ZACH DEMPSEY AND WINSTON WILLIAMS 13 Reasons Why (4x06 - “Thursday”)
I really don't think the show can live without Smurf, it doesn't make sense
I think if this was the end of season 1 or the end of season 2, I would agree with you.
But Smurf is not the entire show.
The boys all developed their own storylines over the course of the last 2 seasons. Deran came out and now he has Adrian, Craig is a new dad, J's storyline is really in the driver's seat right now, and Pope has his own thing going on with his inner demons/the demon that is Angela.
I understand that sexism is an issue on the show and most, if not all of the female characters usually die or leave. But the show isn't about the "females" of Oceanside. It's about the CODY family, which just so happens to be made almost entirely of men. Are women on the show treated like they're expendable and replaceable? 100%. Does that suck? Also 100%
But people can't act like they're tuning into the show every week to see the girls. They're not, they're there to see the boys, to see DeranxAdrian, to see what crazy shit J and Pope do.
Not to mention, a very large portion of the fanbase is very anti-Smurf now that all the bad blood between Ellen and the cast has come to light. It's clear that she has made things tense and uncomfortable, has encouraged her fans to bully the boys, and almost constantly takes digs at the show on her twitter page. I think her on-set behavior is part of the reason they gave her the storyline they did, and if things are THAT bad then she has to go. At that point it isn't about sexism or ageism or anything else. If she is toxic, if she is a bully, if she is doing something wrong then she has to go. Whether she's a woman or not.
Ellen Barkin didn't make the show what it is. Was she the biggest name on the show when it premiered back in 2016? For sure. But the family bonding, the heists, the complicated relationships with the boys... THAT is what made AK so successful. The show can and will survive even if Smurf doesn't.
I'll admit what he did was wrong and I love tyler I really do but I agree with everything that was said in this post. He did deserve better than what he got.🖤 ps I think they way Bryce went out sucked to it was like he was really changing so much for the better but that's a hole nother conversation for another time.

I will continue to defend Monty and his right for a chance at redemption, and I don’t care what you think. Winston was what Monty needed. Winston accepted Monty for who he was, and who he wanted to be. For the first time in the whole series, we see Monty actually show a realistic, relatable and sensitive side to his character. Something that has been long awaited for. Ill remind you we seen Monty; apologize for the first time, sincerely say; I ain’t going to do anything, (which he regrets his wrongs), and stand up to his father by admitting he’s gay. (acceptance within himself). Montgomery was making a difference, and that was a difference that we did notice. He was starting to change into a better man... however; change is not possible overnight, especially, with how broken he really was... 💔 Now.. I don’t care if you call this a justification or an explanation. But he was also abused and neglected as a child, and that truly explains where his violent and out of control behavior came from. He was a prisoner, and a product of his environment. (That he never got the proper help for) Not to mention he had no one to turn to, or confide in about his abuse, anger, depression or sexuality. I mean did we all see how his dad *spit* in his face and called him a fa***t... :/ that’s horrible... Monty should of been given that chance, he became the most complex character this season. Monty needs to return in Season 4 (Alive), because Winston is going to get him his Justice. I mean like Winston said: He’s a human being, and he didn’t deserve that. 👏🏼👬
“Winston was a very important person in Monty’s life," Granaderos tells Refinery29 during the show's press junket in Napa Valley. "He was the only person who told Monty he could be whatever he wanted to be. Monty’s response was 'No, I can't,' which is so sad. If their relationship went on, Monty’s vulnerability could have opened up, and he could have discovered himself and seen things a little differently."
This is so true, and I hope that we continue to explore and find out more about this Monty that we grown to sympathize and love. 💙
BTW: you have to psychologically analyze him, to understand the explanation.
