there's this website, the website for russian-language fanfiction. has all the slash fic you'd expect. it's called ficbook, it's not based out of russia, but it gets (i assume) most of its traffic from there.

the story so far:

russia bans public expressions of queerness in all forms

russia makes being queer legally equal to political extremism

amid other things, russia tries threatening ficbook, the gay fanfiction website, into removing the gay fanfiction. the ultimatum is you purge the gay or you get banned from your main audience

ficbook doesn't budge. there are plans to split off a child website to contain the slashfic and take the ban for the parent, but they don't go through

russia finally bans ficbook; it's no longer accessible without a vpn

predicting, i assume, that they can't brave the prospective losses, ficbook negotiates with russian censorship and comes to a compromise:
