My favorite cosplayer as Griffith!

You Might Have Noticed That The Sword Im Posing With Is Not A Cosplay Prop, But An Actual Steel Weapon

You might have noticed that the sword I’m posing with is not a cosplay prop, but an actual steel weapon - a parade saber that used to belong to my great-great-grandfather. The thing is, while working on Griffith, Shunak and I were too busy stressing over the armor that we completely forgot that he needs a sword as well - until a day before the convention, when it was way too late to start making one. After an epic “oh crap”, my eyes fell on the wall in my room where all the decorative weaponry hangs (and yes, there is such a wall in my room). I realized that a 19th century Austro-Hungarian parade saber could totally pass for a Midland rapier - so that’s how Griffith got his sword. Of course, even though the saber’s old and blunt, it’s still a real weapon so I cannot wear it to any other conventions than the ones that I organize, where I can bend the rules a little bit if I have to - the perks of being the boss!

That’s not the first time I used a piece of family heirloom for costuming. Parts of Morrigan’s Inquisition necklace come from the epaulets of my great-grandfather’s 1920s parade uniform. The uniform was completely ruined, rotten and moth-eaten, so my grandmother wanted to throw it away, but I managed to salvage some bits and pieces. Using parts of family history for my projects makes them feel very personal and special, giving them “soul” in a way…

After two AMVs that use clips from the movie trilogy, here’s one that celebrates the old TV series. And it’s one damn good AMV - for years, I used it instead of a trailer when I tried to convince people to watch “Berserk” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqy2CrstcTQ
