I was just about to spiral into a bad panic attack, and my boyfriend goes "Stick an ice cube in your mouth." I'm not really sure where he got the idea, and I kinda laughed at it because I didn't see how it would help, but he was insistent. So I did it.

And now I'm on my second cube, because it worked.

I found out that the new “Dolittle” remake was out on DVD, so I’ve been watching it, and it has the exact same bonkers, threadless, bizarre energy as the original Rex Harrison Dolittle film but like, somehow rotated 90 degrees. Robert Downey Junior is simultaneously trying to bring depth and pathos to his portrayal of a grieving obsessive-compulsive widower and trying to make a children’s film about a dude who talks to animals. In a Welsh accent. (Well. For a given value of Welsh. It goes roaming.)

There’s an entirely unnecessary animated opening exposition dump. There’s a lion cub who says “experience emotional vulnerability”. There’s a squirrel with a vengeance arc. 

And then Michael Sheen shows up looking like this. 

I am 22 minutes into this movie. 

Antonio Banderas hasn’t even appeared yet. But you know what has? A running joke about a duck that doesn’t know what forceps are. The duck is voiced by Octavia Spencer.
