Thinking about in S1 when Merlin asks Gwen if she would kill Uther and she’s like “I wouldn’t miss him if he died but killing him would make me no better :(” because like. While I don’t personally agree that killing genocidal tyrants is a Bad Thing, the fact is that Merlin wasn’t the one who was going to kill him in that scenario! If killing a murderer makes you no better, then the morally correct action (by Gwen’s own standards) would have been to do nothing, rather than go out and kill the guys who were going to kill Uther! Just stay home!! Esp. since the whole “it would set Arthur against magic” thing wasn’t really in play here; they were literally just gonna stab him. It would have been so easy (and satisfying) to let Uther get stabbed. Take a nap or something kid idk
