ten mundane moments that mean more because soonyoung’s with you.

author note: technically related to forever but can be read as a standalone ! i love them too much, so they get a follow up :D i recommend listening to peach eyes by wave to earth while reading this hehe lots of love and i hope you enjoy <33

“hey soonie, you alright?”

you wait with your ear to the door because you haven’t heard any noise in the bathroom since the shower stopped around five minutes ago—soonyoung usually drops a couple of things while he’s in there, so you’re worried.

“babe!” you hear a muffled cry, and open the door slowly, making sure you don’t scare him before stopping in your tracks.

“…kwon soonyoung, why are you hiding behind the curtain like that?”

you stare at the way your husband sheepishly peers at you over the striped material that’s wrapped around his body haphazardly, and he grins. “i forgot my towel…can you go get it for me?”

you raise the neatly folded tiger print towel in your hands with a smile. “this one?”

soonyoung nods happily, and lets go of the curtain saving his decency when you stretch your arm out so he can grab the cloth in your hand, turning your head away from him for his sake.

as he takes his towel out of your grip, he makes sure to squeeze your hand, giggling your name. “now, get out! let me protect my tiger parts, okay?”

“we literally live together but fine, fine!” you chuckle as you exit the bathroom with a wave, averting your gaze from his body—the last thing you hear is your husband’s giggles, and the sound of him knocking something over like usual.

you groan as soonyoung nuzzles into the crook of your neck, and the arms around your waist tighten in a strong embrace.

“you’re not allowed to get up yet!” he exclaims, looking up at you with sleepy but mischievous eyes.

you raise an eyebrow before yawning and soonyoung makes a show of turning away from your face, prompting you to plant a long kiss on his forehead. when he giggles, saying it’s ticklish, you hum nonchalantly.

“can you let me get up now?” you ask, and your husband shakes his head adamantly, pointing to the pout on his face.

you narrow your eyes before indulging soonyoung with a sigh, kissing him softly until he smiles against your lips. you pull away with a smile, and he grins before placing a gentle hand on the back of your neck and pulling you towards the grin on his face. “now come on, you can’t really expect to go anywhere after that, can you?”

Home.

iii.

you nod along to your husband’s incoherent mumbling as he sobs, his head in your lap.

“and—and she never got to see him again cause he moved away but he passed away before he could come back,” soonyoung says between gulps of air in between his sniffles, looking up at you teary eyed.

you nod along to his words, the ending credits of 20th century girl still playing on the tv in front of you as soonyoung continues. “i can’t even imagine what it would be like if i was in her position, you know! if i couldn’t see you for so long and then find out you’re—” he hiccups as another onset of tears come on, and he wraps an arm around your waist.

you pat his hair, speaking softly. “soonie, it’s okay. that just makes you more glad that you’re here with me, right? let’s hold onto that feeling instead of borrowing grief from a future that doesn’t exist, alright?”

your husband nods and sniffles once more before getting up, suddenly excited. “baby, can we watch the first slam dunk again?”

you sigh lightly, the mention of the movie you’ve basically memorized because of how many times you’ve watched it with soonyoung almost causing a headache. “of course we can, my love.”

Home.

iv.

“oh my god, what the—kwon soonyoung, what was that for!”

your husband looks at you sheepishly after honking at the car that’s in front of you. “what, babe? they cut in front of us.”

“you could give a little warning, maybe. that scared me.” you say, rolling your eyes at his frown.

soonyoung wiggles as he puts his hand on yours on the seat, keeping one hand on the steering wheel so he can…you know, drive you to the park you’ve been planning to go to for a while now.

latte barks in the back, and you chuckle. “see, even latte agrees with me!”

your husband giggles, and promises his daughter (and you) that you’ll be there soon, even if he has to take a shortcut.

“kwon soonyoung, we are breaking no laws today!”

Home.

v.

soonyoung brings a plate of cut strawberries over for you, and places it down with a thud on your desk and a grimace at your expression. “still no luck?”

“i really don’t get why this workshop requires a textbook like. yeah, it’s technically a class but come on!” you grumble, and your husband places a strawberry in your mouth and you continue in between bites. “at least i didn’t have to pay for it.”

soonyoung nods thoughtfully before placing a kiss on your cheek—and another strawberry in your mouth with a giggle when you open it for him.

he smiles, gesturing towards the fruit on your table. “why don’t we take a break, okay? you can go back to reading after eating these.”

you nod, and he grins when you take a few pieces and stuff your mouth with them. “i swear, i’m going to burn this textbook.”

soonyoung wipes off the strawberry juice on your cheek and nods seriously. “i’ll get the matches.”

Home.

vi.

your husband groans, his fever still not dropping from the high temperature it was in the morning. he holds onto your hand like it’s life support, even if you offer to make soup for him so he can actually get some food into his system.

“no!” soonyoung says when you suggest getting up, drawing out the word until you giggle. “you’re not allowed to leave my side ever again after you went to the bathroom.”

you groan at his behaviour and replace the wet cloth on his forehead again, wringing out the excess water. “hey, i had to!”

soonyoung smiles wearily before nuzzling his face against your hand—yikes, he’s still way too hot. “just stay with me please, at least until i fall asleep.”

“i never planned to leave.” you sigh, cupping his cheek in your hand.

Home.

vii.

you look to your side as soonyoung calls out your name, and find him fast asleep, even with your reading light on.

“i…don’t…stay, please…no, tiger!” he mumbles, and you chuckle lightly—what is his dream even about?

you place your hand over your husband’s beside you, patting it softly. “i’m right here, and i won’t leave, okay?”

soonyoung shifts in his sleep, and a smile takes over his face. you hope it’s a sign of a good dream as you go back to your book, a yawn escaping your lips.

Home.

viii.

your husband enters in with a lack of the volume you’re used to, and as he sits down beside you on the living room couch, he stares up at the ceiling quietly.

“hi, soonie. someone’s tired today, huh?” you joke, and when he nods without a smile, you frown, putting your head on his shoulder, the weight comforting him. “you must be exhausted.”

soonyoung hums in agreement with your words, and you stay still, waiting for him to speak eventually—he likes to say he recharges in your presence, since he feels no pressure to be the loud person he usually is around you.

eventually, he sighs, turning to look at you while taking your hand to place a kiss on your palm. “thank you, my home.”

you roll your eyes at the pet name before patting his cheek. “always.”

Home.

ix.

“why are you looking at me like that?” you ask, not looking at the pouty man beside you, and instead focusing on figuring out what bag of rice to buy.

soonyoung interlocks arms with you as he clears his throat, and says your name pleadingly. “please, can we buy chocolate milk?”

he’s been asking this for the past seven minutes, and though you would love to, you wouldn’t have enough space in the fridge thanks to how much meat he’s already put in your cart.

you turn to him and raise an eyebrow, talking slowly. “soonie, what did i say earlier?”

he looks away and pouts again before mumbling, “i have to take out all the meat if i want choco milk…” he turns back to you, using his boba eyes to his advantage. “but…i’m a tiger, and tigers need meat!”

you huff out a breath. “well, tigers don’t need expensive shirts, so i guess i can toss those out when we get home.” you pause before gasping, snapping your fingers before looking at him sweetly. “actually, tigers don’t even need human partners!”

your husband frowns, and his eyebrows bunch up as he crosses his arms in protest. “fine, be that way.”

a few minutes later, he pipes up again with a sheepish grin, wrapping his arms around you from the back. “i promise to take some—okay most of the meat out.” he corrects himself at your pointed glare before giggling, placing a kiss on your cheek when you nod, satisfied.

“can we get tiger cookies though?”

Home.

x.

you’re pretty sure soonyoung’s trying to say something but the toothbrush in his mouth is stopping you from understanding—or he might just be humming along to one of the songs he was practicing earlier; it’s one of the two.

your matching orange and black toothbrush hangs from your mouth as you stop, trying to pay  attention to your husband’s reflection in the mirror as his head bops, and you realize he’s just falling asleep in the middle of brushing.

you spit out the toothpaste before rinsing, and look up at soonyoung when you finish wiping your mouth. “soonie, wake up!”

your husband jolts at being called out and his toothbrush almost falls from his mouth before he finishes up, wiping his face when he’s done.

after he puts his toothbrush next to yours, soonyoung looks up at the mirror and catches your eyes. he grins toothily, showing off his now shiny teeth.

your husband giggles softly as you smile back, and everything feels right.
