exactly. this is thing that’s been going on forever and it needs to stop.

Let’s talk about Y/N fanfiction here in the kpop side of tumblr, shall we? (this is something that will be helpful to writers i promise!)

(first of all, yes i know that my blog is mainly alt subculture shit, but i still like to read things about groups that i liked when i had my 5 year kpop fase, deal with that)

i’ve been scrolling a lot through the “x group one shot” tags here for the past month and i’ve read almost everything that seemed interesting to me, from ships to Y/N, and i’ve noticed a pattern.

i know that some of you might not realize it while writing but…… y/n is suppose to be fitting for every individual that reads a story.

i’m not talking about things like “member x fem!reader” or “member x male!reader” and also “member x gender neutral!reader”, i’m talking about assigning characteristics to the Y/N character that doesn’t make any sense.

like, for exemple:

i was reading a story this week and at a certain point a sister of y/n was mentioned, and her name was chaeryong.

okay, what is weird about that? you might ask

well, why would i, a white latina person, have a korean-named sister? why would i have parents named mina and minho in these stories when i am… white latina?

you see where i am going?

also, physical characteristics… “i pinned my straight black hair up, put on my favorite orange crop top that had a nice contrast to my pale skin” okay, but the person reading your story might be blonde or even be dark skinned.

the whole point of an Y/N fiction is to be inclusive to the person reading it, and sometimes i feel like writers don’t take that into account. so instead of letting this get brushed off i thought i might share these views with you guys, so not only you can improve your writing to create amazing stories, but to also make your readers feel represented!
