Happy friday!!! For dadwc this week I bring you some Luca Trevelyan & Josephine vibes w/ "Introducing them to their guilty pleasures and the things they're ashamed/embarrassed about enjoying" (from the "vulnerability" prompt list)
Ooh this was so much fun to write! I haven't written about Josie and Luca's friendship before, but its so wholesome??? I love them your honour. @dadrunkwriting
For context, Luca is gay and grew up in a very homophobic household (well a homophobic father at least) so he's always tried to hide the more feminine parts of himself.
CW: minor mention of past homophobia
They were out on the balcony, Luca with his hands wrapped around a mug of steaming mulled mead, and Josephine’s around a brew of spiced tea. They had spent the whole day up there, debriefing from the events at Halamshiral. There was a lot to discuss after all, even if the empress remained on the throne. But it was late in the afternoon and their conversation had meandered away from business into a chat between friends. “So, I’m afraid I do have to ask this Josephine.” “Oh?” She said with a smile and a raised eyebrow, “should I be worried?” “About what Yvette said…” “Oh no… If this is about the doll collection, its just a childhood collection I have kept into adulthood. Really, it is hardly worth commenting.” Luca grinned and held up his hands to slow her speech, “I really don’t think its as embarrassing a hobby as you think it to be.” She side eyed him with a playful glare. “Say that to Dowager of Rivain at her summer ball…” “I have heard stories of her, she is rather a traditional character is she not?” “Well….” She hummed, searching for the right word, “some would call her traditional, but perhaps stern would be a better term. She is a fierce woman with a keen eye for politics. Any insults she levies are always part of some greater agenda.” “And that includes an aversion to dolls?” Colour rose in the woman’s cheeks and she shoved him playfully. “I told you, it is nothing but a childhood collection I have kept on.” Luca smiled, “I’m honestly not trying to make a joke on you, I am honestly curious. When I was a boy I always coveted my female cousins’ dolls. So my mother bought me one for my birthday one year. My father was…well not happy to say the least. Said it was ‘unbefitting of any man let alone his son’.” “Oh Luca…”
He waved her off, “sorry, I’m not fishing for pity or anything. Only to say that it was something I have never been able to indulge in through my life. So I would be interested in your collection, whether you still play with them or not.” Josie narrowed her eyes at him, and in a rare moment of visible deliberation from the ambassador, she bit lightly at her lip. But the suspicious deliberation morphed into a shy smile and she nodded. “I believe I could do that,” she blushed, “I have a few with me in Skyhold.” Luca’s face lit up, “I don’t suppose you could introduce me? All in the name of the very scholarly investigation I never got to do as a child.” She beamed back so bright she might as well have been the sun. “Well, I have one of my Aragonés pieces here which I think you would most enjoy! Aragonés is perhaps the finest doll artisan there is, and all of his pieces are uniquely designed and handcrafted!” “Wait, the artisan is male?” “Oh yes! He even has written a book about mostly about his life as a doll artisan, but it does include a lot about his personal life as well. Oh I must admit I teared up when I read about how he proposed to his husband. I should get you a copy, it is really most enlightening! And he has such an inspirational order.” Luca’s head spun. “His husband?” The dollmaker was like him? His heart fluttered, a butterfly first taking flight.` Josephine reached over to him, and squeezed his forearm, her hand warm from the mug of tea. “Yes, I will make sure one is included in our next library shipment up here. And, I will put a few hours in my schedule to show you the part of my collection here.” “A couple of hours? From the eternally busy ambassador?” “Well, it may have to be next week,” she groaned, “or the week after, but I will make sure it happens, Luca, don’t you fret.”

Neria bursts into laughter, falling into him, holding him as tight as he holds her. They've found their way home. And everything is going to be just fine.
Thank you so much @sunshinemage for the gorgeous art of Solas and Neria! I can't think of a more beautiful end to their tale ♥
for dadwc, some brosca & zevran (love love love these two in a platonic ship!!): being unable to believe that the support in the found family is really unconditional
happy writing!

Had fun with this one! They have very similar pasts but deal with that in such different ways.
Cor just going: you are being adopted, please do not resist.

Cw: cannon typical gore
“You feeling okay Zev?” Cor asked, gnawing at her lower lip and ignoring the iron tanged taste of somebody else’s blood. “I know that must have been a lot to happen all at once.” That was perhaps putting it mildly when nearly ten people lay dead at their feet. Talisien’s body was particularly bad, with a triangular chunk of flesh taken out from his neck that made his head loll to the side at a disturbing angle. Axes were a great weapon, but never pretty. “Yes. Fine,” he said, voice strained and staring out over Cor. “Because its okay if you’re not, you know and-,” he broke her off with a raised hand. “There is no need warden. You have helped me enough already. You have already gone above and beyond what I could ever repay back to you.” “Yeah but who is keeping score right?” She said with a smile, reaching out to place her hand on his arm. He looked down on her with a glance she was well familiar with. One she had seen often in the streets of Dusttown. It had been the look of sarcasm when a storekeep handed over medicine that everybody knew was for her mother. The roll of the eyes when she started a 4 on 1 bar fight over an insult to absent Rica. The shrug given at her glare to a suggestion she just throw her mother so the sisters wouldn’t have to cover her rent anymore. It was a glance given when somebody had the audacity to question the idea that your life would be better, easier, if you were only out for yourself. “I don’t keep score Zevran. That’s not how I work okay?” “Everybody’s only out for themselves in the end.” “Not me. Not for my family.” “I’m a little tall to be family don’t you think?” He said with a roll of the eyes. Cor shrugged and smiled, “oh I don’t know. Rica likes you, and I’m sure we could trick my mother to sign some of your chantry adoption papers to make it official. Plus, now Rica is queen I’m sure they have enough budget to get some high ceilings put in.” “You would make a fine jester you know Cor?” She scoffed, “I’m not sure anybody wants to see that. But I’m being serious Zevran. I’d do anything for my family, and you’re pretty much my little brother now I’ve decided. And no, you don’t get a choice in that matter. You can take or leave the last name though." She took a deep breath in, becoming more serious. "So if you do want to talk about it, its never a burden and I’d love to be there for you.” He looked down at her and smiled with a grin that could light up even the largest of caverns. “Perhaps when we get back to camp then.” She grinned back, “sounds good!” “Just make sure you wash off the blood first.” “By the ancestors, just how bad is it?” His only answer was a grimace, which was answer enough. "Well shit."
for best experience you should fullview the images to tab through and listen to alan doyle’s “take us home” while reading!
in any case–started this in august, i think? for, obviously, my favoritest book ever, The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard. my scanner was very unkind to me, so if you notice any inconsistencies in tone it’s because i had to go through and manually adjust all the levels /sigh. but i’m very happy overall with how it all turned out, especially kip on the tui-tanata :D
