Are you just my girlfriend? It seems like more. Whatever it is, I like it. A lot. I wish you didn’t put yourself in danger so often, but I know its part of who you are. So I accept it and make sure I have something warm and satisfying for you to eat when you return. I want you to keep coming back. I love you. 

And I love your son. He’s so sweet and charming and helpful. He’s a perfect balance to the girls and I think he loves it that they both want his attention. It keeps them from fighting so often, because he’s so perfect at giving them both what they want. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing for them, but I’m happy for it. 

I wake up early some mornings and just stare at you before you wake, the thin light just before dawn makes your skin glow, renders the dark lashes on your cheeks dark as pitch, your hair whorls of midnight framing your beautiful face. And I can’t help but kiss you, kiss you awake so that I can love you and tell you how much you mean to me with your hard and your soft and your sweet and your sassy. 

Keep coming home, Tia. It wouldn’t be home anymore without you.

I am glad you are dead. You turned love into a weapon and used it against me in the worst ways possible. I wish I had never met you, even though you gave me a daughter who I love so dearly. I wish you had died while we searched the ruins of Lion’s Arch. Then I could have still had Taliyah and never felt the growing resentment and dread that came later. Haunt my doorway no longer, ghost. I will speak of you no more.

You wake up one day with the ability to freeze time at will for as long as you want with no repercussions. What’s the first thing you do with your newfound powers?

Milli placed the bright yellow duck with an orange bill and orange webbed feet on the table in front of Tia, grinning widely. The feet appeared jointed and a large brass key stuck up from the back of the duck, large enough for small hands to manage. Carefully, Milli wound the duck up. After a few clicks it began to walk, taking flapping steps. Every few steps it stopped and its mouth opened and closed as it made a quacking sound. Then it would walk again.

“Everyone loved it,” she laughed. “I’m going to make some more for the Lion’s Arch orphans and Minister Albion from Lion’s Arch wants me to make 20 for the children of Lake Doric. So we’re going to be making a lot of ducks.”

She glanced at where Zahra, Naeem, and Taliyah were playing on the floor with Syrean’s entry, a magnificently detailed toy train. “And Syrean said she’d come by sometime today to ask the kids for their thoughts on the train. So I thought when she got here, we could all do something to celebrate. Like a picnic on the beach. Or maybe a trip to Divinity’s Reach? There’s a lot of neat places to eat there.”

The children were already jumping in with their own ideas for a celebratory dinner, but Milli just beamed at Tia. Her family was complete. And that’s all that mattered to her.
