art of the dormition/assumption never shows mary of nazareth as an older woman. the catholic imagination is so terrified of losing her to abjection and rupture that she is not only not afforded a corpse (with all its wonderful sacraments of sick), but her body is indeed not allowed to bare age at all. what would our faith look like if it left space for the aging, alteric body of the m/Mother?
