To Everyone Who Writes Ryuk As Not Giving A Damn About Nobody Nowhere I See Ryuk As A Very Sentimental
To everyone who writes Ryuk as not giving a damn about nobody nowhere… I see Ryuk as a very sentimental character in canon but only about one (1) person. Ryuk enjoyed talking with Light so very much that to go without their conversation was grounds to bitch at length. He regularly followed his commands when he didn’t have to do so, bent the rules as much as he seemingly could for Light, moving the notes around at the man’s wish, responding to unconventional wording for contracts and undoing contracts as if its good enough to give up on the Death Note, never reveals the man to anyone else even when it would be interesting to do so, is respectful towards his father, and in the scene he has to talk to Mikami he can’t WAIT to get back to Light, he looks like he’s going to bust a gut with joy whenever Light addresses him positively, I don’t know what else to say guys… because Ryuk cares about three things in canon 1) this rare enjoyment of his dreary eternity 2) because of *written in flashing neon lights* Light Yagami 3) coming at him with those fukkin apples
that’s my Ryght absolutely has subtext in canon (at the very mildest some one-sided pining) ted talk thanks for coming

light yagami as a sometimes sorta cute slightly fucked up little dork who is detached from other people but wants to (and thinks he can) fix the world anyway AND is also cold and manipulative as an extension of these traits is a more interesting interpretation of his character than seeing him as an edgy sigma male who does not care about anything archetype

Maybe it's the sudden evil vibes coming from you idk
Monster characters explained by me:

i feel like we are too hard on light yagami sometimes. imagine learning that you have absolute power over death itself and also the universe is cosmically uncaring and knowing for sure that there is literally nothing beyond the veil of death. you are being haunted by a perpetual ghost that will kill you if you don't do something interesting with that power. there is no higher power than you and the pen in your hand. and also you are in high school.
Okay so I’m trying to figure out just how much the Death Note corrupts a person, because there is literal canonical evidence that Light is much different to how he is when he has the Death Note. During the Yotsuba arc, Light straight up contradicts the beliefs he has as Kira. He says that he would never manipulate a woman bc that’s against his moral code, but Kira!Light literally manipulates women for fun. Not to mention the fact that Light fully claims that he disagrees with Kira and while we can assume he’s lying for obvious reasons, he still technically doesn’t have much of a reason to lie because from his perspective he has no idea who Kira is and he thinks he’s innocent, so we can also assume that actually— he genuinely doesn’t agree with Kira.
And this post isn’t a “Light was good all along he was just corrupted by the death note” post I’m just saying, it’s safe to assume that Light pre-death note was definitely nowhere near as evil and morally fucked as Light post-death note, and it is likely the death note itself had a part to play in it, because I’m pretty sure canonically the death note “possesses” the user.
but anyway, that’s not the point of this post. The point of this post is— let me put this version of Death Note to you:
L touches the Death Note, and when he does it like... actually corrupts him. Because let’s be real, L has never been 100% good we all know he’s just as bad as Light is and all he really cares about is winning rather than actually what’s morally right. So if he’s corrupted by the Death Note and actually decides to join Kira, just imagine a scene after the Yotsuba arc where he’s like “Light I know you’re Kira and I want to join you” and he eventually convinces Light that he’s actually serious about this and it isn’t just trapping him and just...
I’m sorry but L and Light both being Kira, an absolutely unstoppable force, enemies to lovers but more like forced lovers due to corruption, they’re literally the worst people you’ve ever met and they can never be caught because L’s on his side now. But obviously L can’t just stop the investigation so he has to trick the task force that he’s still hunting Kira, but he can use this to just straight up kill them all from the inside without anyone suspecting him.
And low-key to keep the same ending where Kira loses, L could like... fake his own death in a way and Near still takes over the investigation and his smart, smug ass still manages to figure out Light, but either he doesn’t figure out L and it’s one hell of a plot twist (and Light’s manic laugh at the end is because he still has won and L just reveals himself to Near’s absolute horror) or he also figures out L and the complete betrayal everyone feels and like...
Honestly this AU is mainly just bc sometimes instead of the hero and anti-hero ship trope I think the gays should just get to be evil together and kill anyone who annoys them both <3
