I first came across the action RPG Year In The Trees when I moved to Sweden and heard about Stugan, an incubator program that ran here from 2015â2018. For two months over the summer, game developers from all over the world would come together to work on their games in a cabin in the middle of Swedish nature. In 2018, Chris âLunoâ Smith was one of themâfittingly so, as his RPG is pretty much about living in a cabin in the middle of an enchanted forest.
Luno, started the project back in 2016 and itâs been wonderful to see his high-bit art style get polished over the years into the smoothness it has today. Combined with the music and ambience worthy of his musician background, we get a world that is as mysterious as Wizard Fuâs Songbringer and pleasant as ConcernedApeâs Stardew Valley (coincidentally two other games with solo devs that also did their own soundtracks).
In April we got the above vlog that gave us a closer look at the current state of the game and the kind of crafting/survival gameplay to expect. There are no release plans yet (or Steam pages to wishlist), but you can sign up for a newsletter on the gameâs website or follow Lunoâs updates on Twitter.

Light began to flood throughout the room, you were settled in between Taehyung and Jimin, the latterâs shirt clung tight in your grasp as you refused to let him go in your sleep. Taehyung was sitting up a little, just watching you and Jimin as you slept, his two mates clinging to each other at their most vulnerable.
He couldnât help but smile as you moved a little, your nose no longer resting on Jiminâs collarbone but now nosing at his scent glands, as if you were seeking out that specific location. In response to your lips at his neck, Jimin tilted his head to the side, giving you more access to the expanse of his neck. It reminded him of the hospital room when your roles were reversed and Jimin was scenting at your neck.
Taehyungâs hand was running through your hair, away from your face as he tried to unknot the dark strands. Your ears were flickering at every movement, as if saying âpet meâ. He knew your ears were a sensitive area, having very small scent glands right at the base of your ears. He couldnât help but begin to chuff at your sleeping form, proud that you felt safe enough to bare your neck to him, to sleep in his arms.

âListen, do you want me to punch them?â
Your best friend and co-worker, Ari, spoke from her spot next to you as you two eyed the other workers there. They were all mindlessly staring at their computers or highlighting papers all while they took breaks bringing you down.
You snorted. âNo. I donât want you to get in trouble.â
âItâs just annoying the way they believe they are the most beautiful creatures when their personalities are complete shit,â Ari scoffed out, glancing at you before you two looked away from everyone. You two faced the other way towards the muffins the CEOâs had dropped off early in the morning when no one was there. âLike, Iâm all for women power but, fuck that power when it comes to them.â
âAri,â you chuckled at her words and she shrugged, as if she didnât say anything wrong. And she didnât. You just didnât want her to be the subject of teasing next. âListen, donât worry that pretty head of yours. Iâm not exactly phased by it.â
âAs long as you arenât,â she looked at you, eyeing the strand of hair you placed behind your ear. âRemember, you are just as beautiful and you are absolutely breathtaking.â
âIâm going to start dating you if you donât stop.â
âPlease, do so,â she winked at you playfully before you two giggled at one anotherâs words. It was cut short when a voice broke you two out of your bubble.
âY/n, stop hogging the food, Iâm sure youâve had enough by the way you look,â Ari rolled her eyes when you two turned around to see, Iseul, the woman who will not leave you alone, and Minjun, who bullied you because said woman did so.
âOh, please, itâs embarrassing that at your age youâre acting so immature,â Ari gave the woman a deadpan stare. âLetâs clear up, too, that your inappropriate work clothes arenât going to attract the attention of the CEOs.â
âJust leave us alone,â you breathed out, not phased by Iseulâs words. âYou clearly are too bored that youâre not minding your own business.â
âYou better watch the way you speak to your elders, y/n,â Minjun seethed at you and the way you spoke to Iseul.
âAgain, emphasis on the âeldersâ,â Ari smiled sarcastically before grabbing your arm and leading you away. You got stopped, though, when Minjun grabbed your arm rather harshly, his bitten off nails digging into the flesh of your arm.
âYouâre nothing here,â he spat out. âThis business isnât for girls that look like you. You and your friend here, if you keep talking to us with such disrespect, I will take this to the CEOs.â
âAct your age,â you glared at him, pulling your arm away from his grip. You and Ari walked away while your dearest friend rubbed the damaged skin. âHe really said this business as if we didnât work on trading products.â
âThey probably donât even realize the stupid words that escape their lips,â Ari shook her head. âBut, anyway, with her and his horrible personality, they wonât wonât get anyone.â
âMinjun is so whipped for her,â you pointed out and Ari hummed at your words. âIt makes me feel bad when he gets treated badly by her but, when he says stupid stuff like right now, I donât feel bad. Does that make me a bad person?â
Ari smiled at how kind you were. It was the best and worst trait of yours. You really needed to be the badass woman she saw when you were at the club and a guy tried groping you.
Letâs just say, the guy ended up with a nose that his girlfriend, who attacked you instead, had to pay for.
âI love you so much,â Ari spoke, âbut donât feel bad for a douchebag like him. He put himself in that situation, lovely.â
You hummed in agreement as you sat down by your desk, Ari sitting next to you.
âAre you staying later by the way?â You asked her and she shook her head, sighing in relief.
âThank goodness I donât,â she breathed out, placing her hands behind her head. âFor the first time, I am going home early.â
âLucky,â you pouted. âIâm staying late.â
âPoor you.â
She laughed at your pain before you two started on work, working on the things you needed to in order to get out of work quickly.
It wasnât long before you and your supervisor, Eunji, were the only ones left in the building, both of you giving each other assignments once in a while while bringing one another food or water.
âY/n!â Eunji spoke loudly from her office room, glancing down at her watch while her bag was over her shoulder and her jacket was placed on her forearm. âHey, I have to pick up my son from my mother-in-lawâs. The documents that you are finishing need to be handed to Mr. Park by 7. His floor is second to last and his assistant is there, tell her about the documents, and sheâll let you hand them to him. I have a folder on my desk and itâs the yellow one. And thatâs about it. Can you do that?â
She looked at you and you processed the information before nodding. âDonât worry. Iâll have them turned in before that.â
She smiled at you. âThank you so much. I wouldnât have asked you for this but the documents are important. My son was just feeling fussy so I have to pick him up.â
âDonât worry, Eunji,â you playfully rolled your eyes at her. âNo, go. Iâm okay doing this.â
âCall me if you forgot what documents you need to turn in.â
âI will.â
You sighed as soon as she got into the elevator, looking around the building as the sunset came through the windows, alerting you of the time.
You looked down at the documents again after putting music on and pursed your lips before puffing your cheeks.
You really needed to sleep early.
After 20 minutes passed, you glanced at the time. 6:33. You grabbed what you needed before heading towards Eunjiâs office, grabbing the yellow documents she told you to get on top of her desk the best that you could since you had your bag and your bottle in hand.
Walking to the elevator, you moved around in the uncomfortable flats that were starting to hurt your feet since you had been walking around in the beginning of work, being told to do this or that by Iseul. After all, you couldnât say no since she only got the job because of her persistent mother who donated so much to the company.
You ignored the figure next to you and puffed your cheeks.
âSecond to last floor,â you mumbled to yourself, glancing at the buttons. You pressed on the one you needed to press and shifted to one foot to another. You felt the arm of the man next to you nudge you and you cleared your throat softly, gulping.
âDo you need any help with those?â He asked you and you shook your head, ignoring the way you could see how attractive he was out of the corner of your eye.
âIâm okay,â you breathed out, staring at him. God, he was so beautiful. His lips were parted and the way his gaze burned holes into your head made you shiver internally. âItâll be quick before I have to turn these in.â
âOh, who are you giving those to?â He asked you, grabbing your bottle away from your hand, your protests falling to deaf ears.
âJust one of my bosses,â you answered, glancing at him before looking away. You looked at the numbers on the elevator moving. âActually, will it be okay if you can grab my bag? Itâs hurting my shoulder and I donât want to wrinkle these papers.â
âOf course.â
Grabbing your bag, you two stood in silence and you tried your hardest to ignore the way his fingers were adorned with rings.
When the elevator pinged, you looked up to see the doors opening. You walked towards the pregnant assistant who was standing up to get a drink, too preoccupied with making sure the documents got turned in on time you didnât notice the man getting off the same floor. You smiled at the assistant.
âHi, I came to drop off some documents for Mr. Park,â you breathed out, still not believing who you were delivering the documents for. âMy supervisor, Eunji, had to leave early so she told me to bring these up.â
The assistant smiled back at you, but her eyes slightly widened at the man behind you, waiting. He placed his finger on his lips, shushing the words to come next and she did.
The assistant grabbed the documents and checked your work ID, making sure you were a worker and not a random person who got into the building unexpectedly. It wouldnât be the first time.
âYou can go in.â
You bowed your head at her, thanking her. You turned around and bumped into the man in the elevator and chuckled awkwardly.
âSorry, um, I just need to pass by you to go to my bossâs office,â you explained and he looked down at you, a ghost of a smile on his lips.
âCome in,â he instructed, opening the door. You eyed him and hoped, wished, it wasnât Mr. Park. You wished he was actually inside the office, working and not the man beside you.
You breathed in and walked in hoping your awkwardness wouldnât course through your body, and much to your dismay, Mr. Park was actually the man holding your bag and bottle.
âI can grab thatââ Your free hand immediately went to grab your things, but Mr. Park waved you off, placing it on the couch he had in his office. Was it even an office? It looked like a whole living room.
âWhat happened to Eunji?â The man spoke as soon as you closed the door behind you. He looked at you and you tried hiding the way your breath hitched in your throat. He was even more beautiful the more you looked at him.
You cleared your throat. âShe said she had to go pick up her son from her mother in lawâs.â
He nodded and looked at you intensely, his gaze burning holes throughout your body. You walked toward him, handing him the documents.
He hummed and grabbed them, his fingertips brushing against the skin of your hand, a surge of goosebumps rising on your arm.
He looked at the documents before fully looking at you, his gaze dropping down your body subtlety that you yourself didnât even notice since you wanted to get out.
He surprised you, though, once his fingers reached out to grab your arm. His thumb ran itself over the skin where Minjunâs fingers left a bruise, some skin having peeled off, too, but not to the point where you bled.
âWho did this?â He mumbled to you, standing up from his chair to stand in front of you.
You debated whether you should tell him, but you knew he wouldnât believe you once he tried doing something about Minjun. After all, Minjun was close to Iseul and she had more power than you. You could look like a fool and youâd be fired.
âUm, I did it?â You mentally facepalmed yourself at your tone before closing your eyes and sighing.
He chuckled at your words before glancing at you. He turned around and grabbed a kit nearby, grabbing some things.
âI know itâs not bleeding,â he said, âbut Iâd rather clean it and put the bandaid on.â
âOh, you donât have to, Mr. Park,â you tried to wave him off but he gripped your arm, wiping the skin with an antiseptic wipe.
âI donât mind, y/n, right?â He looked at you and you nodded and he arched an eyebrow, grabbing a bandaid. âWords.â
âUm, yes, Mr. Park.â
He smiled at your words. âBetter.â You looked down at the way he placed a bandaid on your arm and he snorted at the designs. âHope you like it.â
You looked at it and smiled in amusement, the bandaid having been one of Barbie. You chuckled just like he did, eyeing it before turning to look back at him.
âThank you,â you bowed your head and he hummed before grabbing another and giving it to you.
âHere, have it,â he said. âIâm pretty sure all of them are Barbie so, enjoy one. If you get hurt and you want a pretty bandaid, come see me.â
âThank you again, Mr. Park,â you bowed again before walking away, grabbing onto your things.
âDonât hesitate to come up here if you want to tell me who did that to you,â he spoke up, causing you to freeze in your steps. You opened the door. âI donât tolerate harassment.â
You nodded. âIâll tell you. Thank you.â
âBye, y/n.â
âBye, Mr. Park.â

âSo, he just took care of that for you?â Ari looked at the bandaid in shock, clearly still processing the fact that you had met one of your CEOs. âHe even knows how beautiful you are.â
You rolled your eyes. âShut up.â
âIâm being serious, y/n,â she swatted your arm, looking at you with wide eyes. âIf I go up there right now with a scratch, Iâm sure he would just ignore me.â
âNot true.â
âUh, scratch me!â She exclaimed, sticking her arm out. You raised an eyebrow at her, glancing at her and then down at her arm.
âI am not hurting you.â
âYouâre gonna hurt me,â she said, furrowing her eyebrows. âI will do anything to prove my point.â
âOh my god, Iâm not gonna even get to scratch you,â you crossed your arms as you stared at your friend, âespecially if Iâm doing it on purpose.â
âHmmâŚâ
âThose pants look tight on you,â you two turned to look at Iseul who came forward, a coffee in her hand. Ari smiled at her presence for the first time.
âHey, Iseul,â Ari started, âdid you gain weight?â
Iseulâs head snapped up to look at her and you turned around to grab your coffee, knowing fully well you couldnât do much to stop your friend. You just stood back and will step in if necessary.
âExcuse me?â The woman asked with attitude seeping through her words. âYou shouldnât be talking to me that way, I will have you fired.â
âIâm just saying,â Ari shrugged. âYouâve been bullying, y/n, for her weight but maybe itâs because youâre projecting.â
Ari tried to hide her smile at coming to feel Iseul grab her arm. She really did take this serious.
âLeave me the fuck alone, Ari.â
Iseulâs fingernails did dig themselves into the girlâs arm, blood coming out of the wound. You sighed and grabbed your friendâs arms as soon as the other woman left.
âYouâre bleeding, you idiot,â you breathed out, about to grab a napkin if it werenât for Ari immediately moving away from your grip.
âIâm going to ask Eunji if she has documents to take up.â
Ari left quickly towards Eunji, ignoring the womanâs concern over her evident wound. Ari came out with documents and sent you a thumbs up, heading towards the elevator. You shook your head and sat on the chair by your desk, watching the elevator stop on the floor you were at yesterday.
It didnât take less than five minutes for Ari to come down, a grin on her face. You stared at her, unfazed, before your eyes came to set on her arm.
âHe didnât take care of me like he did to you yesterday,â she smiled triumphantly, like as if she did something amazing. Her face then morphed into one of pain when she finally registered her wound. âFuck, give me a bandaid.â
You already had it out, knowing she was already going to ask for it. She smiled before you two went back to work, doing the assignments due.
In the meantime, Jimin Park sat by his desk, thinking about you.
In fact, he didnât know why he was thinking about you. He never payed attention to any of the people who worked for him and the others, but why did he help you yesterday?
There was something about you. And it wasnât the way your pants fit on your figure and the way the blouse looked so pretty on you. You were attractive, but those eyes of yours who looked at him in a way many didnât look at him.
Every woman heâs come across immediately came onto him. Even people who worked for him. Boundaries were never set and they only saw him as an attractive man who they assumed can win over.
They would sit on his lap like he couldnât say no. His silence, in their mind, was an invitation. And he hated being seen as an object.
So, when your innocent self came into the room, he noticed. He noticed the way you awkwardly stood and looked around, the way you only handed him documents, and he knew that you were there for innocent matters.
While he was thinking about you, a knock was heard from his door, and he looked down at his papers.
The door opened and he looked up before coming across a woman that pursed her lips, documents in hand. He looked back down, sticking his hand out, and feeling the documents she gave him on the palm of his hand. She stood by his desk, waiting for him to speak.
âIs there anything you need?â He asked, his gaze not leaving his work.
âNo, sir. Is there anything you need?â
He glanced to the woman with a deadpan expression and shook his head. âYou can go.â
She nodded and bowed, leaving, but he noticed the wound on her arm.
She could put a bandaid on her own arm.
