Finding Out Someone Else Likes Videogames Really Isnt The Social Lubricant It Used To Be. Like As A Kid
finding out someone else likes videogames really isnt the social lubricant it used to be. like as a kid that could sometimes be all it took to become friends on the spot, but now its sometimes like. desperately going back and forth listing games you like, realizing you dont have a single one in common, then shrugging and ending the conversation amicably

I am not my brain and less what you think of me. Illustration by jramseyi
i’ve honestly lost patience with the majority of vegans/vegetarians which is really something coming from someone who was veg for ten+ years. i spent my teen years deeply entrenched in those communities later to discover that i was surrounded by many misguided if not completely bigoted people. it’s not that i think vegetarians are wrong to be concerned with the cruelty of factory farming, the environmental impact of animal products, and animal welfare in general. but the complete inability to engage with the idea that many people in this world are vegetarian but not by choice; conversely that meat is a crucial, healing, and/or celebratory aspect in many cultures; that veg movements have a long and intertwined history with white supremacy and fascism; that meat is genuinely needed at least extremely useful to many people with dietary restrictions and illnesses; that many people don’t have access to and can’t afford alternatives to meat (including those with religious restrictions who would rather eat a vegetarian lifestyle but are prohibited by circumstance); that many vegan options (plastic leather and fur) are actually worse for the environment than the animal-based alternative… worse few of these people seem to care about the impact of global food on human lives. humans worked to death, murdered, starving, just so we can eat produce that’s out of season. droughts in impoverished areas caused by vegetarian alternatives, food insecurity caused by imported produce, almonds and avocados being great examples. the colonialist history of american food enterprises in latin america and elsewhere. subjugation, massacres, genocide. unethical practices that continue today - slavery conditions on tomato farms. it’s not that all vegans are bad people, it’s that i wish more of them would stop being hypocrites and adopt a more global, anti-colonialist, and intersectional mindset that is friendly to all life on this planet, hopefully prioritizing humananity over “speciesism”.
