I Am Not My Best Friends Favorite

I am not my best friend’s favorite

I am quite clingy

I can understand that, I think.

I just want to be her favorite.

She's my best friend you see,

I might not be hers...

When she gives me gifts I smile,

I don't think others get her gifts.

But others get phone calls and texts,

and I strive to get a few extra sentences outside of class.

I am jealous of the others

I guess that's the word.

But that's an ugly word, and my feelings are so lovely.

I have never had a sister,

and I wouldn't say she's mine.

We don't argue,

maybe we should.

If I got angry I could get some attention.

It's really not her fault at all,

I have never been one to be treasured.

She had for a bit,

treated me like the sun.

Now that's all over,

but I'm proud of her.

She has so many friends,

when I met her there were only some.

Maybe this is just who I am,

that's ok.

I can try and watch as you walk away,

as long as you're smiling as you go.
