This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.

A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!

Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.

All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.

Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!

Hi.

It has been… a very back-and-forth internal debate about whether or not I should do this, but my anxiety has been so through the roof that I feel I kind of have to swallow my pride and ask for any potential assistance.

Without disclosing too much (though I’d be willing to through DMs, if it’s needed), I am going through a messy break-up and not being given any time whatsoever to think about short-term arrangements, much less long-term ones, or even process the actual breaking up part. Currently I’m in Florida, and “home” is roughly 1800 miles (2900km) away in Colorado. I’m being not just pushed out, but rushed out, and I’ve been given pretty much no choice but to go and crash at a friend’s place in Arkansas come the 22nd, travelling there by bus.

I would be leaving behind everything that can’t fit in the suitcase and backpack I can bring—most notably my cat, who is the only pet of several I have begged to keep after this whole mess—with the promise of having stuff “shipped” to me and the implication that I won’t see my cat again, which I would like to prevent by being able to leave on my own. If that’s not possible, my main concern, then, is at least being able to get from Arkansas to Colorado, so I can figure it out from there with some IRL help.

80-90 percent of the money spent by the U.S. in Afghanistan found its way back to the U.S. via contracts with private military companies and other corporations. The corruption is MUCH closer to home than Maddow thinks. It’s in the United States.

I really hope that this emerging trend of victim blaming Afghanistan dies a swift death, before it becomes the accepted narrative. American politics are laden with corruption. How dare anyone blame Afghanistan for the corruption that America, the country where corporations are people, brought with it to Afghanistan.

The U.S. and her allies were in complete control of Afghanistan during the 20 year occupation. How did opioid production increase under the watchful eye of the U.S. military?

Does anyone remember how well Dick Cheney’s company, Halliburton, did after the war in Iraq? Yet somehow it’s always the same old narrative over and over: “We are the good guys. We went in there to try to help those poor backwards people, but their government was so corrupt that in the end, we couldn’t help them. (but at least we were able to turn a profit on their oil and other natural resources.)”

Pushing the narrative of blaming the “corrupt Afghan government” is a naked act of projection, and ultimately whitewashing.

It’s slick propaganda to flip blame & responsibility, away from the perpetrators of war onto the victims of war.

Remember, none of the September 11 hijackers were from Afghanistan. Not a single one. And every U.S. president from George W. Bush onwards has known this fact. America started the war-for-oil based on a George Bush lie. To bolster his political standing as a “successful war president”.

Now that’s corruption.

"We dont want refugees coming to this country" buddy your country (any country that has had a military presence in Afghanistan in the last 20 years) is the one who made the refugees. If you dont want refugees then perhaps refrain from making them.

"But refugees are expensive" the us has spent $300 million per day for the last 20 years on their war in Afghanistan. Thats trillions of dollars, all up. Conversely, it costs around $15,000 USD to to settle a single refugee and they then traditionally make far more money for their new country by generating taxes than was needed to settle them in the first place. The US could afford to settle 20,000 refugees per day for 20 years, and you would only just break even on the amount of money you've spent in Afghanistan. Other countries have spent far less than America, but can still afford,, many times over, the $10-15 thousand it costs to settle a single refugee.

"But refugees threaten the culture of my country." Hey. Come here. Lean in closer. Countries like America, Australia, loads of parts of Europe? Only have the culture we have now because of immigrants. Theres loads of immigrants in your country already, and they don't "ruin" anything; they add to the culture. You're just xenophobic and racist.

"But they'll bring Bad Muslim Law here" bro they are literally fleeing from the goddamn fucking Taliban. You think if they were pro-stoning women in the street that they would be fleeing the people who are pro-stoning women in the street?? Shut your racist ass up.

"But islam is a bad religion" no it isn't. There are bad muslim people, sure, but hey, guess what? There's a shittonne of bad Christians, too, so "terrible awful human being who subscribes to an extreme view of [religion] but doesn't actually speak for the whole [religious] community" is not a thing thats restricted solely to Muslims. Look up the atrocities that have been committed in the name of Christianity. There are a lot.

You would deny hundreds of thousands of terrified people the opportunity to not be victims of the Taliban, because you're scared one of them might be a terrorist? When our kids can look up any kind of bullshit on the internet and decide to go to school with a knife? When we have white folk who were born and bred here who commit crimes that, were they committed by a brown person, would be called an act of terror? Get your shit together.

In summary: every single country that's had a hand in the Afghan war should be accepting unlimited numbers of refugees from Afghanistan.

Fellow UK people: please consider signing this petition in support of refugees/against the Tories’ anti-refugee/anti-immigration politices. Especially important now in the wake of what’s happening in Afghanistan and the fact that the UK is being so grotesquely ungenerous about letting refugees from there in (which is just monstrous considering our history in that region, long long prior to 2001).

I hope this information gets around as much as the post I made about cold weather dressing - this is just as important, just in the other direction.

I was guilty of not having enough carriers for all of my animals - I’ve since rectified that.

I also ordered respirators today.  They aren’t that expensive!  You can get them on the Evil Site of Evil for ~20 and up.  Make sure they either come with the filter pads, or you get some.  It’s not always standard.

Some racist asshole run a muslim family down with his pick-up truck this afternoon in London (Ontario), killing four and leaving only one family member alive. The terrorist was a 20-year old islamophobic dude who targeted muslims and wanted to kill as many of them as possible; when the police arrested him, he was wearing body armor, he had intended to commit more than just murders. There's a 9-year old who lost his family and is in the hospital right now. It's heartbreaking.
