Natasha gasped, “You’ve never had a surprise birthday? How could you have gone your entire life without one?”

You shrugged, “No one ever really wanted to do it. I suppose I just didn’t let it bother me too much, so it never did. I’m fine with having my own little party by myself.”

Your story was enough to make the redhead want to burst into the tears- she had to do something. “Well I’m sorry honey. Now c’mon, let’s go and see the movie now.” Natasha said, giving a kiss to your forehead.

You had thought nothing of the conversation when your birthday rolled around- until you were welcomed by a scatter of balloons and Natasha jumping out from behind the couch. “Surprise!” She squealed happily.

You wiped happy tears out of your ears while Natasha wrapped her arms around you, “Natasha, you really didn’t have to do all of this!”

“Yes, I did. Because you’re my partner, and you deserve the best birthday surprise ever. Now c’mon, there’s cake!”

You yawned as you woke up from your nap, putting your hand up to block the glow of the sun. You allowed yourself to stretch before arising from your bed, looking for the blonde you wanted to see.

You had been slipping between your headspaces all day long, and Yelena had been patiently waiting for you to finally drop.

You wobbled as you tried to walk, and your bottom lip stuck out into a pout when you realized how little you truly felt. You just needed your mommy. You had always been known to play anxiously with strands of your hair, so you tried to calm yourself down by doing so.

“Hey honey, I saw you woke up from your nap, what’s up-” Yelena paused when she saw you playing with your hair. “Hey my little one, I’ve missed you.” She cooed, scooping you up into her arms and heading back into your room.

“Missed you too, mommy.” You mumbled in the crook of her neck, your tiredness suddenly coming back with vengeance.

“I know my little cupcake is tired, so let’s have a nap, okay? I’ll be right here, and we’ll have lots of snuggles.” She said softly, and you didn’t try to  object in the slightest.

“‘Kay mommy. Love you.” You whispered, before your eyes finally started to droop, and sleep overtook you once again.
