It's frustrating that Edward pretended that he's did this for Bella's safety when Carlisle could easily induce pregnancy early or perform a C-section to save both Bella and Renesmee. Edward went to medical school, he damn well knew these were options. And the Cullens have more than enough money to build their own NICU. If Edward bothered to consider those options then he would have realized this would allow Bella to stay human a little longer if he can help it. But no, because a child meant Bella becoming a permanent member of the family, and Edward couldn't risk Bella's imaginary "human potential" until he finally comes around in the end when he can hear Renesmee's thoughts and he realizes that he does want a family with Bella after all.
