Liquid Crystal Displays
Liquid crystal displays, or LCDs, are everywhere these days: computers, digital watches, DVD and CD players, calculators. But what are they? Liquid crystals, as discussed previously, are an intermediate phase of matter between solids and liquids. LCDs use the orentation of these phases to rotate polarized light and produce the displays we have all become so familiar with.
Unlike old devices that used cathode ray tubes, LCDs are thin and energy efficient, with lower power consumption. Their end result is an image made of pixels, each a separate color, that work together to produce almost anything you can imagine. More simple LCDs can have fixed images, or only a limited number of options, such as the display on your calculator, while complex displays are used in your computers or smartphones to show what you’re seeing right now.
Entirely illuminated by an external source, LCDs consist of a layer of liquid crystals between electrodes and polarized glass filters. These polarized filters allow each pixel to be switched on or off, either transmitting or blocking the light from passing through to your screen.
There are many different varies of LCDs given the many easily changeable variables. Commonly the external light source is an LED, but any external source will do and the incoming light can be polarized to begin with. Likewise, the liquid crystals themselves can affect the LCD, depending on their phase.

Everything in my room has to fit the helpol aesthetic because I’m autistic about it. So I used a wine bottle holder as a jewellery stand.
