year, one of your third-year seniorsâ was dating Oliver, and a few months later, she got dumped by him brutally. You also found many videos and news articles about Oliverâs dating history.
The captain had knocked out Shido, so there wonât be any further problems since the meeting would end soon. You folded your blazer and set it under Shidoâs head, with your face flushed in embarrassment and tears almost swelling your eyes as you tried to keep a straight and composed look.
"Iâm sorry for his violent behaviorâsir." You muttered to the coach who approached you, his face was red in anger at your player's behavior.
"You should have been-!"
"Hey, coach! Donât be too harsh on the pretty lady!" Oliver interrupted the older man as he swung his arm over your shoulder and pulled you close. You and the coach were surprised as he just popped out of nowhere. Oliver then looked at you with a grin.
"His behavior ainât her fault in the slightest, so chill out."
"What he said."
"Oliver is right. Itâs not his managers fault that he hit Sendo, pretty sure she was hoping that he wouldnât be violent on us."
"This whole thing is his fault, not hers to begin with. Is she the one who told Shido to hit Sendo? Nope." The team players backed up their captain. Who went behind you two, you looked at them with amazement, and they looked at you before looking away shyly. Oliver grinned at his men.
"I know, right~! How do ya call yourself a man if you make a pretty lady cry?" They continued to egg him on until Sae called the coach over and whispered something in his ear that made him freeze up before storming out of the room. You looked at Sae who was approaching you.
"Thanks for that. You didnât have to do that thoughâI couldnât just taken it and went on with my day."
âIts fine. It was wrong for a man to raise his voice at a woman whose not at fault.â
"Saeâs right. We knew it wasnât your fault. We would hate to see you just take on scolding even though it wasnât really your fault." Niou reasoned you with a smile and you politely bowed your head and gave the boy a smile.
"Thank you also, ummâ?" He was in a trance. He didnât know how to react as Niouâs mouth was left agape, but he could only think of one thing.
"Sheâs so beautiful!!" He thought, along with his friends. They have seen various beautiful girls in their careers but not as good-looking as you. It made them blush red whenever they were looking at you.
"Sorry, but I havenât got any of your names yet. Iâm relatively new to football, after all." You laughed, admitting your cluelessness, and scratched the back of your head, and they repressed the urge to just fanboy then and there. Sae kept a neutral face but looked away and faked a cough. Darai looked away and started to mutter prayers to repress the urge to geek out. Niou tried to say his name but couldnât because he was embarrassed and shy. Nero was hiding behind Niou but kept peeking from his shoulder before retreating behind him and fanning himself so he wonât pass out. Oliver looked at his teams' reactions and sighed before looking back at you.
"Names O-"
"Oh, I already know your name." You interrupted the man and Oliver was a bit shocked before smiling to himself and towards his teammates, who looked at him in shock.
"Is that so~? Am I that famous?"
"You actually dated my senior, her name is Hikari Fujiwara."
It took a few seconds before he remembered the name of one of his exes, a pretty girl she was, but he got bored of her a few weeks into the relationship and broke up with her. Now he was regretting either dating her or breaking up with her after seeing your cold face.
"I-is that so?"
"Yeaâshe cried to the girls and me saying how brutal your breakup was with her," you stated as you grabbed his arm and moved it away from you, and stepped back.
"I know sheâs a bit hard to handle at times, but you didnât have to just break up with her through text and ghost her after that.â You sighed exasperatingly, and Oliver sweated nervously. You were scolding him like a mother. His teammates looked at him before looking away, not wanting to get involved with him.
"Umm-"
"So, whatâs your name?" You interrupted Oliver and looked in Niouâs direction. Oliverâs jaw dropped to the floor as a girl had ignored him for the first time.
"Y-you talkinâ to me?"
"Uh-huh.â
Niou cleared his throat and straightened himself to make himself look presentable in front of you. He gives you a confident smile with pink-tinted cheeks.
"Names Niou Kazuma, n-nice to meet âcha!" He mentally slapped himself as he stuttered once more in front of you.
"Itâs nice to meet you, Niou-San."
"You donât have to be formal just call me by my first name, Kazuma."
"Really?" You looked at him with uncertainty but he nodded eagerly at you.
"Yea, I donât mind!!"
"Alright then, Kazuma." The air was knocked out of his lungs. Niou could faint right then and there and fell face first if it werenât for Darai catching him as he stumbled back.
The remaining two introduced themselves to you shyly, making you smile in relief. They werenât as scary as you thought they would be. You, at the very least, hoped Shido would get along with these boys. Although thinking about it, you may be asking too much.
Sae offered to carry Shido to his dorm room, but you tried to assure him it was alright, but he persisted until you let him carry the unconscious gyaru boy towards the private dorm of you and Shido.
âThis is it.â You said, pocketing your phone and pulling out a room key, opening the door. You took off your shoes and Shidoâs shoes as well. Sae walked towards the nearest bed and laid Shido on the mattress, roughly, that is. He groans as he cranks his shoulder.
âThank you, Itoshi-kun and Iâm sorry for his behavior.â
âYou donât have to apologize. Once again it is his fault not yours.â
âOh, yea. Thanks for carrying him all the way here, he mustâve been heavy.â You smiled, covering Shido with a blanket.
âHe is.â Sae admitted making you laugh lightly. The redhead took notice at the two beds in the room and the makeup bag on the bed over him.
âAre theyâ?â He shook his head at the thought. There was no way they would let you share a room with him. I mean, the higher-ups surely had the decency to let you have your privacy.
âEverything alright?â You asked him, seeing that he was glaring at the bed over him.
âYes, itâs justâdo you and Shido sleep here?â
âPretty much.â
âWhat?â He looks at you in disbelief with his eyes wide and his jaw to the floor. You look at him and you understood his reaction.
âI know but donât worry. I know Shido wonât pull a crazy stunt. I think.â
âIâll try to get you a private room,â Sae announced. Zipping up his jersey and was about to storm out of your shared dorm room and have a talk with the higher ups. You sprinted over to Sae and blocked his way.
âDonât worry about it, Itoshi-kun! Ego-San intentionally had us share a room so I can keep a closer eye.â
âA bit too close.â
âTrust me. This is for the best. I received way too many complaints from Shidoâs last team.â You reasoned with him. Getting approached by his teammates, from his loud snoring to the threats that he would murder them in their sleep in the most grotesque ways possible and later play it off as a joke. Itâs safe to say his teammates didnât feel safe being in the same room as him. He looks at you with uncertainty but takes your word for it. Sae soon left, and you got to work, making an email about today's events and sending it to Ego and Anri.
Shido stirs away from the sound of the keyboard clicking. He left a pondering headache bloom in the right side of his head, where he slammed on. He raised his head and saw a blurry image of you sitting on a bed and balancing your drink on your boobs.
âThat arch, though.â You stopped typing after hearing Shido speak. You abruptly stopped drinking and slowly turned in his direction with wide eyes. Shido still looked groggy, his eyes blinking like a frog and droll dripping from the corner of his mouth.
âHowâre you feeling? Youâve been out for an hour now.â You said. Hopping out of bed, you opened the mini fridge and gave Shido a water bottle. He twisted the cap open and drank the entirety of the water.
ââm fine- OW!!â Shido whines after feeling a painful tug on his ear. You glared at the blond-haired boy with pink tips as you let go of your grip.
âWhyâd you do that for?!â
âDo you realize how much trouble youâre in?â You huffed, standing up from the bed and anxiously paced around the room.
âWhat were you thinking, slamming Sendo Shutoâs face on the table?!
âJust felt like it.â Shido shrugged, and you felt your blood pressure going higher. You looked at Shido in disbelief and anger before you angrily sighed.
âI could care less about how you act around other people, but this is serious, Shido. That shitty coach has been chewing me out because of your behavior toward that strawberry-haired kid!â You ranted about what happened that past hour with no breaks, and Shido only looked at you as you paced around the room with a twinge of guilt in his heart.
Perhaps he took it just a little bit too far.
âSorry, managerââ he whispers lowly after you finish your rant that left you out of breath. You turned to Shido, who genuinely looked remorseful, and your anger slowly simmered down. As you sighed, you rummaged through your duffel bag.
âItâs all in the past now. All that matters is that you make things right. I want you to make amends so that your time can be tolerable. Got that, Shido?â
âMm.â
âShido.â
âFine.â He rolls his eyes with a pout. You tossed him the U-20 uniform that was given to you by the higher ups.
âGet changed. Weâll be going out once youâre finished.â Shido inspected the uniform and looked at you with a smile that you know all too well. You gave him a suspicious look, âwhat?â
âTo think that my dear manager would want me to get changed in front of her. Not that I donât mind, though~!â As he drew the bottom part of his shirt over his chest, you threw a pillow at him with a crazed blush on your face, âIn the bathroom, you cockroach!!â
âNames Shido Ryusui, mâ 18 and, uh,â Shido trailed his words off and tried to think about another thing about himself. The U-20 players werenât impressed with Shidoâs half-assed attempt at an introduction. Sendo was burning holes into Shidoâs head ad grits his teeth in anger at the man who attacked him.
âOh yea. Under lashes senior picked me from blue lock cause of my skills for sumâ like that.â Now that got their attention.
âYouâre from that ridiculous project?â One of the players scoffed in disbelief, âThe two of us are, but rest assured,â you suddenly spoke as you entered the field in a new outfit, which you moved more capably in.
âWe arenât here for the reasons youâre thinking. As Shido said he was here because Sae wanted him to play in the same team. Nothing more, nothing less.â You explained to the group with Sae, who was trailing behind you, and they hesitatingly nodded. You then looked at Shido and gave him the signal making him sigh begrudgingly. He then looks at the strawberry-haired guy he attacked an hour ago and Sendo looks back at Shido with a glare.
âSo about our first, like, interaction. Umm, did sumâ thinking andââ Shido sighs heavily and looks back at you. You looked at him beggingly, and he didnât have the heart to ignore you, so he looked back at Sendo with his pride swallowed, âSorry for hitting ya, dude. No hard feelings, though, right?â
Sendo left his blood vessel pop at his unapologetic tone as he was about to retort, his eyes diverted to your direction, and his words were caught up in his throat. He looked at his captain and Oliver gave him a look.
âItâs no big dealââ he mumbled angrily, âare you feeling better, or are you still in pain, Shuto-San?â You asked to the boy, and he jumped back, hearing your gentle and worrying voice.
âAhh, errr, yea!â
âThatâs good to hear. I hope you can look past Shidoâs behavior and get along with him just for training, if you donât mind.â You whispered to him, and his face turned bright red once you stepped closer and nodded vigorously.
âSo whyâre you with Sae, dear manager~?â Shido asks in a bittersweet tone, giving the older Itoshi a stink eye which he returns.
âEgo-San called me a few minutes back and told me to print some papers to have the coach sign them. I just so happen to bump into him while I was coming to the field.â
âYou had me worried cause you suddenly disappeared from OUR SHARED DORM ROOM.â Shido raised his voice at the last four words, wrapping his arms around your shoulder and embracing you. He looks over your head and bathes in the jealous gaze of the players. You huffed and pushed yourself away, âalright, Shido. Get ready for training.â
âYes, maâam~! âĄâ he jogs towards the players and stands next to Sae, who gives him an eye roll, âboth of you, good luck with your training. I hope that the two of you can get along with each other and make cool passes.â You grinned sweetly at them, and they nodded with pink clouds on their cheeks.
âOh and U-20?â They turned to your direction so fast that they almost gave their neck a whiplash. Giving their full attention to you.
âGood luck with training also. I hope your practice goes smoothly with Shido.â You smiled brightly at them, and they were on cloud nine as they all yelled a yes. Now, they were all pumped up to training.
âWhere do you think (name) is?â Chigiri asks Isagi beside him. He and some other players were chilling in the cafeteria since it was their break time. Isagi hums and balances himself on the back legs of the chair.
âDunno, Ego-San said that she was busy doing some things. You know where she went, Bachira?â
âNo clue. Havenât seen her at dinner also.â Bachira responds with a sigh, missing their manager immensely, âshould we ask the other managers? Maybe they have a clue where she is.â
âWe tried but all of them said they donât know where she went.â Chigiri noted. Growing ever so curious where their manager was. You never left without telling anybody and if you did, it was because you had a quick errand to do.
âKnowing (name) sheâs probably busy right now. Our match is in 3 weeks from now, all of the staff must be busy with preparations.â Reo said, going to sit across them with Nagi trailing behind him, eyes glued to his phone.
âHopefully her work will finish sooner. Cant wait for her to compliment my skills!!â
âWhat makes you think sheâll compliment you, Bachira? Itâs obvious that her attention would be on me. After all, I am the fastest among us.â
âAs if Princess!! She was much more amazed by my meta vision.â The four argued among themselves as Nagi ignored the four and continued to scroll through Twitter. He grew bored with the games and decided to look through the world's most toxic app. He stops at a specific post after seeing a familiar set of (hair color) locks. He took a closer look at the post and saw that the girl being posted had her back facing the camera and had the same hair as you but was tied up, and upon further examination, he saw that the girl's skin color was similar to yours.
The caption of the post was: Iâm literally gonna scream cry and moan rn someone save me
âShe kinda looks like (name)âŠâ
Nagi clicked on the account and went to their tweets, and saw that it was their most recent post. Now Nagi was a simple man. He wasnât the type to put effort into anything, but if it were about you, maybe it would be worth it. So he scrolled up and saw that the account belonged to a U-20 player. Nagi searched for his mutual friends and clicked on the first name that appeared on the list.
Nagi didnât bother looking at the bio or the name and immediately scrolled down at the user's most recent tweet, and he grew pale.
It was a picture of you and the player. Said playerâs face matched his hair color and awkwardly formed a peace sign near his face, and you were beside him with your hair in the same hairstyle as the previous post he came across. You smiled sweetly at the camera with a peace sign, leveling your eyes.
And the captain said: OMG SHE AGREED FOR A PICUTEE IM SO FUCKING LUCKYY WLNFKENDKWMDK SHES SO PRETTY AND SMELLS GOOD WTF???
âWhatâs wrong, Nagi? You look like youâre gonna kill someone.â Reo pointed out and Nagi lifted his gaze from his phone, âcause I am. Look.â
Ego was having a peaceful afternoon in his dark office, drinking the tea you bought while out with Anri. He had decided to try it since drinking coke was getting boring, and it wasnât so bad. The man takes another sip of his tea and sighs, looking at the monitors as the remaining players were doing their own thing since it was break time.
âItâs a bit peaceful now-â
And just like how the word quiet shouldnât be said in the hospital, Reo, Nagi, Chigiri, Bachira, and Isagi came barging into his office as if they owned the place.
âEgo-San, we need to talk to you!!â The man sighs heavily and slams the cup on his desk. âWhat the fuck do you brats want?â
âThe U-20 team kidnapped and brainwashed (name)!!!â Bachira sobs, wiping away the tears from his eyes, which proved useless as more poured out. The dribbler pushed the phone toward Egoâs face. It was a post where you were sitting right side of the table with a smile on your face, and the rest of the table was filled to the brim with U-20 players.
âWe have to save her!â
âReo go hire an assassin!â
âWhat the fuck makes you think I can easily hire an assassin?!â
âCause youâre rich?â
âEgo-san, Iâll give you my phone in exchange of letting me out of blue lock and directing me to where (name) is. Iâll get her back in no time.â
â(NAME)!!â The boys were a mess. Bachira was sobbing in a corner while Isagi, Chigiri, and Nagi were pressuring Reo to hire an assassin to save their beloved manager. Reo was already dialing his fathers' number on Nagiâs phone and was waiting for him to pick up.
âHello? Dad?â
Ego looked at the boys with an unamused expression and sipped his tea.
âFucking simps.â

He stops at a specific post after seeing a familiar set of (hair color) looks.

'cat' the son | itoshi rin

( a/n ) when i came back the poll was 50/50 so i got bribed and itâs now decided that rin is the winner + little highschool au bc we all know they dropped out:/ idk what to title this im ngl

thereâs a cat on the sidewalk.
you have about six dollars in your hand, a faltering mission to treat yourself to a cold drink, and an aching heart at the sight of the little animal seated like a king on concrete, looking up at you with blank eyes.
its dark fur and near-teal eyes remind you of someone. of a back facing your seat, dark hair always kept neat and looking like itâs conditioned meticulously, and the sharpest eyes you have ever seen on a high schooler.
it has been a long day, long enough for you to have stormed out of the room as soon as classes ended to rush to the nearest shop that would sell what youâre craving. alas, there is a cat on the sidewalk, and you canât just ignore it.
âstay here, kitty,â you say before rushing off with the six dollars in hand and a new goal to head straight to the nearest sign with an animal cardboard cutout printed on it.
eventually, you find one; eventually, you come out of the store holding cat food and a tiny cat bowl because you were worried about letting the cat eat straight from the can. itâs baby blue with little fishes added as design, though you think itâs rather gruesome to put that there, considering the canned food you bought is made from fish. still, you hope the cat will appreciate it.
the cat is still there as if itâs understood and blessed you with patience. the unimpressed look it has on its face says otherwise, though. grateful, you kneel beside it, slightly mesmerized by the fact that it hasnât run away yet.
maybe other people are feeding it, too? it doesnât look worryingly thin. needs a little cleaning, but looks well-fed. youâre relieved.
âhere you go,â you coo, ignoring the strange looks of the passersby. you place the bowl down and crack open the can. the smell has the cat walking over, meowing all crankily. âi know, i know.â
the cat doesnât dig in until youâve finished shaking off its contents, staring at you in the same way the itoshi guy in your class would. the resemblance is uncanny.
you spend the rest of your afternoon keeping the cat company. its face speaks as if itâs far from amused, but the way it rubs against your ankle contradicts it.
cute. the cat is cute.

another student comes to visit the cat, carrying two cans of cat food. itâs been sitting in the plastic for a little while because as he had been going in the same routine he usually has, he spots you, his classmate, bent to the knees next to his cat, and paused.
rin thinks youâre scared of him because everyone in the class is. he lets you have your moment, choosing to come back later when youâve finished so you donât freak out and scare the cat. he thinks he can strike up a conversation tomorrow where there are no cats to frighten.
the cat walks up to him, instantly familiar. he doesnât even meow up at rin impatiently, which confirms rinâs suspicions.
ây/n fed you well,â he mumbles. âi guess you can have this tomorrow.â

youâre suddenly all too aware that rin sits in front of you. heâs right there, uniform stretched over his broad back, most likely because heâs the prodigy of soccer in your school.
the neatness of his hair reminds you of the cat from yesterday, with its silky dark fur despite being a stray. you resist the urge to touch it, missing the cat already. you make a mental note to refill your water bottle so the cat can drink after.
while left thinking about the fact that youâre three dollars shorter than yesterday's budget, you fail to notice that class has ended and rin has his arm slung over the top of his chair to turn to look at you.
rinâs eyes flicker down to the paper bag next to your feet. âwhatâs that for?â
startled by the smoothness of his voice directed at you, you choke out a: ât-this?â you gesture lamely at the bag containing the gruesome bowl.
âwhat else am i referring to?â
you scrunch your nose. âokay, no need to be so rude. maybe i wonât tell you what it is.â
rin stares, and youâre intensely reminded of piercing eyes looking up at you, patiently waiting for the canned tuna.
âitâs a cat bowl,â you murmur, defeated.
âcat bowl,â he repeats, a gleam in his eye. he probably thinks youâre weirder than he already thinks you are.
âfor a stray. i donât want to bring it around because some other cat owner might steal it. i canât have that.â
âshow me,â he demands.
a little terrified by the fact that the class grump is actively maintaining a conversation with you; you obediently show him the bowl, spinning it around to show all sides. rin hums, contemplative. your classmates are starting to stare. âitâs weird, right? fishes for the print and fishes for dinner. do you like it?â
âlukewarm.â
âwhat does that even mean?â
âitâs too small. buy a new one.â
â...you think?â
rin nods, standing up. the chair screeches while he says, âiâll come with you.â

this is how you end up in the same pet supply store with a companion this time. rin picks the most expensive one for the bowl and the canned cat food, which makes you think he must really like cats a lot.
but as you two leave the store, you belatedly realize heâs leading the way even though you never told him anything about the stray you meet.
it doesnât hit you until the same cat meows and purrs at rin, rubbing against his pants with its entire body.
âhi,â rin says, his voice uncharacteristically soft.
you gape. âwait, the catâs yours?â
rin bends down, knees to his chest while he sets the bowl down and cracks the can open with one finger. âno. dadâs allergic. he doesnât follow me back home anyway.â while he does that, the cat comes to greet you, and your heart aches on rinâs behalf.
so he just comes to feed him every day, huh⊠you muse, gently scratching the cat who purrs at your attention but still looks as if heâd rather be anywhere but here.
âdo you have a name for him?â
rin pauses, having finished pouring everything. â...no.â he squints at you as if youâve just asked him the exact coordinates of his birthplace: sincerely confused.
âwhat do you call him, then?â you watch as the unnamed cat starts digging down on the food, content. you wonder why no one else has already kept this cat to themselves. heâs so cute and polite.
âcat.â
âah, of course.â
you two watch âcatâ eat, content with the silence. it starts to drizzle moments later, but rin is quick to pull out an umbrella and cover all three of you. the cat grumbles unhappily at the splatter of rain hitting him.
âdo you always visit him?â
âyes.â
âdo you like cats?â
âyes.â
a shame that allergies are the only thing keeping itoshi rin from getting a cat.
while youâre distracted, the cat goes back to rin. rin wastes no time bending down to pick him up, looking awfully domestic in the middle of a sidewalk in front of a busy coffee shop. your hands twitch to reach for your phone, but youâre too stunned to do anything but stare. they look so much alike.
cute, you think, horrified, rin looks so cute holding the cat.
while engulfed in rinâs arms, the cat meows at you. and you, with a too-tender heart, canât resist.
âiâll keep him,â you declare with newfound determination. âiâll take care of him. if you let me keep the bowl you bought.â
rinâs eyes light up, though it wouldnât have been evident if you hadnât been his classmate and witnessed his varying expressions of death. (as if it was varying in the first place.)
âiâll buy everything else heâll like,â he says, like a true cat mom, his face glowing with barely concealed excitement.

since then, rin accompanies you home. you tell him that youâve saved up three dollars from yesterday and now you have more than enough to buy a nice, cold drink and maybe catnip for the cat, but rin insists that heâll pay for everything, including your beverage.
âyou feed our son.â
âour son?â he repeats curiously.
âyes. he lives with me. he looks like you,â you explain absentmindedly, setting up the water dispenser on the new food bowl rin ended up buying. it no longer has fish for design or the painful lime green he bought the second timeâinstead, itâs a nice blue that compliments the catâs eyes.
âand what are you implying is going on between us?â
you nearly spill water all over the floor. âiâŠâ you honestly did not think about that, âânevermind. donât make it weird, itoshi!â
you think you heard rin chuckling, but youâre too busy being embarrassed to bother.
(during class, you will find that rin is far from intimidating. in fact, heâs actually a little bitch to deal with. youâre starting to think that heâs more of a pain to deal with than an actual grumpy cat.
âdonât forget to buy food for our son,â rin says after class, in front of students who gossip like there is no tomorrow.
âwhat?â
âfor our son,â rin says, nonplussed at the sight of your haunted expression.
someone who has overheard the conversation pipes up, âyou two have a son?â
âwe donât!â you hiss, face burning with embarrassment at the sudden influx of attention from your classmates.
rin frowns. âdonât lie.â
âyou two are starting to act like a married couple recentlyâŠâ another comments offhandedly.
âitoshi walks y/n home, i saw!â
âwe have a son,â rin agrees, and youâre starting to think that heâs doing it on purpose.
âstop saying that!â)

thank u art aanobrain for giving me the idea of rin just naming the cat âcatâ. that idea is so special to me.
anyway. RIN IS SO HARD TO WRITE HELPPPP. this was an excruciating process i genuinely did not know if i did anything right but WHATâS DONE IS DONE. thx for reading <3
