Draco x fem!reader arranged marriage

Summary: Draco and Y/N are in a servile marriage, Y/N tries to make the marriage work but Draco is still in love with his previous lover.

Warnings: Angst, cussing, jealousy

A/n: this is my first time writing a request therefore I apologize if it is not the idea you were going for, but I hope you like it!

I decided to write this in past tense as past tense is more angsty.

The evening their parents declared the betrothal was a brutal evening for both Draco and Y/N. Their whole future had been taken away and planned by their parents. Not only were Draco and Y/N barely comrades, but they were in love with different people- well Draco was. They had tried talking it out with their parents, but their efforts were to no avail. Both of their parents’ final words were “We have made our choice and that is final. You are to be married by November first or Sooner.”. To which Draco responded with a glare and a harsh nudge with his shoulder against Y/N’s as he left the room.

Both the wedding and the bride were beautiful. Y/N wore an astounding white dress that fit her frame perfectly. Her hair was neatly done by a professional and her face had professional makeup done too, a light shade to accentuate her naturally beautiful features. Draco, as usual, looked divine in his black tuxedo with his white-blonde, almost silver hair neatly slicked into place.

As Y/N walked down the isle with her beautiful dress dragging on the floor Draco’s eyes were sharp and cold, an interesting contrast to her her warm, gentle gaze. When the pair had to kiss Draco simply refused. Despite the agonising hurt and embarrassment Y/N felt she put on a brave face for the sake of her dignity and maiden name. The evening was perfect, except for the newly weds that didn’t love each other a stitch. Many arguments broke out within the first few nights, regarding the fact that they were forced to share a bedroom. But as time went on they slowly grew used to it- and Y/N started longing for Draco’s company. So she did what any partner is supposed to do; she tried to make the marriage work...

Y/N Y/L/N was a pretty girl, she had a perfectly sculpted face and a body every girl dreamed of having, yet Draco treated her as if she were dirt beneath his shoe. If she’d cook him a meal, he’d eat it with a sour look on his face and leave her with the dishes to clean. When she did his washing for him he’d complain about a shirt with a single crease that was most likely caused by him. If she’d greet him after work he’d wave her off with a harsh comment tossed in her direction. However, Y/N was determined to make their marriage work. So when night time came, she’d shift closer every night when Draco was asleep. Until this very particular night, just as he was falling asleep Y/N  shifted against him and wrapped an arm around his waist muttering a sweet “goodnight”. And that was the final straw for Draco. He hadn’t been asleep the other nights when she shifted closer, he just bit down on his tongue to hold himself back from snapping. But that was the final straw.

”What the bloody hell do you think you’re doing?! Get off of me!” Draco dramatically snapped shoving her arm off of him and sitting upright. Y/N sat upright as well, suddenly no longer tired. “I’m sorry, it’s cold outside so I-” Y/N  started but was rudely interrupted by her husband “Brilliant observation, Y/N.”. Y/N would never admit it but hearing her name leave his lips made her heart flutter, even if it was venomous and filled with hatred. “Draco I’m your wife, please treat me with some respect.” Y/N meekly requested. “Don’t you get it?! I’m still seeing her! You have never been able to be as good as her and will never hold the place that she holds in my life! You’re pathetic, annoying, useless, hideous, every horrid thing I can think of is what you are! You’re just a subordinate in my life and nothing more!” Draco spat at his wife. Just as the words left his lips and the room fell silent Draco realised what he said. His previously raised brows dropped as well as his scowl. The window left open by Y/N for ventilation in the room made the wind thrust her hair around, her brows were furrowed together tightly, mouth slightly parted from disgust and hurt, eyes showing all the hurt and more he’d put her through their entire marriage.

Draco could see all the times he shoved her out of his way, all the times he’d insulted her body, all the times he’d made a rude remark over something she did, all the times he told her her love for him would never be reciprocated, all the times he told her he wish she’d just get lost, all the times he told her she wasn’t up to his standards and therefore wasn’t allowed to accompany him to a work event, all the times he’d told her to bugger off when she asked something, all the times he told her he’d have to be Imperiused (under the imperius curse) to even for a moment consider her as something more than an object. Every single hurtful thing he’s said or done to her practically flashed before his eyes. 

The fact that he admitted to still seeing his ex hurt more than anything. Not necessarily in a sexual way, even just going out to lunch with her, or smiling at her. 

“If this stupid marriage wasn’t servile I would’ve divorced you the night of our wedding. Or not even have said yes.” Y/N spat back, trying to inflict as much hurt on Draco as he had inflicted on her. And it worked. Only a simple statement such as that hurt Draco more than he could ever put together, and it wasn’t nearly as grating as his words to her. Draco was snapped out of his shocked and hurt state when a pillow and the bed’s throw was tossed at him. Y/N simply fluffed up her pillow and turned her back to Draco as she laid down again. With his shoulders heavy and a prominent frown Draco picked up his pillow and throw and went to the nearest guest room. Pillow and throw tucked against his chest as he slept because her scent lingered.

THIS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE. I have left out happenings. As I typed this more movement was reported. This is happening NOW.

Direct your eyeballs to the eastern (that's on the right of the map) oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk. These two oblasts make up the Donets Coal Basin, or Donbas region, of Ukraine. coal coal coal.

On this map above you can see an outline of the Russian separatist-controlled area of Eastern Ukraine. Please note that the Russian separatist-controlled area is not analogous to the oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk. When on 21 February 2022 Putin declared recognition of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) as independent, we did not know if he meant just those cities and the surrounding Russian separatist-controlled areas OR the entirety of the oblasts. Where these borders are is incredibly important because Putin will use any excuse to declare a Ukrainian provocation. This ambiguity is to his advantage. [This is besides the fact that Putin has no fucking right to declare any of this land independent, or take any of it for Russia in the coming days.]

The Russian separatists, of course, claim the entirety of the oblasts, and Putin recognizes those claims. Russia has come to the "aid" of the separatists to defend against Ukrainian "aggression."

Tonight (23 February 2022), President Zelenskyy of Ukraine tried to speak to Putin on the phone, but was rebuffed. He gave a brief update to his people in Ukrainian, and then a long speech to the Russian people in Russian. Below is text of a translation of that speech from Max Seddon on twitter [thread starts here, good follow]:

We are divided by a shared border of more than 2,000 kilometers. Almost 200,000 of your troops and thousands of military vehicles are standing alongside it. Your leadership has ordered them to move forward, onto another country's territory. This step could be the start of a big war on the European continent. The whole world is talking about what could happen any day now. Any provocation. Any flare-up – one that could burn everything.

They're telling you that this flame will liberate the people of Ukraine, but the Ukrainian people are free. They remember their past and are building their future. Ukraine on your TV news and the real Ukraine are two totally different countries. Ours is real.

Russia is going to invade Ukraine, and not just the Russian separatist-controlled regions that were recently declared independent republics by Putin. This is colonization. Ukraine has a rich history and culture separate from Russia (its history and culture is MUCH OLDER than that of Russia, even). Putin denies this and claims that Ukraine is Russian. This is false and ahistorical.

(But why are there so many Russian-speakers in Donetsk and Luhansk? Well perhaps because the Soviets committed genocide in the 1930s and purposely starved millions of Ukrainians so that ethnic Russians could move onto their land. Search "Holodomor" if this is new information to you.)

Agustina's a beautiful kingdom, Grand or Majestic in Latin, and indeed the kingdom was magnificent! The most grand and fascinating body in Agustina was the king's and queen's castle, the King and Queen of Agustina were Y/f/n and Y/m/n, they had their only daughter, Y/n Y/l/n, who would be the Queen of Agustina after her parents. Y/n was a beautiful girl, she was the definition of beauty, with her long Y/h/c and beautiful hair flowing down to her waist and her mesmerizing Y/e/c eyes adding to her beauty.

Many princes from distant kingdoms tried to charm this beautiful and stunning princess, but she was not the type of princess who would fall so easily for any prince. She was a very independent and brave princess; she didn't rely on her parents for everything; her family's names have indeed entered the annals of history, but Y/n preferred to be known by her first name rather than her surname.

She was a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her Hogwarts years were filled with high grades in all subjects, being the prefect and Head Girl, being the Quidditch Captain, and even winning the Quidditch Cup! All of her professors adored her.

She was perfect, and she had established her first name in such a way that anyone hearing the name Y/n would only have positive things to say about her; she was well-liked by the people of Agustina. She continued to visit her professors almost every year after graduating from Hogwarts. She is a strong and independent woman on whom the citizens of Agustina, her parents, and everyone will rely when the time comes for her to be crowned queen.

Now begins the story of the princess of Agustina, soon to be Queen of Agustina, whose life appeared to be without difficulty. But her life wasn't easy; after all, she was a girl, and few people believed a girl could be this intelligent and brave, a girl who could rule her parents' beautiful kingdom. She had a difficult time expressing herself and proving to everyone that she was more than just an ordinary girl. Her problems didn't end there; those were just minor setbacks in the face of a massive Tsunami wave that could easily wash her away.

Y/n sat at her grand bedroom desk, holding her favourite book, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Y/n loves the works of muggle authors, particularly romantic novels. She had a whole section in her library dedicated to it. The view in front of her was a very rare occurrence and probably the most unexpected thing she could see; in front of her was her home garden with magical herbs, shrubs, and flowers, but when her gaze fell over the nearby window, she saw a flower in her garden, the Alchemilla flower, which was in the shade of brown; this flower had a special magical power in which if it changed to a brownish-black colour, it would bring bad luck to the person seeing it.

"Merlin!" y/n palmed herself. “It had to be me!” She muttered to herself and closed her book, she now wanted to go outside and just walk around her big castle, as an only child she didn't have anyone to talk to, so she usually talked to herself and sometimes her parents, but mostly they were busy with Agustina's governing.

She went outside to get some fresh air; the sun was almost setting, the sky had turned pinkish, and the evening star could now be seen; Y/n's favourtite star to watch was the morning/evening star, Venus.

This star could only be seen after the sun set and before the sun rose, very few people consider it a star because it's a planet, but Y/n loved seeing this particular star because it was the only star Y/n talked to, it was Y/all n's time friend, she did have friends from Hogwarts with whom she was in touch, but they were now working for the Ministry of Magic and she was set to be the Queen of Agustina, so she couldn't talk to them often. She adored her kingdom and couldn't bear the thought of leaving it.

“Hello Venus, today I had gone horse-riding and it was so much fun! I even learnt archery today as mother and father said it was important as a queen to know these skills, today of ALL days I am missing my friends terribly, I imagined their reactions to learning horse riding with me. Ha! I bet Hermione would scream to the top of her lungs when the horse runs faster! Well, I was thinking of meeting them soon, it has indeed been long since I met them, don’t you think?” Y/n spoke, and the evening star twinkled, she smiled up at the sky and said “Okay then! I will owl them now!”

When she arrived at the owlery, she took some treats for her owl from a nearby box; her owl was one of a kind. The one Y/n owned was an eagle owl with silvery-blue coloured feathers; this was a very rare one, and they say if another eagle owl with similar unique coloured feathers is also owned by someone, the owl's owners are said to be soulmates. Y/n did believe in this concept, but finding her soulmate would be a difficult task, especially since she had to focus on her ambitions of ruling Agustina right now.

Y/n then took some spare parchment from a nearby desk and began writing her letter to her closest friends with a quill and ink.

Dear Friends,

I know it has been a long time since I wrote to all of you, but as you can see, you were all busy with your Ministry jobs, while I was here preparing to become a queen; my parents have set up some courses for me to attend in order for me to learn a few techniques and skills on how to be an efficient queen. As a result, I didn't have time to speak with all of you, for which I am deeply sorry.

Anyway, I wanted to tell all of you guys that it's been a long time since we've met and talked. I was thinking about meeting you all. What do you think? Let us meet on the following Sunday, if you are all available, as there appears to be a lot of work assigned by the ministry.

As Y/n finished writing her letter to her friends, she quickly took out her wand and muttered "Geminio," and the letter duplicated itself into 5, and she tied each one to an owl, who flew away with the letter in their claws. As she walked down the castle's corridors, Y/n watched as the owls flew away, and then she went in the direction of her bedroom.

But as she went into her bedroom to get ready for bed, there was a knock on the door. Y/n then went and opened the door to find her butler, "Princess, your parents have asked for your presence." he said, and Y/n nodded. She then went into her room one last time for some touch-ups on her make-up and fixed her dress and hair, and off she went into the conference room where her parents were patiently waiting for her with a wide smile

"What's the problem, mother and father?" "Why have you summoned me at this time of day?" "Y/n, you know we had started looking for a groom for you to-" but her father was cut off by Y/n "Father, I don't want to get married now." "Dear, you know someday you will have to get married, we were just saying that we had started looking for a groom for you, and we think we have found one," her mother said.

Y/n was stunned, her eyes widened, and her mouth hung open, unable to form words. "You are going to marry the Prince of Maristella." We have made an agreement with them that their kingdom will merge with ours if our daughter marries their son. And we accepted the offer because it would benefit both for our kingdom and you. "After your marriage, you will be Queen of Agustina, and the prince will be King," her father explained.

Y/n began to speak, "But father I-" but was cut off by her mother, "It is for your own good dear." Y/n huffed angrily and said, "I'm going to bed," before getting up from her chair and walking off to her bedroom.

She was enraged, furious, mad and what not? I mean, what girl with aspirations of becoming Queen and ruling the kingdom would marry off so quickly? Indeed, her friends did marry, such as Harry and Ginny, Hermione and Ron, Neville and Hannah, and Luna and Rolf, but they did so because they were in love, which Y/n had not yet experienced. She desired to marry after becoming the Queen, but her parents had other plans for her.

Furthermore, she could have married anyone but the Prince of Maristella! This prince was her sworn enemy; she despised him so much that no words could express her feelings for him.

Y/n was a very respected student at Hogwarts, but one person, Draco Malfoy, heir to the Malfoy family and Prince of the kingdom of Maristella, the nearby kingdom of Agustina, never treated her with the same respect and hospitality that the others did. Y/n and Draco had their usual bickering and insults thrown at each other, but because Y/n had a reputation to uphold, she mostly ignored Draco's rude remarks on her, but Draco had a thing for getting under people's skin and he never left Y/n alone.

Draco Malfoy, the mere existence of this person was  enough for Y/n to become enraged; she had met him for the first time at her castle, her parents had introduced her to Draco when they were children, and Y/n had happily smiled and greeted him, but Draco simply huffed and sat on her bed with a frown on his face. "Would you like to play with me in the garden?" Y/n asked, to which Draco replied, "You see, I am not at all interested in playing with you, I have only come here because my parents said so, so would you mind just sitting down and not talking at all?"

This was enough for Y/n to close her mouth and take a seat on a nearby chair. She never even spoke to him during meet-ups after that, and her rivalry with Draco began there. When they were being sorted into houses, she met Harry and Ron, and they became instant friends, and soon Hermione would join them, and they would become the best of friends. But when Draco came up to Ron and mocked him for his hand-me-down robes, Y/n stepped forward and said, "Says the person whose parents need resources from my parents every now and then," to which Draco was left embarrassed

Y/n and Draco had never actually talked until the seventh year; they only insulted each other, and even during Grand Balls that the kingdoms would host, they never even looked at each other because they knew they couldn't have a normal conversation. Y/n never spoke to him after graduating, and neither did Draco; both of them went their separate ways in life, but it appears that fate has merged their paths.

No one could deny that Draco was attractive, but his attitude ruined it all. There were some people who drooled over him, such as Pansy Parkinson, but he couldn't care less about them. He had dated a few people by now, but he couldn't keep the relationships going.

When his parents informed him of his arranged marriage, he was astounded; the people who couldn't even look at each other had to marry? "Mother, I-" "Draco, we need this marriage, we've been in this poor condition, and the only way to get some money and maintain our status is this marriage, you will marry her and that's final," his father said. Draco's mother, Narcissa, smiled encouragingly at him, but he just sighed and went to his room.

Y/n couldn't believe it as she lay in her bed. She had despised this man her entire life, and now she is about to marry him? How could life be so inhumane? "It's all because of the Alchemilla," she reasoned, "but why would mother and father agree to this?" "How could they?" she muttered to herself as she flipped from one position on her bed to another. She eventually got out of bed and went to the window to look through it; the Alchemilla was still visible, and it was in the same shade as before. She sighed and looked up at the stars, which were spectacularly spread across the deep blue sky.

Y/n's eyes glistened and a small tear ran down her cheek, she quickly wiped it away and took a deep breath in, she just wanted to achieve her goal and not marry right away, she wanted to live her life as the queen and then marry the person she likes. She then went to her bed and lay down, unable to sleep at all.

As the sun rose and spread its rays across the earth, Y/n was wide awake, her tired and weary eyes wandered around her room, and as she stood up from her bed, she rubbed her eyes and yawned, she then went and got ready for breakfast, and as she made her way towards the dining hall, her butler came and greeted her cheerfully, "Good morning, our beautiful princess!" and Y/n simply looked at him, smiled softly, and said, "Good morning, Peter." She tried her hardest to be active in the morning, but Peter sensed something was wrong, "What's the matter, princess?" "What's the deal with you being so... glum today?" as he raised his brow and to which Y/n replied sarcastically, "Don't you know Peter? "I'm sure mother and father told you about it."

"Umm, princess, we...tried convincing your majesty....," Peter said as his smile faded."  But...” Y/n then closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "Anyway, I have to go and eat my breakfast, so please excuse me." Peter then nodded and motioned for her to proceed.

She then sat on a chair in the dining room next to a window, and her other servants served her breakfast. While she was eating, her father entered the room and sat on the chair opposite her, and soon her mother joined them for breakfast.

Y/n wasn't ready to talk to them after what happened yesterday. How could they force her into a marriage she doesn't want? She sighed and ate her toast with orange juice when her father cleared his throat and said, "Y/n, you will be meeting the Prince of Maristella, we will be planning the wedding for the both of you today." As he said those words, Y/n spit out her orange juice and exclaimed, "TODAY?"
