omg first of all thank you for loving ephemeral !!! 💞💓💘 and second, i would love to do a part 2 !!! even as i was writing it i was thinking, “hmm, this sounds like the beginning of a longer fic” but i wanted to post what i have now first XD

i do have a few ideas of what i might include for part 2 though !! 😊 yes, they’ll definitely be a bit older and i might do a couple timeskips to show how they’ve changed over the years, but i won’t say any more about what else i have in mind 🤫

for you and boyfriend!jisung, holding hands is a big no-no. there’s something about the act that makes both of you kind of nervous — a mix of anticipation and shyness, much like the feeling that comes right before stepping barefoot onto sand wetted by the ocean.

but recently, it’s gotten more and more difficult for jisung to restrain himself from brushing his hand against yours. this morning, as the two of you are walking to school in the winter weather, your hand is just so tiny, dwarfed by your sweater sleeves that fall midway to your fingertips...

as the wind picks up, he notices that you rub your hands together to generate some heat. you breathe on them afterwards, the air around your mouth curling into mist, and you smile.

from behind his coat collar, jisung smiles, too. he finds himself biting his bottom lip to conceal his grin. it’s the little things that make you happy, and it’s the little things about you that jisung loves.

something similar to courage rises in him, and with a burst of impulsiveness, he takes your hand in his, slipping them both into his jacket pocket.

you stare up at him, eyes wide, and he realizes that he may have just made a terrible mistake. “oh —” he begins to pull your hand out, embarrassed that he didn’t think things through. “but if you don’t want to — sorry, i forgot to ask —”

“no, no it’s okay.” you keep your hand in his pocket, allowing the heat of the fabric to warm your fingers. “thank you.”

“well —” he stammers out a bad excuse. “um, you looked cold.”

the general positioning of your arms forces you to walk more closely next to each other, shoulders bumping occasionally. the two of you slow to a stop, waiting to cross an intersection, and jisung uses that pause to spare a glance at you.

you’re trying to see your breath again, exhaling in small puffs that creates fog in the air in front of you. after one particularly clear breath of mist, you catch his eye, grinning proudly as if to say, yes, i did that, and you give his hand a small squeeze, lacing your fingers with his.

jisung has to look away so you don’t see him smiling like an idiot. the winter chill blows over his face, and the redness from his nose spreads across his cheeks, all the way to his ears.

but if anyone asks about it, at least he can blame it on the cold.
