This is really interesting ty! I find the point about Gale as a POC character very interesting. While I (as a white person) don't feel entirely qualified to speak on this, I have noticed a trend of a lot of the men of colour being very similar in a way that other characters aren't. That's not to say they don't have depth, but there is certainly a trend of them being primarily strong and not having much of a voice. Feel free to correct me on that, but it's something I picked up on.

Gale is also brutally mischaracterised by the fandom. While Peeta is mischaracterised too, he’s not made out to be nothing more than a killer like Gale is. I think he has flaws but I also think these are understandable. People constantly overlook his manipulation while discussing him; he was exploited constantly by Coin and rightfully angry. I think many of his actions are understandable and his flaws add to his character. While I don't particularly like him myself, it feels like an injustice to his character to treat him entirely based on his bad traits.

Hey! I’m currently writing up a full post on my thoughts on Gale, so I was wondering if you could give an explanation of your thoughts on him? I’m genuinely very interested because I don’t see many people who like him so I’d like to hear another perspective if it’s not too much trouble :)

So one of the primary reasons why I like Gale is because I relate to him. He is angry and full of rage and people shame him for it even tho he has every right to feel like that. He is just doing the best he can and he is NEVER resting. So many people misunderstand his character and it annoys me so much. They shit om him because he has romantic feelings during a war time which is so stupid because you can still be in love during a rebellion. Meanwhile, they praise a white man for doing the very same thing.

Which brings me to yet another reason why I like him. I think Suzanne Collins dived into writing his character with some racial prejudice. I am not saying she's a bad person, but I do believe that everyone is trained to be racist by the society and then they have to unlearn it through life. I think Suzanne Collins didn't try to educate herself on writing POC characters. In case it's not clear by now, Gale is POC in the books. I feel like the books are clearly biased, not as much as the movies, but still villainize him through racial stereotypes. That's why I, as somebody mixed race myself, have a lot of compassion towards him and relate to his character a lot. I found out I was mixed when I was 13 bc my dad has internalize racism bc he's also mixed and blah, blah, blah but basically it makes me sick to my stomach that people shit on such a great and complex character while praising a white man for doing the very same thing. Tbh the only reason I believe Katniss is treated better is bc she is the main character.
