A character I commissioned from cubeparty_ on Twitter! I have a little bit of character building I have to do for Lib here, but the rundown is that they’re a borzoi that had gotten into something that they probably shouldn’t have.

WAIT I DIDN'T KNOW YOU USED PROCREATE?? Do you have any art tips?? Especially for painting and your art style in general because I just CAN'T do painting at all

Usually I use CSP, but sadly, I’m away from my computer and I’m wary about the whole ‘transferring licenses, but only a limited amount of times that we won’t tell you how many’ business, so I use Procreate in the meantime!

My biggest art tip for wrangling a new art program is try and find your way around my brushes. In CSP, my main brush is the regular g-pen, and it took me a while, but the technical pen roughly fills the same niche.

Procreate also doesn’t have a multi-layer select / colour drop feature, so at times I either trace the lineart with a base colour or transfer the .psd file to Ibis Paint X (which arguably works like a dream on airplane mode) to select it for me and transfer it back. I used to use IPX mainly before weaning myself to Procreate, but it’s fine to use both just as much!

Also; look at what other people are doing, specifically drawing within Procreate. When I first got CSP years back, I didn’t like it. The brushes weren’t like Medibang’s brushes at all. I had to do the above tips, as well as look at people drawing within the art program to break it in for me.

^^ THIS ALSO DOES WONDERS FOR GAINING AN ART STYLE. Not just watching people draw, but studying their paintings. My favourite painters are Clockbirds and Bubblewolf, both of whom’s paintings I look at closely when I paint. I also recommend looking at @.obscure-entity / snaps on TH because it’s method of shading is something I like to utilise at times!

But arguably the most important tip I can give is; don’t stop trucking onwards. You may feel you may not be able to paint but instead of “I can’t paint”, it should be “I may not be able to paint now, but I will”. Your mind is a powerful machine, make it work for you!
