Not promised a tomorrow- B.B.
a/n-thought i’d do something sad; imma start adding a small summary if i don’t forget lol
Summary: You and Bucky go on a mission together;nothing unusual; but you have a bad feeling about how it’ll all go.
Warnings n stuff- sad af, strong mentions of blood & injuries, guns(?), idk what else
“Remind me why Steve got us a thousand piece puzzle in the first place....especially one that is a picture of a uh- a lake??” Nat asks you and Wanda as you guys look for different pieces of the shitty puzzle. “Uh....something about ‘working on teamwork’ as he said.” You roll your eyes at the thought of Steve’s stupid quote from the brief meeting earlier in the morning. “Yeah, don’t remind me please.” Wanda chuckles out as she attaches one of the small pieces onto the puzzle. “I’d rather be hanging out with Parker than doing this shit.” “Hey, i’m over here!” Peter yells at you from where him and some of the other guys are putting together another puzzle. “Sorry, forget i even said that.” You wave at Peter and then give him a smile, before turning back to the puzzle on the table, laughing a bit. “You guys want to grab some lunch or something before we get any further on this thing?” Nat asks you both as she lets out a slow sigh. “Duh, let’s go!” You answer almost immediately and then hop up from your chair, nearly knocking it over, glad to get a break from the stupid puzzle.
“Hey, don’t forget....tomorrow.” Nat winks as you begin walking out of the room from where you guys just finished the puzzle. “Yeah yeah, i know.” You roll your eyes, trying to hide the small smile appearing on your face as you’re now completely walking out of the room and into the hallway. You and Bucky have a mission, for the first time in around three weeks together, tomorrow. You would be lying if you said you didn’t like him, even though he’s a bit rough around the edges, you’d do anything to help him sort all of his problems out. Deep down he’s a sweet man, and you know this. You’ve experienced that side of him that only a few have yet to. He’s pretty comfortable with you, and if anyone were to ask him who he’d rather bring on a mission with him, it would be you; aside from Steve of course. You two work really well together, and have ever since you got here. You won’t lie, you were a bit intimidated by him at first but you slowly loosened up around him and he did the same with you. You two kind of just have natural born chemistry and he’s never felt something so real, at least not since before the whole.....ya know; HYDRA stuff.
He opened up about that to you as well, seeing that when you first joined the team you didn’t know too much about him or his past. Your heart sank the more he told you of his hardships and you couldn’t help but to immediately want to jump head first into some type of friendship with him. And he gladly let that happen.
As you walk back up to your room, seeing it’s around 5pm and it took you, Wanda, and Nat almost the whole day to do Steve’s stupid puzzle, you just want to shower and take the rest of the day to mentally prepare for the mission tomorrow. You have to leave at around 7am, nothing out of the ordinary, but you hate mornings. You’re such a night owl it’s insane, but Steve needs you and Bucky on this particular mission.
You finally make it to your room and open the door. Locking it shut behind you, you then head over to your bedroom so you can gather some clothes and make it into your bathroom.
You quickly gather your comfy clothes, then walk over to your bathroom. Rather quickly, you strip of your clothes from the day and start the water for the shower. A loud sigh escapes your lips as you stand facing away from the mirror and zone out onto the tiled floor beneath you. You’re a bit anxious about tomorrow, you’re not sure why. Maybe it’s Steve’s overwhelming talk about the whole thing, or maybe it’s just your shitty anxiety trying to poke you into backing out, but you know you won’t either way.
Once the water is warm enough, you step in. You let the water wash away the anxiety that flowed through you before you had stepped in, and you quietly hum a song that’s been stuck in your head for a couple of days. You wash your body and your hair, and as you do so, you think about what Bucky might be doing. You’ve only seen him twice today and that wasn’t while you were sitting at a table for hours doing a stupid puzzle. You think ‘maybe i should see what’s up after my shower’.
You soon enough, after around twenty minutes, hop out and dry off with a clean, soft, red towel. You do your normal things and then slip your big t-shirt on with some black shorts(and underwear), then some socks. You hang up your towel to let it dry and toss your dirty clothes into your hamper, then walk out and turn off the light.
As you walk down the hallway, making your way to Bucky’s room, your eyes wander the sleek walls of the hall. Bucky’s room isn’t all that far from your room, so it only takes you around thirty seconds or so to arrive at his door. You knock on his door and patiently wait for him to answer, if he’s even in there. Suddenly the door pops open and you’re met with a damp haired Bucky. “Hey, just wanted to check in. Haven’t seen you much today.” Your lips curve into a smile, one that warms Bucky up as always, and he then answers you. “Yeah, uh....been busy. Saw you guys working on that puzzle Steve got.” Bucky moves over to let you in as he holds back a laugh he so badly wants to let out. “Yeah, it was sooo fuuun!” You reply sarcastically after you step into his room. You take a quick glance around. It’s not your first time being in his room of course, but it’s a habit you’ve yet to break where you glance around a room before making yourself a bit more comfortable. “Im sure it wasn’t that bad.” You hear him shut his door and you turn around with your mouth dropped agape. “It was! It sucked so much, i didn’t think Steve could get anymore boring.” You admit as you plop onto the small couch within the room. Bucky soon joins you, sitting fairly close to you.
You two go on to talk a little bit, wasting away some time before you need to get going back to your room. The tv’s on and Bucky’s arm is sprawled out behind you on the couch as you’re sitting there, legs criss-crossed. Apparently he can sense some of your nerves, but who wouldn’t considering the important mission tomorrow hasn’t really left your mind. “You nervous about tomorrow, doll?” His hand is then placed on your shoulder in a comforting manner. You relax into his touch, knowing that you can’t lie to him because he knows you too well, so you nod your head. “Yeah, just a bit.” Your words come out in a mumble but he can surely hear you. “Why?” “I don’t know, i wish i could see the future but I can’t.” You chuckle lightly as Bucky gently rubs your shoulder with his thumb. “Well.....you have a good gut instinct huh?” Bucky knows how many times you’ve felt extreme nerves, and then something happens as you suspected. “Yeah, but you know i hate being right Buck.” “I don’t think anyone wants to be right about these types of things, y/n.” He sighs out and the room falls into a pit of silence, and room is fairly dark considering the only light being illuminated is from the tv screen.
Bucky’s hand is still on your shoulder, and the nerves still haven’t left. “I want to uh....tell you that if anything happens tomorrow, just know you’re one of my favorites.” You let out a slight laugh at his way of trying to comfort you, but then he gets a bit more serious. “No, but in all seriousness....i mean it. You’ve helped me a lot, and i appreciate it.” You don’t often get much of this type of talk from Bucky, but when you do you appreciate every second of it. “I know Buck. Same for you.” You lean into his body, and his arm lightly squeezes you into his side, just enjoying the moment.
“You’re sure about this?” You ask Steve through your ear piece. “I’m in charge, right?” You roll your eyes and glance over at Bucky who’s leaning on the opposite wall in front of you. His face has a smirk plastered on it, and you know he already heard Steve through his ear piece. You quickly finish speaking with Steve, and then begin making your way to the center of the building you and Bucky are in. Bucky of course is taking the lead, while you’re following at a couple of feet behind him.
“Remember, the room we’re heading into is going to be heavily trapped so you need to watch your step.” Bucky whispers right after you both round a corner. “Yeah, i remember Steve’s words very vividly.” You reply to Bucky as the both of you concentrate on who or what obstacles could be in front of you two.
Once you both finally make it to the center room, you begin hacking into the door. Bucky keeps watch as you work, and once you manage to open the door without setting off any alarms to alert the people within the building, you give Bucky the signal that you’re going in. You then quickly tell Steve and the others by ear piece that you’re heading in. “Be careful, don’t do anything stupid.” You huff out a small chuckle at Steve’s words before stepping into the tall ceiling room. Red lasers criss-crossing over each other in an attempt to keep any and all people out of the room. “You sure there’s not a way to turn these things off?” You ask into your ear piece as you quickly glance around the room to look for some type of box to maybe shut off the traps. “Nope, it’s in the security room. That would be a very difficult place to get to considering it’s at the front of the building and is heavily guarded.” Steve replies and you focus back on how to get to the center of the room without setting any alarms or traps off.
You’re very skilled when it comes to these types of things. You’ve broken into some of the most heavily armed and trapped places in the world without getting caught. You’ve disarmed and hacked into many systems(even government ones), you’ve even disabled explosives. This isn’t anything new to you, but with the nerves and gut feeling you’ve been having since yesterday, you’d rather not take any chances. But here you are, about to take a leap of faith.
You carefully step over the first few lasers making sure your head or even a hair on your head, doesn’t touch the ones above you. Your arms outstretch in front of you, avoiding the lasers that are on both sides of you. Your breath is shaky and all you are trying to focus on is getting to the middle of the room where the stolen data is. The room is quiet, and so is everyone on the ear piece because they know you need all the concentration you can get. The only voice you’re even remotely expecting to hear at any moment is Bucky’s considering he’s the one keeping an eye out.
You maneuver your body a bit to the left, finally able to bring your other foot over the few lasers your right foot had crossed previously. You study the next lasers for a few seconds before crouching down and sticking your left foot through the hole where the lasers don’t intersect. Your head is next to go through along with one of your arms. You’re careful to not let your shoulder touch any of the lasers, nor your hair, and then you bring your whole body into a standing position. You’re instantly met face-to-face with several lasers. You steady your breathing and immediately feel eyes on you. You know it’s Bucky, so you shake off the feeling and keep moving. Your next move is to shuffle a bit to the left, making sure your back side nor your front side touch any of the inclosing traps. You then see a pretty good opening where you can flip into the section of no lasers, so you take the opportunity...but very carefully.
Once you’re over onto the other side of those lasers, you only have a short distance to go before you’re in the middle. Then you can retrieve the stolen data. You squeeze past a couple of more lasers then finally crawl under a couple of more....then you’re at the computer. “Okay, i’m at the computer.” You speak into your ear piece. “Good, hack into the system and grab what’s ours, then get out.” You quickly get to work on the computer, knowing that it shouldn’t even take you that long to hack into their shitty system, but before you’re half way done, Bucky snaps you out of your concentration. “People coming down the hall.” He mumbles but you hear him. You curse under your breath, knowing you won’t have enough time to even finish up, but before you can say anything, Bucky is forcing the door shut as quietly as possible to hopefully buy you some more time.
“Focus on that. I’ve got you.” Bucky states as he stands leaning against the wall near the door. You quickly begin back to work on the computer in front of you. A few seconds pass by and you hear the people walking by the door, talking. They’re talking about unimportant things but it sounds as if they’re just walking right on by.
Around thirty seconds later, you’ve hacked into their system and retrieved the data you guys came for. “Okay, it’s done.” “Get out of there, quickly. You know the drill.” Steve replies to you and you nod knowing he can’t even see you. You look over at Bucky, but before you can move to try and get past the traps again, alarms go off. “What the fuck?” You mumble and Bucky looks at you. The both of you share a second of confusion before he’s opening the door back and you’re walking through the lasers. Clearly there’s no reason to even worry about not tripping them because the alarms are already blaring. “This way.” Bucky says as you both run out of the door. You have your gun drawn in your hand, so does he as you round corners waiting for guards of some sort to come rushing towards you. You’re not even sure who or what set off the alarms but you’re almost positive it wasn’t you two.
As you two make it back the way you came, you come across a few guards here and there, but manage to fight without using a gun to further draw others attention. You and Bucky run for the stairs so you can get to the top of the building, which is how you came in, so you can get back onto the ground and make it to his motorcycle that’s parked a bit aways.
You keep glancing behind you, making sure no one is going to come up from behind you guys. Thankfully no one does, and you both make it to the door to the stairway....only to see that it’s locked. “This way!” You both hear a man yell so you look at Bucky. He then kicks the door open and you both bolt up the stairs, weapons in hand. You have around seven flights of stairs to round before you make it to the top, but that’s way less than your last mission had.
You keep hearing voices yelling, and you know they know you guys are here. You probably weren’t the people that they were looking for, but now you most definitely are. “Come on, just a little bit further.” Bucky says as you round the last flight of stairs. You hear heavy footsteps down below you guys, but you’re almost positive you’re a good ways ahead of them.
Bucky pops open the door that leads to the rooftop, and you run through it. You’re quick to see a metal pole laying nearby, so you pick it up and toss it over to him. He sticks it through the handle and you both run to the edge of the roof. “A little higher then i remembered.” You joke and Bucky shakes his head. He knows humor is one of your only ways of shaking off nerves, so he doesn’t quiet you. Plus, he likes to hear your jokes....even if they’re a bit shitty.
You guys hear the door that you came from beginning to shake and be pushed open. “Come on, need to get out of here before they see us.” He says as he grabs your arm. You both place your weapons away, just long enough to jump down to the ground. Once you both make the jump, you run for the fence that’s gating the area. Bucky lifts the metal up wear you both broke in earlier, and he lets you out, then he follows directly behind you. He doesn’t worry about closing the metal fencing back, you too just make a run for it towards his motorcycle that’s parked within the woods.
As you’re running, you hear people following behind you both. You know they’re not close, that it’s just your super hearing, but they’re close enough to make you both run even faster. You’re just trying to get out of here, alive and with the data, fighting as little as possible. A bit before you’re about to arrive to his bike, the guards start shooting. Dodging bullets to the best of your ability, you also start shooting behind you while jogging backwards. Bucky does the same thing, clearly not going to let you do what you’re doing alone. You guys end up knocking down quite a few of the guys, but there’s more than you anticipated. “Get on the bike! Now!” Bucky yells and you nod.
You both bolt for his bike but before you can even get on, you feel three bullets enter your body. One in the back of your right thigh, one in the back of your right shoulder, and then one through your back and you can feel the bullet exit through your chest near your heart. You immediately fall to the ground, and Bucky can’t help but to feel immediate panic flow through him. All he can see is your nearly lifeless body on the ground in front of him and to him, it feels as if time is standing still. He sees the rush of guards coming at him, and he knows the only thing he’s now worried about is getting you back to the tower. He knows that you’re not invincible, he knows you aren’t like him and can’t heal within a weeks time, he knows you could potentially die.
Bucky doesn’t think twice before he runs over to your body and picks you up. He tries to be careful but he knows there’s no being careful about this situation. He swings his leg over to the other side of his bike, and cradles your bleeding body against him with his left arm. He then speeds off, leaving the guards behind only worried about getting you to safety.
He swerves through traffic, speeding pass cars the best that he can. Steve is loud in Bucky’s ear piece, and you can’t hear a fucking thing seeing as you’ve already passed out from the loss of blood. Bucky is on the verge of crying but he’s trying to maintain his focus on driving, seeing as he’s only got a little ways left to go. He’s holding on by a thread, because he can’t lose you, he just can’t. Bucky bites his lower lip, wondering if he should even speak to you, considering Steve can hear him, but he doesn’t care. “Y/n.....please be okay, doll. Please....i can’t lose you.”
Once he gets to the tower, he rushes in. Steve and Tony immediately meeting him, while you’re in his blood covered arms. He’s never hated seeing blood so much in his life. He fucking hates this. He can’t stand it. He soon rushes up the stairs with you in his arms, running up them by twos, trying to get to the floor he needs to be on as fast as possible. Steve and Tony right behind him. No ones ever seen Bucky so frantic, his face holds so much emotion unlike any other day. The man has felt more pain in his entire life than someone could ever imagine, everyone knows he doesn’t need to lose you.
He finally gets you to where you need to be, but once he’s told to leave, he doesn’t want to. You have people ushering him out, trying to not make a scene as people try as fast as possible to get to work on you, and finally he caves in. He turns around and walks out, tears streaming down his face. He knows this can’t be good, he just knows it. The bullet that went through your chest was too close for comfort, and he hates to even think about the fact that you knew something was going to happen today.
Bucky manages to make it a bit down the hallway before he leans against the wall, then he slides down onto the floor. His shirt, hands, arms, pants, even his face now that he’s trying to wipe his tears away is covered in blood. Your blood. He can’t stand it. It’s making him sick, because he knows you’re hurting. He knows that you’re in pain, he knows he could possibly lose you within this very moment and he fucking hates it. All he can do is sit on the cool floor outside of the medical room you’re in, hoping you’ll pull through for him.
A couple of hours go by and Bucky still sits in the same place. Dried tears cover his cheeks, and the palms of his hands are pressed against his forehead. He hears the door open suddenly and he can hear footsteps approaching him, but he doesn’t dare to look up. “Buck?” Steve calls his best friend from a couple of feet away. Bucky then looks up and sees Steve with a melancholy look on his face. “Uh....she didn’t make it.” Steve looks down as he breaks the horrible news to his best friend. Steve isn’t even sure if he’s seen Bucky so torn in such a long time. He knows how much Y/n meant to Bucky, he could tell by the way he looked at her, yet he never got to really tell her. “You can go in and say goodbye, i know it won’t be the same but....it’s something.” Steve speaks again after not getting a reply from Bucky either times. Bucky finally stands up, not even wanting to see your lifeless body lay before him, but he knows that if he doesn’t do this now, he won’t ever get the chance to.
Steve let’s Bucky walk into the room and as soon as he does, he sees your paler than normal skin complexion, blood all on the table they were working on, your torn blood stained clothes in the corner. It’s something he never dreamt of seeing, never wanted to see, but now he will be seeing it everyday. Whether it be through nightmares, or through zoned out visions. He won’t be able to get pass this. Bucky slowly walks over to the table your body lays on, some part of him hoping you’ll pop up and scare him. Saying it was all just a sick joke, but he knows it’s not going to happen.
He gently runs his hand over your arm and he can feel tears prick at his eyes again. He trails his hand down to your hand and he takes it into his. “Part of this feels like it’s my fault, but if you were here you’d tell me it’s not.” Bucky chuckles a bit at the thought of you being so reassuring to him every time something goes wrong. “I should’ve moved a bit quicker, drove a bit faster, i- I could’ve done something. Maybe even shielded you somehow, goddamn it.” He bites his lower lip in an attempt to hold back a sob that is daring to leave his lips. “I just-....i wish i could tell you how much you really mean to me. I’m sorry i never got to do that, and i love you....so much.” Bucky’s voice trembles and he feels as if he’s going to collapse on the floor right next to the table where your lifeless body lays, but he stays strong; even though there’s no reason for him to remain strong through this. He just lost someone close to him, someone he loves. You were aware how much he’s been through. You tried to hold on, but the pain took over you and you just couldn’t bare it anymore....you had to let go.

Ok but bestie since I do not right myself I like giving others ideas and especially when it’s about vinnie hacker.. so I’ve been obsessed with angst lately or just really good books/chapters and I feel like a good plot would be for y/n to be fat and ugly so vinnie is disgusted of her before but then 2-6 years later she becomes hot asf and skinny big ass big juicy tits and she asks his friends who she is... AND THEN BASICALLY PICK UP FROM THERE
UMMMM ok I'm kinda laughing but not at how you worded this lol but I understand exactly what you mean aaaaaamd i actually really like that idea 💡 so be on the look out bb 🙇🏻♀️
I just want you all to know
IM THE FUNNIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD that’s all lol

Love you bitch 🥺
i’m taking some type of break for a bit, not sure how long for, but in the mean time......
if you don’t like the person or people i choose to write for, feel free to unfollow me, especially if you can’t respect that i don’t write for vinnie any longer. i understand that not everyone will like who i choose to write for, & that’s fine, i don’t expect everyone to. but stop leaving anons that are rude & uncalled for, it’s out right ridiculous imo. i’ve said countless times that i don’t have anything to do with vinnie anymore, & i would love for that to be known.
with that being said, this’ll be my last post for a bit.
