dude, the study of animal cognition is the area where we have to be the MOST careful against anthropomorphizing!

animals absolutely have cognizance and intelligence of their own, but it's VERY different from ours. so if we want to truly understand animal behavior, we have to be very, very, VERY careful against deliberately or accidentally assigning human motivations to animal behavior of any type.

and that's what "anthropomorphizing" is- assigning purely human motivations to the behavior of non-human beings, and ignoring their own very real actual inner lives and motivations.
