The Pevensies and their crowns

Peter: never really got used to actually wearing a crown. would forget it from time to time. it would often be brought to him after the chamber maid had gone in to tidy his room. when he would run his fingers through his hair, which was often, he would knock it or nearly knock it off his head. it constantly had to be fixed/polished after falling in the mud/on the stone floor/under his horses hoofs due to some kind of crazy antic.

Susan: only wore it when needed. she enjoyed wearing it, but never wanted to be treated differently. she treated her crown and the position it gave her with great respect. she donned it for political matters and the like. afterwards, she would request it be cleaned and placed back in her chambers until next time. 

Edmund: never seen without it unless he was in his chambers. felt both the great honor and great burden. Narnia may have forgiven his treason, but he never forgot. he would always try to be worthy of what his crown represented. he was always careful about it. he was grouchy if he ever forgot it and once, peter hid it as practical joke. edmund was so annoying, peter gave up quickly and vowed to never let his brother be without his crown. it just didn’t feel right without it on his head.

Lucy: always had her crown with her, but it wasn’t always on her head. she enjoyed wearing her crown, but she also enjoyed other kinds of crowns. you could often see her with flower crowns given to her by Narnians. or with intricate braid crowns woven with great care. sometimes she would find a way to style all three together. it could be a bit ridiculous, but she loved to show off the skills of her friends.

After Narnia:

Peter: never actually got used to not wearing a crown. it really made him confused. he would go to run his fingers through his hair, pause thinking he had his crown on, then remember he was in England. this internal conflict happened often. lucy thought he looked silly with his hand half raised in the air with a puzzled look, but when she asked and he replied ‘i just miss it is all’ with a sad look, she no longer found it funny. she started playing with his hair so he would have some familiar weight

Susan: every time she had an important event, she always wondered why she felt a little off until she noticed she would make some kind of intricate hairstyle that rested just slightly on top of her head. like peter, it saddened her when she realized what was wrong, but she would just straighten her shoulders, make her hair as queen-like as she could, and remember how it felt to wear her crown and rule her people.

Edmund: he had the worst time transitioning out of the four. he felt off balance and was very grouchy because of it. he was always trying on hats trying to find as many as he could that would match the weight of his crown. all of his siblings began to show their affection by rubbing his head in some way to appease him. 

Lucy: while she was sad to not have her beautiful crown anymore, she was so used to wearing other crowns that she just improvised. she rarely wore her hair down, it was always pulled back in some kind of braid or style that would pull just enough to mimic her crown. she was always making flower crowns like her dear Narnian friends used to make for each of her siblings. when each of their specific leaf kinds were available, her simple flower crowns would become much more detailed. her siblings always wore her crowns and they agreed amongst themselves that her crowns made them feel much better than their real crowns.
