I've Recently Gone Back To My "binge (analog) Horror Series On YouTube Until I've Gotten So Submerged

I've recently gone back to my "binge (analog) horror series on YouTube until I've gotten so submerged I have lost my sense of self" roots, so here's my thoughts so far about every series I've seen.

Marble Hornets = The classic of classics. If you're my age, you'll immediately know what you're looking at.

Local58 = Sugar pills to prep you for bigger feasts. The videos are short but so captivating.

MISTER MANTICORE = 1-2-7-3, life is NOT marching on in Rockefeller street. Or museums. Seriously, do not go to museums after this.

ALEXKANSAS = Really goes hand-in-hand with MISTER MANTICORE, almost a package deal. You will never look at the weird architecture you save on your Pinterest boards normally again.

The Smile Files = It's what you expect. Not much else to say here.

this place is not happy = If you get recommended videos of dead animals still moving after this, run.

The Volgun = You do not recognize the bodies in the water. You do not recognize the bodies in the water. You do not

The Walten Files = Modern classic, colorful and twisted. Also the character designs remind me of Raggedy Ann, so that's an extra point.

The Mandela Catalogues = After this you'll either need a change of trousers or to visit your local church. Both are a terrible idea.

Petscop = It's like watching your older siblings play the Wii when it's been your turn for over an hour, except you don't want to play anymore.

OmegaMart = O-O-O-OMEGA MART! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S IN STORE FOR YOU!

I always hate it when growing up is portrayed as "you figured everything out and now everything can continue being great". the show portrayed personal relationships realistically evolving over time and I appreciate that

// amphibia finale spoilers

I’ve been seeing a lot of the whole “BAD WRITING!! ANNE WOULD NEVER LEAVE SPRIG AND HER FOUND FAMILY. SASHA, ANNE AND MARCY WOULD NEVER GROW APART” thing circulating around the finale criticism and my take is that this is absolutely not bad writing. It’s simply not the thing that some people wanted to hear.

There’s comfort in escapism. There’s comfort in thinking you’ll keep in close contact with your friends/surrogate families forever. There’s comfort in the thought that Sprig would be able to continue to grow up with Anne.

But that’s not the point.

Amphibia, above all, is a story about change. About how people can get hurt because of their refusal to do so and how change isn’t always a bad thing. The fact that they are separated doesn’t make their bond weaker. Just because they don’t talk/can’t talk doesn’t mean that they love each other any less or their friendship didn’t mean enough to them. It’s just life. It’s a hard, hard pill to swallow but it’s true.

They met in the crossroads and their lives were impacted and improved by each other forever, even if they drifted apart. Especially because they drifted apart.

Anne decided to dedicate her life to learning about the family she made; not because of an unhealthy obsession, but because she wants to remember them and spread the word of how much they mean to her. Marcy moved, she got thrown out of her comfort zone and came out all the stronger for it. Sasha found passion in working with kids and in helping them get the help she couldn’t get as a kid, inspired by grime who was that support figure towards her.

Their time in amphibia and the care they have for each other is forever ingrained into the very fabric of their lives. The best thing about that finale is that now that they’ve grown and changed so much, even more post the timeskip, they can reconnect in a way that they couldn’t previously, whether it was because of school, location, or career differences.

It’s so real and so bittersweet and I think chalking it up to bad writing because of personal preference is just unfair
