âHey,â a familiar voice greeted from the doorway of your classroom as you stood on a step-ladder replacing your spring themed white-board borders with new, summer themed ones. Turning your head, you offered your coworker and fellow fifth grade teacher, John, a friendly smile and wave. âNeed help?â
âNo, Iâm good, but thank you,â you smiled again. âAll done with your room?â
âYeah, now Iâm just wandering around trying to make myself useful,â he smirked. âThought Iâd see if you needed company first since I hate everybody else.â
You chuckled, though it was a bit forced.
While you appreciated Johnâs friendliness, he had a tendency to flirt, and even worse, he seemed to be oblivious to your discomfort. Even before you started seeing Joel, you had no interest in the man. It wasnât that he was unattractive, by any standard he was more handsome than the average guy with his golden curls and sharp jawline resembling the likes of Matthew McConaughey. No, it was his personality and the fact that he was your coworker that turned you off. Where Joel was secure in himself, John had a tendency to be boastful and cocky. Where Joel was a family man, John was known around the teacherâs lounge as being a terminal bachelor. In short, John was friendly, but the root of his friendliness lay solely in him finding you attractive.
âIâm okay, but thank you,â you assured as you stepped down from your ladder. âAnd you really should start socializing with other people.â
âTheyâre not as easy on the eyes as you,â he drawled, leaning his body against the doorframe.
âJohn,â you rolled your eyes and huffed out a chuckle.
âOh, thatâs right. You and that dad are hookinâ up.â
You forced out a small, almost astonished laugh at his words.
âYes, Iâm seeing someone.â Your reply was short, hoping that heâd get the message and disappear.
âThatâs too bad. You know, I always sort of thought weâd get together,â he stepped closer to you as you sat down at your desk. âWeâd make a good looking couple, I think.â
âListen, John, I appreciate you stopping by butââ
âHey,â Joelâs voice surprised you as he knocked on the open door to your classroom, his eyes taking in the proximity of you and your coworker. âAm I interruptinâ anything?â
âNo,â you shook your head and stood up, walking over to him to give him a hug, desperately missing him in the three days since he went on his trip with Sarah. Whispering in his ear, you asked for his help. âThis guy is a creep and wonât leave me alone.â
âMm,â Joel hummed in acknowledgment as you stepped back, his eyes locked with Johnâs in some sort of silent challenge for him to speak first.
âWell,â you clapped your hands together and looked to John. âI think Iâm gonna call it a day.â
âRight,â he nodded, a cocky smirk on his face as he looked between you and Joel. âYou got a kid to step-parent now, I get it.â
âExcuse me?â Joel narrowed his eyes at the man, but your hand resting on his chest calmed him down.
âYâall have fun. Iâll see you Monday.â John gave you a wink as he passed the two of you, his shoulder brushing against Joelâs making his jaw tense.
Waiting a few beats before speaking again, you looked into Joelâs eyes and sighed.
âIâm sorry about him.â
âNo, Iâm sorry that you gotta deal with him everyday,â he placed his hands on your hips and hugged you against his front again. âI missed you.â
âI missed you,â you replied, sliding your hands up to cross around his neck. âWhen did you get back?â
âAn hour or so ago. Dropped Sarah off at the house and then came over to see what you were up to. Didnât know Iâd find Matthew McConaughey cominâ onto you.â
âI canât tell you how glad I was to see you,â you hugged his waist and rested your head on his chest.
âWhat are you doinâ tonight?â he mumbled into the top of your head as he pressed his lips there.
âJust some lesson planning and grading. Other than that, hopefully something that involves more time with you,â you replied.
âHow about a sleepover?â he lowered his lips to hover over the shell of your ear, his voice a husky whisper.
âI wouldnât mind a sleepover,â you lifted your head to smile up at him. âSarah gonna be around?â
âYeah,â he nodded. âThat alright?â
âMore than, I was hoping to check in on her.â Joel grinned from ear to ear at the concern you showed over his daughter.
âIâm sure sheâd like that,â he leaned in and pressed his lips to your cheek. âAlright, Iâm gonna go grocery shoppinâ and I gotta meet up with Tommy to give him his toolbelt, but you can head over to mine whenever.â
âOkay, should I knock? I donât want to scare Sarah.â
âSheâs probably asleep and hopefully locked the door this time, so just knock and sheâll let ya in.â
âAlright, donât take too long,â you pinched his chin and Joel caught your hand in his, pressing his lips to your knuckles.
âMake you wait? Never.â

After heading home to pack an overnight bag and put all your necessary work stuff into your tote bag, you headed over to Joelâs place. When you arrived, Sarah was in the neighborâs yard playing with a black and white border collie, the pair rolling around in the grass together while an older woman looked on. Stepping out of your car, you offered the woman a friendly wave and smile, earning Sarahâs attention.
âLong time no see,â Sarah greeted from the lawn, a goofy grin on her face as the dog tried to push her over. âMercy!â
âYou must be Joelâs new friend,â the woman greeted with a smile that felt more judgmental than welcoming.
âI am,â you nodded. âAnd you areâŚ?â
âMrs. Adler works,â she replied smugly. âI was just tellinâ Sarah about how important it is to walk in the light of God. Donât you agree?â
âUh,â you chuckled and looked at the road, hoping that if you wished hard enough, Joel would appear and save you from this interaction. âIâm not particularly religious.â
âAh,â she lifted her chin a bit, her eyes studying you from head to toe. âAnd Joel doesnât mind?â
âNot that heâs let on,â you laughed and looked to Sarah, tipping your head towards the front door of her home. âSarah, sweetie, you want to come inside? I have to get to work gradingââ
âGrading?â Mrs. Adler repeated as though youâd just confessed to working for the mob. âYouâre teachinâ our youth and youâre not âparticularly religiousâ?â
âYep,â you nodded and thanked the God this woman believed in that Sarah caught on to your discomfort and began to head inside. âWell, it was nice meeting you, Mrs. Adler.â
âMmhm,â she hummed, still eyeing you as you walked inside the house.
âJesus,â you sighed as the door clicked shut.
âYeah, theyâreâwhatâs that word on our last vocab test? Overzealous?â
âYes,â you laughed. âThe definition of.â
âI only go over there for Mercy, and because my dad uses me as a scapegoat so he doesnât have to talk to them himself.â
âI wish I could fault him.â Shrugging your bag off on the coffee table, you sat down on the sofa and began to unpack the hefty stack of homework you desperately needed to get into the grade book before school resumed on Monday.
âWhat do you want to watch?â Sarah asked as she plopped down beside you, kicking her feet up onto the coffee table just like her father liked to.
âYour pick,â you turned to her with a smile. âAs long as it doesnât end up sucking me in.â
âNo promises,â she smiled back.
After two episodes of Lizzie McGuire, you realized youâd stopped grading altogether in favor of watching these middle schoolers and their first-world problems. Shaking your head to refocus yourself, you turned back to the stack of papers in front of you, but the sound of Joelâs key turning the lock on the front door pulled your attention away once more.
âLook at you two,â he chuckled as he stepped into the house, setting his keys down in the bowl by the door. âSarah, you mind helpinâ with groceries?â
âLong as you bought the ice-cream I asked for.â Sarah stood up and walked outside while Joel came over to press a soft peck to your lips.
âIâll be right back,â he promised in a husky voice that had you nearly whining when he pulled away.
You took the chance to get at least a few more papers graded, hoping that somehow you could convince Joel to help out later on after dinner. Joel and Sarah filed in and out of the house carrying bags full of groceries, mostly frozen food and snacksâthe mark of a single dad whoâd never learned how to properly cook.
âLook at you go,â Joel huffed out as he plopped down beside you on the couch, winded from bringing in the groceries. Sarah stood in the kitchen sorting them out and putting them away, giving Joel the opportunity to plant another more heated kiss on your neck, mumbling against your skin. âYou get much done?â
âNo,â you chuckled, turning to face him. He was so close that your nose nearly bumped against his, but he didnât flinch. His eyes flickered to your lips once before he cracked a grin. âJudging by that look, I donât think Iâm gonna get much done later on, either.â
âI promise not to distract you.â His grin told a different story.
âYeah, right,â you scoffed playfully, turning back to your work. âI should make you help.â
âAs if Iâd know the right answers,â he grunted and stood up, pressing his lips to the top of your head before walking off into the kitchen. âShould we do take out tonight?â
âWhenâs the last time you two had a home cooked meal?â you called back while grading, exercising your skill of multitasking.
âWhen I go to Grandmaâs,â Sarah replied as she walked into the living room and resumed her spot on the other end of the couch, a half-eaten Pop-Hart in hand. âBut here? Uncle Tommy cooks sometimes.â
When Joel entered the room, he was holding the other half of the Pop-Tart.
âYou judginâ me for my lack of cooking skills?â he teased, leaning in the archway. You said nothing, simply raising your eyebrow at him and cracking a smirk. âI can cook.â You and Sarah shared a look of skepticism. âI can cook.â
âWhat, cereal?â Sarah quipped, earning a laugh from you. âYou burn water, dad.â
âI do not,â he defended, appalled by the lack of faith in him. âYou know what? Iâll show yâall. Iâm cookinâ tonight.â
Sarah stood up and walked over to the dining chair, pulling it to the center of the room so that she could stand on it.
âWhat the hell are you doinâ?â Joel asked.
âTesting the smoke detectors. I think weâll be needing them tonight.â

âBaby,â you sighed out a sympathetic laugh as you watched Joel defeatedly stare at the burnt chicken breasts heâd attempted to roast. Coming up behind him as he stood in front of the stove, you rubbed circles on his back, your nostrils itching from the smell of char. âItâsâŚnot too bad.â
He turned to give you a flat scowl. âI turned chicken to charcoal, baby. It is that bad.â
âDad, I know thereâs been a little bit of a delay in the food department but,â Sarah walked over and held her stomach. âIâm starving.â
âYeah, Iâm sorry, baby girl,â Joel sighed and carried the tray of burnt chicken over to the trash can, dumping it inside. âYou know what? Go put your shoes on. Weâre goinâ to McDonaldâs.â
âSweet!â Sarah beamed and ran off to go get ready.
âIâm sorry,â Joel turned to you, resting his hands on the small of your back as he hugged you close. You placed your hands on his chest and shook your head, looking up at him. âWas tryinâ to show off and impress you, and look what happened. I nearly burned the damn house down.â
âYou donât have to impress me,â you assured with a smile, amused and touched by the fact that this was all for you. âI only mentioned home cooked meals because I enjoy cooking. I wasnât trying to challenge you or anything, I was just trying to offer to cook for you two without overstepping.â
âBaby,â he cooed, giving you a loving frown. âYou are more than welcome to do whatever the hell you wanna do here. It would be nice to have a good home cooked meal every now and again, but I donât want you doinâ all the work. I wanna help and learn so that one day, I can surprise you with a romantic, unburnt dinner.â
âOkay,â you smirked and nodded. âAlthough, for you I wouldâve choked down that burnt chicken with a smile.â
âOh yeah?â He raised an eyebrow.
âMmhm.â You leaned in to give him a soft kiss. âYou may not have skills in the kitchen just yet, but everywhere elseâŚâ
âI donât know, I seemed to do a good job in your kitchen. Remember that?â You blushed and bit your lip.
âHow could I forget?â
âOkay, you two,â Sarah called out from the doorway. âMcDonaldâs, remember?â
Joel chuckled and led you out of the house.
âHow could I forget?â

âI wish I could have an endless supply of chicken nuggets,â Sarah sighed contentedly as she slugged inside the house behind you and Joel. âAnd Mcflurries.â
âAlright, Ronald McDonald Jr., go pick out a movie while I change,â Joel ordered as he started to walk upstairs, but was stopped by Sarahâs voice.
âActually, I think Iâm gonna tuck in early tonight. Jessie and her parents invited me to join them at the water park tomorrow.â Joel turned to Sarah with a chuckle and placed his hands on his hips.
âWere you gonna run that by me first or just go as you pleased?â Joel asked.
âCan I please go tomorrow?â She gave him a pair of puppy dog eyes that would melt even the coldest heart.
âI suppose,â he smiled and pulled her in for a hug, pressing a kiss to the top of her curls. âJust ask first next time.â
âOkay,â she nodded and hurried off upstairs with a burst of energy.
âThat girl,â Joel shook his head at you as you cozied up on the sofa with a throw blanket. He smiled at you from the stairwell and leaned against the wall. âWell donât you look cozy over there?â
âWould be cozier if I had you here with me,â you purred.
âSarahâs gonna be asleep soon,â he lifted an eyebrow at you. âYou know what that means.â
âThat I can get some help with this stack of homework I still have to grade?â
âHow about this,â he sauntered towards you and bent down to hover his lips over yours. âFor every paper I help grade, you gotta take somethinâ off for me. Sound like a deal?â
âAnd how do I get you naked?â you asked with a smirk, pressing a soft, barely there kiss onto his lips.
âOh, that wonât be an issue,â he grinned and kissed you deeper. âTake all this upstairs and Iâll grab us some wine.â
âYes, sir.â You gave him a salute before tucking your folder of work under your arm and jogging up the stairs with an excited grin on your face.
Making yourself comfortable, but not too comfortable, on Joelâs bed, you halved your stack of papers and placed one on his side of the bed while you got to work on your own stack. A few minutes passed by and you heard Sarahâs door click open, a mumbled âgoodnight, baby girlâ, and then her door shut. But instead of walking right in like you expected, there was another brief wait with a bit of shuffling. After a few seconds, the door clicked open and Joel stepped in wearing nothing but a smile, his large hand holding the stems of two empty wine glasses and the neck of a red wine bottle. Your jaw hit the bed as you gawked at him, both amused and confused by his state until you remembered what heâd said on the couch.
Oh, that wonât be an issue.
âJoel Miller,â you teasingly scolded as he walked over to your side of the bed and set the glasses down before pouring two hefty cups.
âWhat? Do I have somethinâ on my face?â he smirked, lifting your glass to hand it to you.
âPride,â you retorted with a breathy chuckle as you took a sip. âHow am I supposed to stay focused now?â
âHm, I donât know. I suppose youâll have to figure that out yourself, baby.â He leaned down to press his lips against yours, tantalizing and lingering, your lips moving to follow his as he slowly pulled away. Joel chuckled at the effects of the spell heâd already managed to cast on you with as little as his naked body and a sip of wine. âCome on,â he tapped the small stack of papers you had left. âTime to work.â
âI hateââ
Joel gave you a warning look, his brow lifted and a half-smile on.
âFine. I donât hate you. But youâre a cruel, cruel man, Joel Miller.â
âNothinâ cruel goinâ on. Iâm gonna give you what youâre wantinââŚas soon as you finish your work.â
Though you were working faster than you ever had, turning out pages every fifteen or so seconds, Joel seemed to be in a race of his own.
âDone,â heâd announce proudly, and youâd take something off. You started with your socks, then came your wrap-dress, then your bra, and finally, your red lace panties hit the floor by the bed. At that point, Joel had finished and you only had one paper left, but it seemed that one would have to wait until morning.
With your glasses finished and the warm buzz of intoxication flowing through your nerves, you threw your leg over his lap and straddled him.
âGod, I want you so bad,â you purred in between sloppy kisses to his lips, your hands cradling both sides of his face. Joel groaned into your mouth at the admission and gave your hips a squeeze, tugging your now soaked center to rest along the underside of his throbbing length.
âGrind on it, baby, I want you to soak me,â he ordered in a husk, his hands guiding your hips as you rocked back and forth along his length, your head tossing back and an animalistic sigh of relief slipping from your lips. Joel reached up and covered your mouth, bringing your eyes to his as he shook his head. âUh uh, gotta be quiet for me. Can you do that?â
âI can certainly try,â you smiled into a kiss, Joelâs smile against your lips warming you while his cock stirred you. You gasped into his mouth as his cock slipped and entered you by accident, Joel groaning at the unexpected heat of your walls around him.
âFuck,â he buried his face in your neck and eased you down his length until you were flush against his base, the two of you staying still like that for a moment. He lifted his head and looked into your eyes, his own lidded and glossy from pleasure and the wine. His thumb stroked across your cheek as he gave you a reverential study. âYou are everythinâ I ever wanted, do you know that?â
You shook your head and let out a soft sigh.
âWell, you do now,â he smiled. âIâm never lettinâ you go.â
âPlease donât,â you moaned softly and crashed your lips against his, your hips rocking against him to grind him deeper. Joel let out a choked whimper and leaned back against the pillows, pulling you down to his chest with him. One hand cradled your cheek while the other held the small of your back, guiding your hips as they rocked slow and deep.
âSo good,â he mumbled against the skin of your jaw as he left a love bite there. âSo fuckinâ good for me.â
âI want you to fuck me,â you moaned into his ear.
Joel flipped you over and pressed your thighs up to your chest, spreading you open for him as he sat back on his ankles. You hugged your thighs, allowing him the chance to use his hands in other ways. He licked the pad of his thumb and brought it down to your clit, running circles over it while his cock rocked deep, in and out, in and out, stroking against that spot inside you that made you go blind with pleasure.
âJesus, baby, you should see how fuckinâ good you look wrapped around me like this.â He was moaning now, maybe too much, the beds squeaking doing little to hide the activities at hand. âGod, youâre fuckinâ squeezinâ me so tight, baby. Itâs so fuckinâ good. So wet, so pretty.â
âJoel,â you moaned in a whisper, your eyes screwed shut and face scrunched as your orgasm threatened to come at any second. âBaby, I want you to cum with me. Cum inside me, I need to f-feel it, fuck.â
âIâm cumminâ, baby, Iâm cumminâ,â he whimpered and groaned, fucking you through his orgasm until yours hit only a thrust or two later. Joel undid the grip you had on your thighs and laid over your body, slipping his arms underneath the arch in your back to hug you tight to his heated and sweaty form. âGod damn.â
âI know,â you giggled and panted. âWe should have tipsy sex more often.â
âI wasnât tipsy,â he confessed. âThat was just how good you make me feel, baby.â
âMm,â you tilted his lips to slant against yours. âThat sounds like a challenge to me.â
