I fricking loved monster high as a kid this is a blessing

POV: Fundy suddenly became a student at Monster High and merged with Robecca Steam
Ah yes a Koala
the world has its ways
introducing koalagy
ft: dads wiggy and little sondy
notes: animal conservationist au part 2

“Papa! Papa Papa Papa!”
“Fundy, Papa’s busy right now—” He was putting on his morning coffee.
“But there’s a koala!”
“What?”
George is then proceeded to be dragged by his son to their front door. They haven’t taken in any koalas, at least not yet. So this one, hanging from one of the posts on their porch is definitely new.
“Wil!”
It took a while before Wilbur emerged from the bathroom, the towel still wrapped around his body. He just finished his shower. He also looks like he just shaved. “What?”
It’s never really noticeable with all the baggy clothes Wilbur wears, but he’s really quite well-built. Shaking his head—it’s totally not the time to check out his husband—he points to the outside of the door.
“There’s a koala on our porch.”
Fundy looks up at them pleadingly. “Can we keep it?”
“Fundy, you should know what we do by now. We can’t just keep it.”
The little boy pouts but doesn’t argue. He just turns back longingly at the koala outside.
Wilbur takes a peek. “That’s weird, koalas don’t usually get close to human homes.”
“Maybe it’s thirsty,” Fundy says.
“We’ll see.” Wilbur gives George a kiss on his cheek. “Just go get your coffee, love. I’ll handle thi—” He’s speaking in his serious voice.
George raises a hand to push Wilbur away. “You’re still on your towel, idiot.”
“—s after I dress up. See. Let me finish my sentences first, Gogy.”
George rolls his eyes, waving him off, and walking back to the kitchen and to his morning coffee.
-
Wilbur had successfully convinced Fundy to go to school, after the compromise that Fundy put a bowl of water beneath the post the koala was clinging to. He then called around, asking if any of the other centres have a missing koala. It was a pretty normal day though, except for the koala.
Wilbur came back to George with the news that no, the koala isn't from other places, and it's seemingly just a wild one.
George shrugs. That isn't anything new. They do get wild animals a lot in their job. But. “What are we going to do?”
“I'll drive around, find a suitable tree for its new home, and place it there?”
“Fundy won't be happy.”
“No, he really won't.”
But sending the koala away is still the plan, and they're going to push through it.
After a second or two of consideration, Wilbur stands up to head out to do the deed. George stands up too to prepare their own animals' dinners; but Wilbur stops at the front door, and turns to look at George.
“Gogy?”
“Mm?”
“Wanna come with?”
“...you don't want Fundy to be mad with only you, is that it?”
“Noooooo.” Wilbur walks back, takes George's hand and spins him around so he can give him a back hug after. “I just want a date with my husband—”
George looks up at him as Wilbur sways them in their living room. “You're a liar.”
“I'm not.”
“Yes, you are.”
“But Gogy!” Wilbur whines.
George giggles in reply.
In the end, he goes with his husband anyway.
-
Just as predicted, when Fundy came home without the koala on the porch, he had been sad. Silently picking on his food and not asking either of his father for hugs. He really liked the koala.
“Sorry, Fundy,” George offered. “But wild animals should remain in their habitat.”
“I know,” is the sullen reply. “I just— it just… It looked so cuddly! I wasn't even able to hug it.”
“You can't just hug wild animals, little champion,” Wilbur cautions. “It doesn't matter how nice they look.”
Fundy doesn't reply with a word, he just nods his head.
When he wordlessly walked back to his room after his chores, George sighs.
“Don't worry George, I'm sure he'll get over it.”
-
Wilbur would have been right, George supposes. If the koala didn't come back the next day… and then the next… and then the next.
It's been a week, and the koala's once again back at their porch. Fundy's looking up at him with those big pleading eyes. An average child would probably ask for a new toy. Fundy, unfortunately, is his child—Wilbur's child, really, because he looks so much like him—and Wilbur is unfortunately one of his weaknesses. Which of course, means that Fundy is too.
“Fine.” He sighs. “It can stay.”
Fundy gives a jovial cheer, and Wilbur slips a hand around his waist.
It felt like such a happy scene, he couldn't have foreseen the tragedy that would befall soon.
-
There's no tragedy really, he's just being dramatic.
Or at least he tells himself that as he watches Wilbur lug the needy koala around.
The koala, dubbed Gogy by his husband—George really hates that Wilbur named it that but didn't say a word on account of George naming Wilby the Wallaby—had gotten really, really attached to Wilbur. (He also thinks Gogy the Koala doesn't sound as good, but to each their own.)
They now have a new eucalyptus tree in the yard, for the creature, so it wouldn't hang out as much on the pole on their porch. When Wilbur passes by its tree, it would go down as fast as possible and follow Wilbur around, wanting to be carried.
George thinks the koala is worse than when Fundy was a wee little toddler. The boy was clingy. This is worse.
The koala didn't seem to like Fundy that much, however, to the boy's dismay. Or at least it didn't like it when Fundy (or George) gets close to Wilbur. It starts wailing, and koalas might be one of the cutest things on earth but their sounds are also the most unsettling ones.
He decides not to tell Wilbur, however. It's just an animal, what were they to do? They tried keeping it away and it just kept coming back.
He looks down at the coffee cup in his hands. It's gone cold.
-
George isn't a jealous sort of person. He knows for sure he isn't. Swears it up and down. Wilbur is an affectionate person, and if he likes someone, he shows it outwardly. Touches here and there—George has seen it all. He's someone George categorizes as “too friendly.”
So this? This doesn't bother him at all.
But Fundy and he have been gloomily watching Wilbur carry the koala around for at least half an hour today.
“Papa,” Fundy whines, “Daddy still likes me right?”
George sighs, wrapping his arms tighter around his baby. “What, my hugs aren't enough for you? Is that it?” He asks teasingly instead, scratching Fundy lightly on the head and then tickling his neck.
Fundy bursts out with giggles. “Papa! Please!”
The tickles continue, and Fundy's laughter gets louder, catching the attention of Wilbur. George saw it out of the corner of his eye. Wilbur put the koala down and began to head towards them, but the koala followed and clung, and Wilbur had no choice but to pacify the animal.
George rolls his eyes at that and stops tickling Fundy, giving him a kiss on his cheek. “Let's go back inside and have some berries, Fundy.”
“Yay!” The child immediately scoots out of his reach and runs to their kitchen.
George gives Wilbur a look, before following his son.
