i know i said i was against ever bringing it back, but past me can suck a potato.

What is it?

Kindergala is, in short, a fandom event initially started by me and @dontjinxx and the [original post] was posted by @charliefqirie on their askblog!

The gala is a roleplaying event here on Tumblr, done via art and/or writing. It's a fancy two month-long party focused on the characters of Kindergarten 1 & 2 (and 3!), combined with the classic multiverse shenanigans!

This event is based on what askblogs back in the early 2010s would do with each other, where there would be a similar event held in their fandom. Different blogs could ask each other out, almost like a "prom night" sort of thing. Some characters within one blog could come to the prom as a couple, and it'd be a whole arc in their blog's plotline! In 2020, the Kindergala had this mostly in mind, so it was admittedly more limited to artists in the fandom-- but I'd like it to be more inclusive this year, and welcome more writers to this event as well!!

It was solely an askblog-specific event, but Jinx and I thought it'd be fun to bring that into this fandom-- not just for askblogs, but for everyone to be able to participate!

Obviously since the characters in canon are five-year-olds, it won't be a prom, per se, which is why it's stylized as a gala instead (because it is SO funny to imagine setting loose a bunch of feral children in a supposedly fancy party setting, and very few being normal while the rest of them literally burn the place down).

How does it work?

As mentioned above, the roleplaying aspect is done by either art and/or writing! You interact with other partygoers on your tumblr blogs, by drawing something, or writing something for the interaction.

Start an interaction by: sending an ask to the person you want to interact with (make sure your inboxes are open for this!) or you can make a post and @ someone participating in the gala. You can also private message someone and plan out what you want to do for an interaction before actually starting one with them! Of course, you don’t have to feel obligated to talk to other people and can simply do gala stuff with only your own characters if you just want to do that.

For art: you can format your posts in literally any way you like! You can draw just your character reacting to whatever is happening in the interaction; or you can draw an entire scene including other people in the gala! You can post sketches without any "finished" elements like colouring or shading, or you can draw completely finished artworks for this! You can post one picture in your interactions, or multiple panels-- however many you want! You can draw in a comic format where the words are included in the art, or you can utilize Tumblr's text features and post in a way similar to CNCF updates. Whatever you're comfortable with is fine!

For writing: the same thing for art applies to this! Any format is fine, as long as you're having fun! You can write just a sentence, or multiple paragraphs! You can use action notations like *blinks* or *walks toward you*, or write in a more literary way like what you'd find in a published novel! You can include pictures dispersed into your writing, or you can leave it as only text! You can even use "fancy" text formatting similar to people in the Tumblr roleplay community, or plain text [example].

What characters are allowed?

All characters from Kindergarten 1, 2, and 3 are welcome! You can bring characters that adhere to canon (your own versions of the kg characters), or characters who are are canon-divergent, OCs, or are from any AUs!

If you want to use an AU that isn't your own, please ask the AU creator if they're okay with their characters being used for this first.

Doubles are also welcome, as this is a multiverse party-- so no need to worry about your favourite character being "taken" for this! Everyone interprets and portrays the same character differently, after all, so that just adds more interesting ways to interact with other partygoers!

How long will this event last?

From the start of September to the end of October (September 1st to October 31st). You have plenty of time to mingle during the gala, so please don't feel pressured to post something every day-- especially if you're busy during school!

Keep in mind that this event is just for fun and is a "participate only if you can and want to" thing! I promise you, no one will be upset at you for not doing more if you're unable to do so. Take care of yourselves first and foremost!

Are ships allowed?

Absolutely! You can ship your own characters together, or form a ship between your own and other people’s characters if they want to do that!

That being said: pedophilia and incest are absolutely NOT allowed, and you are not welcome to participate if you plan to do gross things.

Dress code?

The same as the previous Kindergala: Something fancy and formal! (You don't actually have to adhere to that if your characters are the type to be uncomfortable with formalwear and absolutely refuse to get dressed up, it's not a hard rule and ur not gonna get kicked out or anything if you don't follow lol)

But there's also a twist to this year's Kindergala-- It's gonna have a masquerade theme! Make sure to at least design wear a fun mask to the gala this year!!

RULES:

Be nice to your fellow creators/kindergarten fans! It’s fine if your characters have conflicts, but keep your personal drama out of the event.

Remember that this is all for fun! We just want to have a cool event where our AUs and blogs have a good time, so try to keep that in mind and don’t take things too seriously.

General manners and decency apply!! Respect other people and their characters.

!!! If you receive anon hate during this event !!! Please simply ignore the hateful ask. Report and block the anon, and then immediately delete the ask. Do not answer it. Please do not take to heart whatever nasty, untrue thing is said about you. People like that only want attention and ragebaited reactions, so don't give it to them. Take care of yourselves and your mental wellbeing. Remember that no matter what negativity is spouted your way, that people love you and you are worth caring for.

No NSFW or problematic ships (minor/adult, huge age gaps, siblings, you get the point)

Any askblog, AU, or kindergarten fan blog can show up as long as the rules are followed.

(For askblogs) Not considered canon unless otherwise specified by blog. This is just for fun! If you feel okay with doing it, you can have your AU show up without explaining how they’re there. If you have a story/plotline going on, you can still bring your characters in if you want and it doesn't have to be canon to your plot.

If you interact with a blog, @ them or message them so that they know you’ve interacted with them!

Don’t overwhelm yourselves! Don’t feel pressured to do anything, bring characters, or interact with anybody if you don't actually want to do it.

Gore, blood, death, and stuff of that nature isn’t allowed for the sake of fun and comfort.

Monster/creature/experiment type of characters are allowed as long as it’s tagged appropriately! (body horror, flashing (in case of epilepsy/seizure inducing gifs), eye strain, etc)

Don’t kill anyone’s character, or kill off your own character. Yes, it happens in the actual Kindergarten games, but this event is not the place for that. See the below rule.

Character conflicts are fine, but try to limit it to arguing and not actual fighting. Essentially no violence.

You can draw or write for the gala. Or both! And/or switch at any time, if you're more comfortable with something else, or if you get busy and only have time to do one thing and not the other.

You can have as many characters as you feel comfortable portraying and are able to handle, including a few from multiple AUs you have.

Characters should either be from your own blog/AU or be okay with the other creators of that blog/AU to bring.

Characters can ask out characters from their own AU to the gala, or other AUs (make sure that if it’s romantic, nothing is age inappropriate), and you don’t have to have your characters ask anyone out to participate.

The gala is technically a formal event, but you don’t have to draw your characters in formal wear.

You can format your posts however you want! (example: showing multiple of your AUs in one post, sketches or fully coloured/shaded, digital or traditional, whether you type or draw dialogue)

If you want your character to do something for the gala (perform on stage, catering, bouncer) you can. There can be multiples of these kinds of jobs and there's no need to ask me for permission to have your character do these things! Just go for it!!!! :D

If you need to drop out or have a character leave, just try to make a post in the gala tag saying so! This is so people won’t keep interacting with you/your characters when you can’t respond. You can drop out at any time you feel it's necessary.

You don’t have to make posts about the gala every day the gala is going on! Don’t strain yourself or feel like you have to do anything at all.

You can put as much or as little detail into your posts as you want!

If someone wants to draw your character and they need a reference, try to provide it or give a description.

Try not to take complete control of other’s characters in your posts! If you want to portray someone else’s character in your post, talk to the owner of the character or work it so you only control your own character.

Doing just sketches for the gala is fine! You don’t have to make full-on Van Gogh drawings. (But if you really want to go for it, sure, just don’t overwork yourself)

The background of the gala is an endless white void. This is to make it easier for people to draw. You can draw a few decorations if that’s what you want, though, or whatever you imagine the gala to look like!

I seem to be the only one adding facial hair to the adult versions of the boys in Kindergarten. To be more precise, everyone I've seen either doesn't do facial hair at all, or only does it for one or two characters, and most of the time it's a little stubble. In my Cleavers Cult, only Felix is clean-shaven
