Ok, hear me out on a Josephine x Trevelyan Persuasion AU. Like Josie and Trevelyan are in love, but Trevelyan's family disapprove of the match because of Josie's family status, the whole not being able to trade with Orlais part of her story. So Trevelyan turns down her proposal.
Except Josie manages to rebuild the family fortune, and Trevelyan still is deeply in love with her, but they can't re-propose as it'll make them seem like they're just after the fortune. So they PINE.
Idk if I prefer this as m/f or f/f. Because on one hand. Lesbians. On the other though, I think the gender reversal of the m/f would be really interesting (since in the book its the man who is poor and then makes his fortune).
I have way too many projects rn to think about doing this but...solavellan pride and prejudice AU
Its so perfect! And not just because Solas=Pride in elvish.
You have Solas aka Mr Darcy, wealthy landed gentry, he is generally a bit of an ass, up himself and socially reserved. In the book, Darcy falls in love with Lizzie early on, even though he considers it an attachment 'below his station'. He proposes to her, never concieving of the fact that she will turn him down, because he's hella rich and above her station. Lizzie takes him to town on it and then Darcy goes away, thinks about his life choices and becomes a better person. This reminding anybody of Solas' regard for the Dalish...? His arc of seeing the people of thedas as real people?
Then you have Lavellan aka Lizzie, she is slighted by Solas early on and this colours her entire perspective of him, and leads her to believe things about him that she probably should have had some more critical thinking about. He proposes she turns him down while roasting him. However, in doing so she learns that he isn't quite as bad as stories have made him out to be. In the book this is the fact that Mr Wickham, who has been telling Lizzie bad things about him, is actually a bad guy and tried to elope with Darcy's 15 year old sister. (I could see this paralleling with the vallaslin removal or the reveal of the actual history of fen harel).
But in the book, the point where Lizzie actually falls in love with Darcy is when she visits his home, the grand estate of Pemberly (maybe Skyhold in an au?). Here Darcy is a kind and generous man, he uses sustainable farming practices, he is kind to his tenants and servants, generous to guests he has only just met, and he adores his lil sister. This also seems a good solavellan parallel because despite being a very prideful person, Solas is a very kind person- he likes helping people! Its so easy to get approval with him- just ask questions!
Idk where I'm going with this, I just think its neat! Also...who would be the Jane/Bingly equivalents in the AU?? Jane, perfect ray of sunshine, and Bingly with his massive golden retriever energy?? Or my fave girl and aro icon Charlotte Lucas...?
Wait...would Cole be the equivalent of Georgiana Darcy???

I don't know where I go
Probably a controversial take but why tf do people keep calling Vivienne a noble. She's not.
She's Bastien's *mistress* not his wife.
She's a Circle mage. There is a ban on mages holding political power and what power she has she gained through hard work and cunning.
Her parents were Rivaini commoners and she was born poor in Wycome in the Free Marches.
Originally the position of court mage was little more than a court jester. Vivienne turned it into one of respect. She survived multiple assassination attempts and half of those bards she sent back frozen solid and the other half she *recruited.*
Officially her only titles are First Enchanter and (conditionally) Grand Enchanter or Divine. Madame de Fer is implied to be originally an insult that Vivienne claimed and turned into a mark of respect.
one of the most challenging skills i've had to learn as an adult is the art of figuring out whether i'm proportionally annoyed with someone or just tired and overstimulated and looking for reasons to be pissed off
