watching the mischaracterized mother characters poll discussion and nodding along sagely from the sidelines. i feel like most mother 3 characters (and porkyyyy) get it pretty bad, but i voted for lucas. thinkin' 'bout how he's so often flanderized down to a sweet sniveling little bean - when what always struck me most about him is his courageous perseverance. or conversely he'll be used as a funnel for righteous spite toward flint and the world at large - when his whole deal always seemed to be forgiveness and familial love in spite of it all. or he'll be portrayed like a broken bird, either a hopeless angst fountain or in need of a codependent savior. when like. he's all about moving forward. taking personal initiative, in tandem with supportive friendships. someone who acknowledges the worst the world has to offer, faces it directly, and still finds a million reasons to strive for better. this has stopped being a fanon gripe post actually, i'm just endlessly enamored with how much growth and hope and nuance they managed to cram into this mostly-silent protagonist.
