As a gay man, I grew up with nothing but heteronormative people. Therefore, I started feeling like an outcast for being gay. I felt like the black sheep. Thankfully my family was and is very supportive, and I didn't feel bad for being gay, but I had this "lost" feeling. Expositing children to LGBTQ+ subjects is not gonna contaminate them bro, it's gonna desensitize them to respect people no matter what gender or sexuality they are.
