HERMIT A DAY MAY - DAY 21
BDoubleO100 x Stand Still, Stay Silent

For Bdubs I chose the webcomic Stand Still, Stay Silent!
I chose this comic for BDubs because this comic takes place mostly in forested wilderness and has some of the most beautifully painted backgrounds I have ever seen in anything. I'm sure I don't need to explain why I wanted to represent BDubs with that.
I love the way this one turned out and I put a lot of effort into it, but it pales in comparison to how skillfully Minna Sundberg plays with light and shadow to make textured, atmospheric settings for her story.
While the comic is very beautiful, it is a post-apocalyptic story and does feature some disturbing imagery so discretion is advised.

(Gamers Outreach, you know what to do!)
Stand Still, Stay Silent is a story which takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Scandanavia. The comic heavily draws from Scandanavian mythology.
The story opens with the world succumbing to a strange pandemic. A century later, humans hide in reinforced settlements to protect them from the "silent world" - the wilderness outside their settlements, which is home to plague infected creatures.
The story follows a misfit group of humans as they explore this wilderness to gain a deeper understanding of their hazardous world. Also the art is absolutely gorgeous.

Just your average stunning panel from this comic.

The wilderness in this story is as much a character as the characters themselves.

JoeHillsTSD x Where the Sidewalk Ends

For Joe Hills I chose Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein!
I loved this book along with A Light in the Attic when I was a kid. It was one of my earliest exposures to poetry and since Joe is a poet himself, I thought this would suit them well!
In addition to doing a drawing for Joe, I also tried my hand at an original Joe Hills poem in the style of Silverstein. Writing poetry is pretty far outside of my usual wheelhouse, so I hope it turned out suitably Silverstein-esque! I'm proud of it regardless. :)
Here is the text of the poem:
-
JOE HILLS
A puppet is Juppet
A felt little guy
That felt is swell
And svelte
And blue as the sky.
But try as I might
I can't help but think
All that felt
Must swelt
In a Nashville July!

(Happy Hermitcraft stream weekend! A fine weekend to donate to Gamer's Outreach)
Where the Sidewalk Ends is a 1970s book of poetry by Shel Silverstein. Each poem is accompanied by a whimsical ink drawing also done by Silverstein.
The poetry is fantastical and imaginative, often written from a child-like perspective. Though the poetry sometimes touches on darker themes, it does so from a thoughtful place and the collection is enjoyable for people of all ages.
Even if you aren't someone who likes poetry, I highly recommend picking up Where the Sidewalk Ends or A Light in the Attic. They are both wonderful.
Style references:

Every poem in the book has a cute drawing to accompany it. Here is the poem from the above image:
THE ACROBATS
I'll swing
By my ankles,
She'll cling
To your knees
As you hang
By your nose
From a high-up
Trapeze.
But just one thing, please,
As we float through the breeze-
Don't sneeze.

The illustrations for Where the Sidewalk Ends are whimsical with sparse, stippled shading and cartoonish characters

The lineart of these drawings is thick and a little messy but still easily readable even when the subject of the drawings is unusual (which is pretty much all of them)

have a joe hills juppet

Day 18: Joe Hills
Here's Joe Hills, or really its a jhost and a juppet! I imagine that he'd be a sort of in-game hint guide, where he could give you hints on where to go next or when you can find hidden/secret items. However, they would all be in the form of riddles and poems! >:)

Iskall85 x Adventure Time

For Iskall I chose Adventure Time! Iskall brings a lot of fun, mischievous energy to the server which I think matches the tone of the show well. Plus, he famously created the dungeon looting game Vault Hunters and what do adventurers do if not break into dungeons for sweet loot?
I had a lot of fun with his pose and he is absolutely gonna get you with that axe. Start running!

(Donating to Gamers Outreach as well would be seriously mathematical of you.)
Adventure Time is a fantasy/adventure cartoon from 2010. The show follows a boy named Finn the Human and his adoptive brother, Jake the Dog, who is a talking dog with some shapeshifting abilities (he can change size and shape but stays recognizably Jake). The two go on adventures across the Land of Ooo in their quest to be radical adventuring heroes.
During their adventures they befriend people from the Candy Kingdon (they are people made out of candy), hang out with a Vampire Queen, and save princesses from kingdoms all across the land that are routinely kidnapped by the seemingly villainous but often fairly harmless Ice King (he is doing his best).
It is hard to describe this show to someone who hasn't seen it. The show is colorful and wacky, and the storylines are perpetually yes and-ing themselves so the boys end up in a lot of whimsical, often downright surreal, scenarios. The episodes are usually light-hearted, but there is a deeper, serious premise underneath that is slowly revealed as the show goes on, which I think takes the whole cartoon to another level. If you haven't seen it, and you like weird, funny stuff, go watch it!
Also pinging @hermitadaymay in case the tags decide not to work again.
