So this series of ours has been gaining a lot of attention! And my goodness it fills my cold dead rock of a heart with joy! Thank you all so much!

Here is one final one before the year ends. I managed to finish it in time! Good thing too cause I shall be busy on the 31st most likely. Birthdays tend to be attention stealers. But anyways, I hope you like it!

And if you have any questions about this au, feel free to send either me or @karugoround an ask! We love to talk about this au.

Hajime had a radio. He used it frequently to report back to his superiors when they demanded answers or updates. And while it could be annoying at times to hear the buzzing static, he much preferred it over the other method they used to remotely talk to him.

“Hinata. Bring Izuru Kamukura to the fourth floor today. Be there in an hour.”

The sound came directly from his collar. The metal around his neck wasn’t just for show. He knew there were trackers and communication methods installed in it. They used it to talk to him when they were too lazy to get a radio. And, Hajime guessed, it was a way to remind him of his status in the chain of command. He was their servant. The bottom rung of the chain. He meant practically nothing to them. If he died today, they would only care enough to be scared for their own safety in taking care of their dangerous project.

But Hajime had long come to terms with that fact. So he pushed down the negative feelings and finished his chores on the fifth floor. He felt the need to keep everything tidy and organized on the floor. It was all equipment and supplies for Izuru, so he needed to make sure everything was perfect.

But back to the original order. He was to take Izuru to the fourth floor. The floor where experiments happened. Experiments on Izuru. It made his blood boil to think about. They were probably planning to do something intense and invasive. And most likely, they wouldn’t try to be gentle. Past experiences had proven that much.

Hajime grimaced as he thought of those times. It was never easy for anyone when the doctors and scientists decided to try these things. But, they almost always got what was coming to them in the form of Izuru’s luck. So Hajime didn’t protest the decision. Not that they would have listened to the lowly servant anyways.

Taking a deep breath, Hajime did his best to calm himself. He shouldn’t get so worked up about this. He didn’t want to appear unprofessional. So he walked over to the elevator, calling it and stepping in once it arrived. He was soon at the Ultimate Hope’s door, using his card to open it and entering. “Good afternoon, sir. How are you feeling?”

The red eyes were already locked onto him. Bright and intense. “I feel as though I am drugged against my will. Being forced to remain idle for an indefinite amount of time while foolish individuals try to play god.”

The caretaker sighed. “You could have just said that you aren’t doing well. But then again, I did ask.”

A smirk occured before the man replied. “That you did.” It vanished immediately after. “I predict that you are here for a reason. To take me somewhere. They are planning on doing something to me, aren’t they?”

Knowing it was impossible to lie to Izuru, he opted for honesty instead. “Yes. I received an order to bring you to the fourth floor. I… am sorry for this. I wish you didn’t have to experience this torture they disguise as experiments or examinations.”

Izuru stood up from the bed, taking a second to steady himself. He had been given sedatives not too long ago, so he was not the most stable. Hajime was quick to rush over and lend an arm for support. Izuru took it well, leaning on the appendage heavily. “It was to happen eventually. Very well. Let us go.”

Hajime wound an arm around Izuru’s midsection, supporting him more. “But hey. You get to ride in the elevator. You like it, right?”

The smile did increase at the mention of the elevator. “Yes. I do very much enjoy that form of transportation. Highly enjoyable in comparison to others, such as stairs. Truly the best method of ascension and descension.”

The enthusiasm that the white haired man exuded over the topic was… definitely different than what Hajime was used to. But not in a bad way. He was more than happy to allow the other to continue talking about the mechanical properties of elevators the whole way to the door. But he went silent when they stepped in, eyes closing as if he was enjoying every second in the tight space.

Then the elevator dinged, signaling that they had arrived at the chosen floor. That killed any semblance of a positive mood the two of them had. “We are here. How unfortunate.”

Hajime stayed silent, instead focusing on guiding Izuru to the operation room. It was slow, cold, and filled with tension. Everyone in the rooms around them paused in their activities to stare at them going past. He wished they wouldn’t stare like Izuru was a rare animal. He was so much more. Leagues higher than any here. And no one else could possibly compare. But sadly, no one else saw his glory. Too blinded by their hubris.

Much too fast, they arrived at the room. Several doctors were already there, covered head to toe in protective medical wear. Even their eyes and faces were obscured. Not a single speck of skin could be seen. Hajime guessed that they assumed they would be safe from Izuru’s luck if he didn’t know who they were. But he couldn’t deny that he was curious to see if this attempt would be successful.

The head doctor of this procedure gestured to the operating table, where only a thin sheet was placed. “Get him on the table. On his stomach. Then leave the room. Standby for further instructions after.”

Hajime hid his disdain, following the orders and helping Izuru get on the table. “I’ll be here when you are done. I’ll take you right back to your room to let you rest,” he promised in a whisper, reluctantly backing away as the doctors closed in on the Ultimate Hope. The red eyes stayed fixed on him the entire time, even as the doors closed and the doctors began discussing their plan.

“Get the large hollow needle. We are extracting bone marrow today. And no need for anesthesia.”

Then the door closed. Just as Hajime feared, they were not going to give Izuru any kind of numbing or pain relief. He was going to experience it all.

Clenching his fists, the caretaker tried to not think about it. He needed to help as much as he could. Perhaps Izuru could ride in a wheelchair back up. So he wouldn’t have to be on his feet. Thankfully, he knew where they were and was quick to fetch one. No one questioned it, simply ignoring him as he returned to the door with his acquired mobile chair. He spent a little time brushing the dust off and adjusting it to be the correct settings for his charge. He knew Izuru’s measurements. After all, he checked every day. It would be strange if he didn’t know it by heart now.

Then it was a matter of waiting. And those minutes of waiting certainly felt like an eternity. The thick doors prevented most of the noise from escaping the operation room. So Hajime was not able to tell what was happening in there. He despised these times. He truly hated not knowing what was happening to his charge.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the door opened. He was beckoned inside, to which he hurriedly did. He rushed to Izuru’s side, trying to gauge his state. And he did not look good. His already pale skin was even more white and his breathing was harder than normal. There also looked to be scratches on the metal under his nails. He really had been through a lot of pain to be in this condition.

He needed to be delicate and slow. He crouched down to be at eye level, meeting the red. “Sir? You are all done. I can take you back now. Can I help move you?”

The eyes searched his for a second, but he gave an almost invisible nod. Feeling relief at the permission, Hajime got to work. Carefully, he helped Izuru sit up and get off the table. He practically collapsed into the wheelchair, head lolling forward from exhaustion. After making sure he wouldn’t fall off, the caretaker grabbed the handles of the chair. “Let’s get you back to your bed.”

He pushed slowly, trying to make the movements as smooth as possible. Hearing and seeing no pained winces, he assumed this pace was good.

But apparently, it was not good enough for the doctors. “What are you doing? Go faster! Some of us have important things to do later today,” the lead doctor barked at him, glaring at them both.

Hajime maintained his composure, continuing his pace as he explained his reasoning. “He’s in pain. I’m trying to not aggravate his wound.”

But the doctor scoffed. “I don’t care about the amount of pain he’s in. In fact, for all the headache and reorganizing we’ve had to do since his creation, he deserves to suffer some.”

White hot rage coursed through his veins at those words. He had so many scathing things he wanted to scream out. But he couldn’t risk it. So he begrudgingly held his tongue. He did push a little faster, feeling guilt when he heard a pained hiss. “I promise I’ll go slower as soon as we are out of the room. Just hold on a little longer,” he whispered, trying to not let the others around him hear.

Izuru didn’t say anything, but his grip on the wheelchair did tighten. He was bracing himself. So Hajime got them out of the room as quick as he dared, several of the doctors filing out behind him as he kneeled in front of the white haired man. “Are you alright? Do you want a minute?” he asked, extremely concerned at this point.

Izuru took a breath, only a hint of shakiness to it. Then suddenly, his head whipped around to stare back into the operating room. His stare met the lead doctor’s, his always present smile now menacing and terrifying. With a series of frantic beeps and sirens, all the equipment in the room began overheating and malfunctioning. The few still left in the room realized what was happening. Scrambling over each other, they tried to escape. But the door slid shut, locking them in.

Izuru then returned his gaze to his caretaker’s. “Take me back to my room. Now, if you would,” he commanded, speaking for the first time since they arrived on this floor.

Hajime didn’t waste a second, returning to the wheelchair’s handles and slowly pushing it forward. They ignored the frantic banging on the door and the security trying to rush over and save the trapped staff. Instead, they entered the elevator and watched the doors slide shut. It was silent, except for the mechanical whirring in the walls around them. Neither of them spoke until they were back in the room, Hajime gently helping his charge lay on his bed on his stomach. “I’ll bring you an ice pack as soon as possible. That should help numb your back and maybe relieve some pain.”

“Yes… you should retrieve that. They were not careful. Something about how I would heal no matter what, so no need for precision or diligence,” Izuru said, laying heavily on his pillow. “Ironic for that to come from the ones that are supposed to heal. But they stoked the fires. And now they will burn.”

The sinister tone was frightening. It was almost enough to make Hajime fear for his own safety. Almost. But he knew he wouldn’t be a target of disaster today. “Those doors are thick and heavy. If they lock, there is no getting them open. I suspect the higher ups will not be attempting anything like this for a long time. You make it too risky.”

A dry laugh occured, a single eye opening to look up at him. “Your reasoning is sound. It really is unfortunate how your advice goes unheard.” The Ultimate Hope’s head turned, so both eyes were now gazing up at him. And even though Hajime was looking down at him, he still felt small in that gaze. “But rest assured, my dear caretaker. I am listening. And I always will.”

Hajime felt his heart quicken, his breath stolen for a moment. “I… I really should go get you that ice pack. I’ll… be back soon.” He rushed out the door, not hearing if Izuru made a reply. He reached the elevator and called it, grateful for when it arrived quickly. Perhaps the other staff were too busy to use it at the moment.

He then realized something. He was gradually getting less shocked at witnessing graphic sights and sounds. There certainly was no shortage here. Was he… losing a bit of his humanity with how desensitized he was becoming to this?

He shook his head, straightening up and neutralizing his face as he arrived at the fifth floor. If he was losing his humanity, then so be it. It was worth it. Izuru was worth it.

Have you ever considered doing a komahina Pokémon trainer au?

Oh that is a idea

I won’t deny that I have thought about what Pokémon the boys would have.

I have a few absolutes that I know they would have. But I will need a little more brainstorming to think of the others.

But that could be fun!

Btw, I just wanna remind everyone that @karugoround is the creator of this au. I am simply enjoying it along with everyone here. Please go show them support for their amazing creation. And also to look at their amazing art! It’s wonderful!

I am picking up your nagizuru au and shaking it the same way a dog would with it's favorite squeaky toy. I really hope you write a fic where nagizuru shows the doctors just who hajime belongs to, anyway keep up the great work!

I won’t deny I have had that idea in my brain for a while. I might do it eventually! Just gotta brainstorm more details for that potential encounter.

Also, thank you! I’m glad you are liking it!
