 BACK TO ME

The golden sun dipped low over Bondi Beach, casting long shadows on the sand and tinting the waves with a fiery aqua glow. The air was warm, the kind of warmth that enveloped you like a comforting embrace.

But the atmosphere between you and Jake Sim was anything but comforting.

You and Jake had been inseparable since you were basically in diapers. Growing up in Sydney, the two of you had shared everything—from ice cream cones on intense hot summer days to whispered secrets under the stars.

You were best friends, confidants, each other's anchors. But that evening, standing on the beach where you'd shared so many memories through out your whole life, everything changed.

"I can't believe you did this, Jake!" you shouted, your voice breaking with emotion. The argument had been building for days, fueled by misunderstandings and unspoken feelings.

Jake's eyes, usually so bright and full of life, were clouded with hurt, anger, and frustration. "And I can't believe you won't even try to see my side of things!"

The cause of the argument was trivial in hindsight, a misunderstanding about your future plans after high school. Jake had been accepted into a prestigious university in Seoul, South Korea, and he'd decided to go without discussing it with you. It felt like a betrayal, like he was abandoning everything you had built together.

"I thought we were in this together," you said, your voice trembling. "You didn't even tell me you were applying Jake, I could’ve-“

Jake ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of exasperation you'd seen countless times. "I didn't think it mattered. I didn't want to hold you back, and I thought you'd be happy for me, and I know for a fact you don’t wanna go to Seoul.”

"Happy?" you echoed, the word tasting bitter in your mouth. "How can I be happy when you're leaving me behind?"

“And how do you know I wouldn’t go for you?” you say to yourself in the back of your mind.

The argument ended with harsh words and tears. Jake walked away, leaving you standing on the beach, your heart shattered. The next day, he was gone. Without a proper goodbye, Jake had moved to Korea, and you were left to pick up the pieces of your broken heart.

 BACK TO ME

The years that followed were a blur of university life, part-time jobs, and attempts to move on. You threw yourself into your studies at the University of Sydney, trying to forget the boy who had once meant everything to you, and than had thrown you away like trash. You didn't follow Jake's life in Korea, it was too painful to see his success and wonder if he ever thought about you, while you thought about him endlessly. It was quite embarrassing, really.

Occasionally, you heard whispers of his achievements from other classmates who kept in touch with him. “Jake Sim had become a top student!” “Jake Sim is the heart throb of Seoul university!” He was living a life that seemed worlds away from yours.

But no amount of distance could erase the memories of your friendship. Late at night, when the world was quiet, and you left alone with your thoughts, you found yourself thinking about him—his laugh, his smile, the way he used to look at you like you were everything to him, The pain was a dull ache that never fully went away.

It was your third year at university, and life had settled into a comfortable routine. You had a close group of great friends, a part-time job at a local café, and a busy-busy course load that kept you busy. You had learned to live with the void Jake had left behind, even if it still hurt tremendously sometimes.

One crisp Summer morning, you walked into your first lecture of the semester, juggling a coffee cup and a stack of textbooks. The lecture hall was buzzing with chatter, but one voice stood out among the rest— your face falling at a voice you hadn't heard in years.

You froze, your heart pounding in your chest. Slowly, you turned to see him. Jake Sim. He was standing at the front of the lecture hall, talking to the professor. He looked older, more mature, but there was no mistaking those familiar features you had adored so much.

Jake's eyes met yours across the room, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. You could see the shock and recognition in his eyes, mirroring your own. The memories came flooding back, overwhelming you with a rush of emotions.

Before you could process what was happening, the professor began the lecture, and you had no choice but to settle down and find a seat. Your mind was racing with thoughts, unable to focus on the words being spoken. Jake was back. After all these years, he was here, back in the blazing Sydney sun at your university.

After the lecture, you hurried out of the hall, your thoughts in turmoil. You needed to clear your head, to understand what this meant, why he was back. But as you stepped outside, you felt a familiar warm touch on your arm.

"Wait," Jake's voice was soft, hesitant.

You turned to face him, your heart in your throat. Struggling to find words. "Jake..."

"I didn't know you'd be here," he said, his eyes searching yours. "I transferred here for a semester abroad. I didn't know you were still in Sydney."

There were so many things you wanted to say, so many questions you had. “You hadn’t asked”But the words caught in your throat, and all you could manage was a nod.

"I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "For everything."

You felt a pang in your heart, he had broken you completely, and left the next day. What were you supposed to say? He was all you had known your entire life, and suddenly you had to learn how to breathe without him.

"I was so hurt, Jake," you finally said, your voice shaking. "You left without even saying goodbye, without even asking me what I wanted.”

He looked down, guilt, shame, and regret written all over his face. "I know. I was scared, stupid and young. I didn't know how to face you after what happened."

There was a long silence as you both stood there, the weight of the past pressing down on you. Finally, you took a deep breath. "Maybe we can talk? Later? There's a lot we need to say, and I’m kinda busy right now…”

Jake nodded, a flicker of hope in his eyes. "I'd like that so much. Can we meet at the café you used to work at? Tomorrow afternoon? If your free of course-“

You quickly cut Jake’s rambling off, knowing it was a habit of his when he was extremely anxious and nervous, and anxiety clouding over him.”

"Okay," you agreed, your heart pounding with an unfamiliar feeling, the feeling you felt all too many years ago when you were with Jake.

"Tomorrow."

The next day, you arrived at the café early, your nerves getting the best of you. You found a quiet corner and sat down, your thoughts a mix of anticipation and anxiety. When Jake walked in, your heart skipped a beat.

He spotted you and made his way over, a gentle smile on his lips. "Hey."

"Hi,” you replied, trying to steady your breathing.

Jake sat down across from you, and for a moment, neither of you spoke. The silence was heavy with the weight of unspoken words and unresolved feelings.

"I'm sorry," he said again, breaking the silence. "I know I hurt you, and I regret how I handled everything."

You looked at him, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me you were applying to universities in Korea?"

Jake sighed, running a hand through his hair and biting his lip, you found yourself with a soft smile seeing he still had his familiar habits.

“I didn't want to put any pressure on you. I thought it would be easier if I just made the decision on my own. But I was wrong. I should have talked to you about it."

The anger and hurt that had been simmering inside you for years bubbled to the surface. "You were my best friend, Jake. I thought we shared everything. But you just left without a word, and it felt like I didn't matter to you."

"You did matter," he said urgently. "You still do. I was scared, and I made a mistake. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I see now that I hurt you more than I ever imagined, and I never wanted that, I never ever wanted to cause you pain.”

The raw honesty in his voice cut through your anger, leaving you feeling exposed and vulnerable. "I missed you," you admitted, your voice barely above a soft whisper.

Jake reached across the table, taking your hand in his. The touch was gentle, familiar, and it sent a shiver down your spine. "I missed you too. Every day."

And you found yourselves smiling at each other, with that familiar look you had all those years in your eyes.

The conversation that followed was filled with tears and laughter, apologies and forgiveness. You talked about the past you had shared, about the dreams and the paths your lives had taken. The pain of the separation was still there, but so was the bond and understanding that had once made you inseparable.

Over the next few weeks, you and Jake spent more time together, slowly rebuilding the friendship you had lost. There were awkward moments and difficult moments and conversations, but there were also moments of genuine connection and understanding.

One evening, as you walked along the beach, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink, Jake stopped and turned to you. "Can we start over? As friends, and maybe... something more?"

You looked into his eyes, seeing the hope and vulnerability there. The years of hurt and distance had left their mark, but you knew that you still cared for him deeply. "I'd like that," you said, a small smile tugging at your lips. "But we need to take it slow. There's still a lot to work through."

Jake nodded, a look of determination in his eyes. "I'll do whatever it takes. I just want to be in your life again."

 BACK TO ME

The months that followed were a journey of healing and rediscovery. You and Jake spent countless hours talking, laughing, and reminiscing about the past. The more time you spent together, the more you realized how much you had missed having him in your life.

Your friends noticed the change in you, the way your eyes lit up when you talked about Jake, the way you smiled more often. They were happy to see you reconnecting with someone who had once been such an important part of your life.

One evening, as you sat on the beach watching the waves crash against each other, Jake turned to you with a serious expression. "There's something I need to tell you."

Your heart skipped a beat, worried about what he might say. "What is it?"

"I've been offered a permanent position in Sydney," he said, his voice steady. "It means I can stay here, with you."

The relief that washed over you was overwhelming. You threw your arms around Jake, laughing with tears brimming in your eyes, burying your face in his shoulder. The tears came unbidden, a mixture of happiness and the release of long-held fears. Jake's arms tightened around you, holding you close.

"Hey, it's okay," he murmured, his voice soothing you as he mumbled onto your bare skin. "I'm not going anywhere this time, not without you."

You pulled back slightly, looking up into his eyes. "I was so scared you'd leave me again."

Jake brushed a strand of hair from your face, his touch gentle. "I promise, I'm here to stay. Not leaving you ever again love."

As you gazed into his eyes, you felt a sense of peace that had been missing for so long. The beach, the stars, the gentle sound of the waves—it all felt like the perfect backdrop for this new chapter in your lives, together.

Over the next few months, you and Jake focused on rebuilding your relationship, strengthening it and laying the foundation for something stronger and more resilient than before. You spent time together, sharing stories of the years you had spent apart, learning about each other's lives all over again.

There were still moments of pain and doubt, shadows of the past that occasionally surfaced. But each time, you faced them together, talking through your fears and doubts. It was a process of healing, of learning to trust each other fully once more.

Jake's presence in your life brought a renewed sense of joy and purpose. You found yourself looking forward to the future with him by your side. You found yourself happier, youthful again.

It was a warm summer evening when you and Jake decided to have a picnic on the beach. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the sand and sea. You spread out a blanket, laughing as you struggled to keep it from blowing away in the gentle flowing breeze.

As you sat down, Jake handed you a sandwich he'd made. "I hope you like it," he said, a hint of nervousness in his voice.

You took a bite, savoring the familiar taste. "It's perfect," you said, smiling at him. "Just like old times."

Jake smiled back, a look of relief and admiration on his face. "I'm glad."

After you finished eating, you lay back on the blanket, gazing up at the twinkling stars. Jake lay beside you, his hand brushing against yours. The touch sent a shiver down your spine, a reminder of the unspoken feelings that had been building between you, the feelings all those years ago resurfacing.

"Do you remember when we used to stargaze here?" Jake mumbled softly.

"Of course," you replied, turning to look at him. "We'd make up stories about the constellations and dream about the future."

Jake's eyes were filled with a mix of nostalgia and longing. "I missed those moments, more than you could ever imagine.”

You reached out, taking his hand in yours. "Me too, Jakey.”

For a moment, there was only the sound of the waves and the distant hum of the city. Then, Jake leaned in, his gaze locked on yours. Your heart raced as he drew closer, his breath warm against your skin.

When his lips finally met yours, it felt so right, like all those years apart were worth it as it bought you to this very moment.

The kiss was gentle at first, a tentative exploration of emotions long held back. But as you responded, the intensity grew, a shared hunger for the connection you'd both been craving.

The world around you seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of you, wrapped in each other's arms. When you finally pulled away, breathless and smiling at eachother, with love in both your eyes, you knew that this was just the beginning.

With your relationship now onto the next step, and official, you and Jake faced new challenges. Balancing your studies, part-time jobs, and spending time together required constant planning and communication. There were moments of frustration and exhaustion, from being overworked and extreme tired, but you both pulled through together, because at the end of the day being in each other’s warm embrace was all worth it.

One evening, as you sat in your apartment studying for exams, Jake surprised you with a visit. He brought takeout from your favorite restaurant, knowing you'd been too busy to cook.

"Thought you could use a break," he said, setting the bags on the table.

You smiled, feeling a surge of affection for him. "You're a lifesaver."

As you ate together, you talked about your hopes and dreams, about the future you wanted to build together. The conversations were filled with laughter and occasional serious words, but through it all, there was a sense of partnership and mutual support.

Life was not without its storms, and one particularly dark evening, an old wound reopened. You had been out with friends, and when you returned to your apartment, you found Jake waiting for you, a troubled look on his face.

"What's wrong?" you asked, concerned.

Jake hesitated, then handed you his phone. "I got a message from someone in Korea. They want me to come back for a research project. It’s a great opportunity, but..."

Your heart sank. The fear of losing him again resurfaced, the old scars aching. "But you'd have to leave Sydney," you finished for him, your voice barely above a whisper.

Jake nodded, looking torn. "I don't want to go if it means losing you again. But it's a chance to work on something I'm passionate about."

You felt a mix of emotions—pride for his achievements, fear of being abandoned again, and a deep love that made you want the best for him.

"Jake, I can't ask you to give up your dreams. But I also can't go through losing you again."

You said as you felt your heart breaking.

Jake took your hands, his eyes pleading. "We'll find a way, We can make it work long distance. I won't make the same mistakes. I promise, please baby.” He says with eyes brimming with shiny tears.

Tears filled your eyes as you considered his words. "I just don't want to be hurt again, I can’t be hurt again Jake..”

Jake pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly. "Neither can I, We'll figure it out together, mm?”

The weeks that followed were a test of your determination to each other. You discussed every detail of how to maintain your relationship while he was in Korea. The planning was meticulous—scheduling video calls, visits, and ways to stay connected despite the distance.

The night before Jake was set to leave, you both stood on the beach, the moon casting a silvery glow on the waves. The familiar setting brought back memories of your first kiss, and the promises you had made to each other.

"Are you sure about this?" Jake asked, his voice filled with uncertainty.

You nodded, taking his hand. "Yes. We'll make it work. I believe in us, believe in you.” You say caressing the back of his neck as he wrapped his arms around you.

Jake's eyes were filled with emotion as he leaned in to kiss you. The kiss was filled with both longing and desperation, a promise to hold on to each other no matter what.

The months apart were challenging, but you and Jake found ways to keep the spark alive. Daily messages, video calls, and surprise care packages became your lifelines. You shared your successes and struggles, celebrated milestones, and comforted each other through the hard times.

There were moments of doubt, nights when the distance felt unbearable. But each time, you reminded yourselves of the love you shared and the future you were building together, the future that was so close in reach.

One evening, as you sat on your balcony, Jake called you with exciting news. "I got a grant for my research! It's going to make a big difference."

You smiled, proud of him. "That's amazing, Jake. I'm so happy for you, so proud baby.”

Jake's voice was filled with hope. "It also means I can come back to Sydney sooner than planned. Just a few more months, and I'll be home."

The news filled you with a renewed sense of determination, and happiness. "I can't wait."

The day Jake returned to Sydney was one of the happiest of your life. You stood at the airport, your heart racing as you scanned the crowd for his familiar face. When you finally saw him, it felt like the world had shifted back into place.

You ran to him, tears of joy streaming down your face. Jake dropped his bags and caught you in his arms, lifting you off the ground as he kissed you deeply.

"I'm home!” he shouted against your lips, as people gave him looks as if he was a crazy man- and in this situation.. he kinda was.

"Welcome home, Jakey.” you replied, your heart overflowing with love and happiness.

With Jake back in Sydney, you both focused on building your future together. You found a small apartment, filled it with memories and dreams, signs of your love and started planning the next steps of your lives.

Your relationship was stronger than ever, forged through the trials and triumphs you had faced. You supported each other's ambitions, celebrated each other's successes, and provided comfort during the tough times.

One evening, as you sat on the beach watching the sunset, Jake turned to you with a serious expression.

"There's something I want to ask you."

You looked at him, curious. "What is it?"

Jake took a deep breath, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

Shock flooding through your body as tears filled your eyes as you realized what he was asking. "Yes," you said, your voice trembling with emotion. "Yes, I'll marry you."

Jake slipped the ring onto your finger, and you kissed jake gently with love and softness, the sunset casting a golden glow on your new beginning.

The years that followed were filled with love and adventure. You and Jake faced life's challenges together, always supporting each other and never forgetting the journey that had brought you to this point.

 BACK TO ME

“Daddy, please tell me another bedtime story!” Your six year-old daughter pleaded as Jake looked at you with permission.

You giggled at his desperate gaze, “go ahead, honey.” You say kissing his forehead, sitting on the other side of your daughter’s bed as Jake cradled you both into his arms.

“Once upon a time…”

As Jake had told the same story he tells your daughter every single night, your story, you know there is nowhere else you’d rather be right now, but here with Jake.

Heaven Couldn't Wait For You

HEESEUNG ━

I still listen to your old voice messages because I’m scared I’ll forget the sound of your voice

"Hi baby, I'm sure you're busy with work, but I just wanted to let you know that I got off early and was going to pick up dinner. So just let me know if there's anything you'd like! I love you!"

Heeseung sat in his desk chair, staring blankly at the wall. The sound of your voice is the only sound in the room. Tears stained his pale cheeks, having done cried all of the tears he could and was now just left with a numbing feeling.

The clicking sound of the voicemail end caused him to tear his eyes away from the blank wall and click on the one right below it. Leaning back in the chair, he listened to your voice once more, his heart breaking even more, knowing he wouldn't ever be able to hear it again.

"Happy birthday, my love! I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person to celebrate with you, but I'll be home tonight, so just wait for me, ya? I have to go; I love you so much, Heeseung."

His jaw clenched, trying to keep the tears that were pulling in his at bay, but he failed as soon as the room fell silent. An emptiness filled the room, the weight of it all crushing Heeseung's soul.

A knock at the door caused the tall male to whip around, wiping his face of any stray tears. Jay cracked open the door, peeking his head in, worried about his roommate.

A sigh broke through his lips at Heeseung's disheveled appearance. Pushing the door open further, he stood in the doorway, taking in the state of his room. It was clean—maybe a little too clean. Then he noticed the phone propped up on his desk.

"It's been six months Hee, you're just hurting yourself." Jay hated seeing his best friend like this, so broken, so numb, so lost.

Heeseung sniffed, wiping his nose and meeting Jay's eyes, "I know, but I'm scared I'll forget what her voice sounds like."

Heaven Couldn't Wait For You

JONGSEONG ━

I still smell the traces of you everywhere; my bed sheets, my pillowcases, our hoodie

Jay sat in the middle of his bed; the only source of light that filled the room was from the TV that was playing a random show. Tears silently flowed from his chocolate orbs as he held the fabric of your hoodie in his hands. The sweet smell of your perfume was still present in the fabric, only causing more tears to flow from his eyes, his longing growing tenfold.

His appearance was a mess, just like his room. The once neat and tight space was nowhere near as organized as it once was. Clothes were thrown about the floor, used cups sat on his nightstand, and half-eaten meals lay in the trash can.

It had only been a few days since your funeral, but with each passing day without you felt like a stab to his heart. That pain only grew more when he found his favorite hoodie stuffed at the top of the closet, the scent of your perfume washing over him as soon as he held it in his hands.

“Why did you have to leave me?” He sobbed into the fabric as he brought it to his face, laying down in the very bed that the two of you had shared for years. Your scent surrounds him because even months after you have left, everything around him still smells so much like you. Reminding him once more that you were gone.

Before too long, Jay’s cries died down, exhaustion finally taking over his body from not sleeping for so long. His eyes closed tightly, eyelashes decorated with teardrops, and his lips parted slightly as he breathed softly. His face was buried in the fabric of his pillowcase, the lingering scent of your shampoo is the only thing that let him sleep peacefully. However, the hoodie that was sitting in his hands was clenched tightly to his chest, a fear that he would wake up and it wouldn’t be there pooling in his gut. The last thing he wanted was for your scent to disappear from the article of clothing, scared that maybe one day he’d forget your scent entirely.

Heaven Couldn't Wait For You

JAEYUN ━

I still text your number even though I know you won’t ever respond

Jake sat around the table with all of his friends, drinking yet another beer. He had a wide smile on his face as everyone congratulated him once more. He had just gotten a huge promotion at work and aced a big test at school. It felt as if everything was going good for once in over a year.

Many drinks later, Jake was singing along with Sunghoon. Everyone watched with a smile, even if they weren’t singing the words correctly. Then, just like that, he remembered you, forgetting that he hadn’t gotten the chance to tell you about all of the good news that he had received.

Sitting back down in his seat with an excited smile, he grabbed his phone, opened the device, and went straight to your contact. He didn’t pay any mind to the multiple unanswered messages from many, many other times. He typed up a message, not caring to double-check for any grammar or spelling mistakes. After all, you wouldn’t mind. You never did.

Heeseung stopped mid-drink once he noticed Jake’s actions, his smile dropping slightly, already knowing what the boy was doing. Jay and Sunoo weren’t too far behind him, a pitiful look crossing both of their faces.

Noticing how quiet it went, Jake looked up from the device in his hand after hitting send. His smile dropped once he saw the looks of pity that he was getting, his heart lurching as his facade was slowly starting to crumble.

“I know she’s not going to answer, but–” he hiccuped, tears starting to brim in his eyes, “but she deserves to know.” His bottom lip trembled slightly as he looked down at his phone, his lock screen showing. A picture of you and him on the very last date the two of you went on.

“She’s proud of you, man,” Heeseung said with a sad smile to the brunette, who nodded softly, wiping his face clear of the tears that had broken free.

He knew that you were watching over him, knew that even from far away, you were still cheering him on. That’s what he used as motivation to continue in life, wanting nothing more than to make you proud.

Heaven Couldn't Wait For You

SUNGHOON ━

I still go to our favorite spot whenever I’m missing you because I feel like you’re there with me

Sunghoon sat on the damp grass, not caring at all that his jeans were soaking wet. His hands shoved in the pockets of his hoodie, and he looked out at the stars shining over the silent city. The crisp winter air turned his cheeks and the tip of his nose a rosy shade of red. Each puff of air outlined the night, barely illuminated by the moonlight.

He closed his eyes, soaking in the sounds of the crickets around him, the sound bringing him a sense of calmness. Just then, a gust of cool air washed over his body, making him shiver. Curling his knees closer to his chest to try and save some body heat, he shivered.

“I know you’re probably scolding me for not bringing a coat.” He chuckled softly, tilting his head up to gaze upon the moon once more. His fingers started to grow numb, even in the protection of his pockets. He tried to smile, not wanting you to see him upset, but the memories of the dates that the two of you shared flashed in his mind, and tears welled up in his eyes. “I miss you so much.” His voice shook, fingers curling up into a fist.

Another gust of wind blew over him, except this time, it felt warmer. A feeling that diminished the barrier that held his tears. Soft sobs racked through his body as he buried his face in his knees at the thought of you possibly being there with him, telling him that it was going to be okay.

“It’s been a year, and it still hurts so much,” he cried out, pulling his tear-stained face from his knees to look up at the sky once more, his eyes finding the brightest star in the sky. I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you, my love.”

Pain shot through every fiber of his body as he sat on the damp grass, wishing that you were with him. Watching you point out all of the constellations that you could see in the night sky, laughing whenever he would make up a random name for a shape he made.

It had been a year without you, but yet it felt like just yesterday that he had lost you.

SUNOO ━

I still have all of the little notes you used to write to me in my closet

Sunoo wiped the tears from his face once more as he pulled the lid off of the cutely decorated box. One that you decorated yourself for him to hold a birthday gift, but Sunoo thought it was far too cute to just throw out afterward. So he kept it and used it as a safekeeping for all of the little notes that you used to write him.

Sniffing softly, he sat the lid off to the side and looked inside, seeing all of the colored papers that lay inside. He contemplated on even reading them, scared that he would break down once again, but his hands seemed to be working faster than his mind. His fingertips brushed over a small blue paper, grabbing it softly before unfolding it. More tears spilled from his bloodshot eyes as he read the words that were written in your pretty handwriting.

‘Every day, I am reminded of how lucky I am to have you in my life.’

Then, just like that, he found himself grabbing the pages piece by piece, reading every note no matter how big or small it was. Even as tears blurred his vision, he still read all of your words, recalling some of the memories that they brought back with them. How you would always try to discreetly hide the note somewhere you knew he would look, always waiting for the smile that would spread on his face whenever he would read it before walking over to you, kissing you sweetly as thanks, but now he could only hope that you hear his thanks as he read them over and over.

Grabbing another, he felt his heart lurch into his throat, a choked cry pulling from his swollen lips as he read the words written on the pretty pink page.

‘You bring out the best in me, and I will forever be thankful for that.’

He wrapped his fingers softly around the page, scared that he would crumble it entirely as he tilted his head back, tears spilling from the corner of his eyes. Letting out a shaky breath, he opened his mouth, words tumbling out before he could even fully process them.

“You brought out the best in me, too, my love, and I’m so sorry I could not protect you when you needed me.”

JUNGWON ━

I still hear the sounds of you singing in the shower like you were in your own concert

Jungwon sat on the floor of the shower, the now cold water washing over his body as he hugged his knees to his chest. The soft sounds of your favorite playlist playing through the speakers of his phone that sat on the ground right outside of the shower.

Tears spilled from his eyes, blending with the water that washed over his head, dripping from the ends of his hair. His clothes, which were still on his body, were now completely soaked through, clinging to his body. He was sure that he would fall sick after sitting under the cool water for so long, but he couldn’t find it in himself to get up. The chill of the water behind was the only thing to numb the pain that coursed through his veins.

The memories of him sitting on the counter while you were in the shower, just singing your heart out as if no one in the world could hear you. Your voice was sweet like honey, always pulling a smile to his face any time he heard you from the bedroom. He recalled all of the times that he told you that you could become a singer with vocals like that, but you always told him that you were far too shy to even think about trying to go down that path.

“It’s okay, I’m the only audience you need anyways.” He would always tell you, wrapping his arms around your body and peppering your face with kisses until you both fell into a fit of giggles.

Just then, a song played that made his whole body tense, the very first song that the two of you bonded over. The very song that you had proclaimed to be your guys' couple song. The very song that Jungwon told himself that he would never listen to again after hearing it at your funeral.

Sobs racked his body as a string of apologies fell from his lips, his nails digging into his calf, trying to ground himself. He listened to the song, remembering your sweet voice singing it so loudly until, eventually, the playlist stopped, and he had to pull his frigid body from the shower floor.

NI-KI ━

I still remember all of our late-night talks when we’d make plans for our future

Riki sat on the ground in front of his bed, a notebook sitting idly in his hands as he fought the urge to cry. Reading the words that were written on the pages made his heart hurt, but seeing that it was your handwriting completely shattered his soul.

He read all of your thoughts and notes that you were sure that no one else would see, as well as the little doodles that decorated the edges. Your mother had just given him the notebook, telling him that you wanted him to have it if anything were to happen. As if you knew that you weren’t going to be in the world for much longer.

Tears started to silently stream down his cheeks as he turned the page reading the words, the words expressing how much you love sitting with him late at night, talking about your lives. Planning your future together. He hated that you wouldn’t be able to do that anymore, nor would he ever get the chance to live out those plans that the two of you had made.

“You’re such a liar.” He choked out between sobs as he read all of your words that were scribbled on the page, tears blurring the letters, melting them all together as he cried. Sorrow and longing coursed through his veins because as much as he wanted to be angry at you for leaving him, he just couldn’t.

Tears dropped down from his lashes to wet the pages, smudging the ink under his fingers when he tried to wipe it away. His heart shattered even further the more he read, knowing that you had so many things that you wanted to try, so many places that you wanted to go, and so many people that you wanted to meet. All of these things you wanted to do with him.

Just as he was about to close the book, bile creeping up the lining of his throat as the reality of you not coming back settled in his mind. But then he saw something on one last page, words causing a choked sob to tear from his lungs, fingers gripping the edges of the paper so tight that it was a miracle that it didn’t rip.

‘To my beloved Riki, promise me that if I one day have to leave this earth that you still follow our plans. I love you, and I’m sorry I can’t be there with you as you continue your journey in life.’

synopsis. you & sunghoon don't exactly get along but spend your shared birthday alone this year due to jake's scheming

 Birthday Twins (psh)

park sunghoon and you share the same two best friends, jake and jay.

park sunghoon and you have shared the same neighborhood since you were six.

park sunghoon and you even share a birthday.

park sunghoon has been the bane of your existence since and you’ve been his.

in first grade when you sat down at the desk your name tag was placed on, the boy next to made one snarky comment about your drawings you have disliked him ever since.

“a flower isn’t just pink. the stem and the leaves are green.” the boy beside you said during morning break, peering over your shoulder at your drawing.

your six-year-old self was already moody from earlier in the day when your mom gave your younger brother jungwon the last chocolate chip pancake. you got stuck with a plain pancake for your bites. without any hesitation, you read his name tag to yourself and snapped back.

“my drawing is pretty,” referring to his messily drawn bird. “park sunghoon.”

“and mine isn’t?” sunghoon quirked an eyebrow at you, picking up his paper to display his ‘masterpiece’.

“i don’t know what that is,” you fired back, making a face of disgust.

“it’s a penguin,” sunghoon adjusted the glasses on his nose bridge. “yang ____.”

at least you knew he could read.

annoyed with your desk buddy you decided to spread your wings and move over to the table of two girls. grabbing your special pink crayon and paper as you approached your two giggling classmates.

“hi, i’m ____!” you carefully placed your drawing on the empty spot on the table.

“hi! i’m jimin!” the taller girl with the long black hair smiled. “this is my best friend yizhou!”

“wow i like your names!” you sat in front of them, reaching for your crayon to make another flower.

you sat with the two girls until you were sent back to your seat for math. they quickly accepted you with open arms and even invited you to sit with them at lunch.

though you had to decline as you promised jake that you would find each other during lunch.

jake was your best friend. you met him in pre-k and were in the same class even in kindergarten. unfortunately, this year he had been placed in the opposite class. with no time to hang out during class but you knew you had lunch to spend together.

little did you know jay and sunghoon had the same plan. in the other kindergarten classroom across the hall, jake had quickly befriended jay because they both played the guitar.

when your teacher announced lunch, you quickly ran up to the front of the line, pushing sunghoon out of your way, but not enough to have your teacher say anything. sunghoon tried to push you back but the line had already started on its route to the cafeteria.

“jaeyun!” you called out once spotting a familiar head of brown hair, next to him was another boy you had never seen before, probably a new friend from his class.

“____! i saved you a seat,” jake grinned, patting the chair next to him.

you skipped over to their table, setting your lunchbox on the table. once you touched the seat he leaned down to whisper that at school he was now jake, to which you replied that he should make an exception just for you.

due to the lack of attention you were paying as you were caught up in jake, you hadn’t noticed sunghoon following close behind you, sitting next to jake’s friend.

“ew why is she here,” sunghoon grumbled to the unnamed black-haired boy.

“hoon be nice,” the other boy kicked his foot under the table, causing sunghoon to wince. the boy raised his hand out to greet you, waving it slowly. “i’m jay.”

“i’m ____,”

“i know,” jay answered, offering a half smile. “jake told me his best friend would eat with us so i invited my best friend hoon! he’s cranky though,”

“i know,” you side-eyed sunghoon as you took a bite of whatever your mom packed you for lunch that day.

at recess, there were only four swings at the playground. someone had been sitting alone at the one on the end, making it three. you and sunghoon fought over the last swing, which he ultimately gave up. jay and jake took the swings on the further end while you and sunghoon reached the third empty seat at the same time. tugging on the chain back and forth until sunghoon reluctantly gave up and let you on the swing. giving you a rather aggressive push when you asked him to push your swing.

near the end of recess, you felt bad so you got off and told sunghoon to take his turn. pushing his swing a little too hard to the point he almost fell, but thankfully he didn’t.

that continued for every day up until now. your group of you, jake, sunghoon, and jay continued through all grades. jake acted like nothing was wrong, you and sunghoon constantly bickered and acted passive-aggressively towards each other. then jay was the mediator between you two when needed.

the type of relationship you had with sunghoon was solidified when on your seventh birthday. when his mother dropped him off, also carrying cupcakes to share with the class.

you shared a birthday.

from then, every year you just knew you had to go bigger than sunghoon and make everyone remember your birthday not his. from candy-filled goodie bags to funfetti cupcakes, to even begging your mom to bring your little brother jungwon to your birthday one year because toddlers are cute and you knew your classmates would agree. you always made it your mission to upstage sunghoon.

as your eighteenth birthday approached, you still had the same goal: have a more memorable birthday than sunghoon.

sure, it sounds childish and petty but as the both of you grew up you became closer to sunghoon. you still had your disputes and held a slight grudge against each other but the fact your friend group was the same forced you two to tolerate each other. though being left completely alone with each other ends in chaos than friendship nine times out of ten.

sunghoon was, for lack of better word, your frenemy.

this year however was not going to be the year you stop this ‘tradition’ of going all out on your birthday. going all out to you meant getting jake, jay, and sunghoon into your car on your birthday and driving wherever you desire. that’s your ideal birthday, and having sunghoon there allows you to semi-celebrate his birthday (and so jay wouldn’t get mad at you for not inviting him).

“so what are we doing for your guys’ birthday this year?” jay asked, setting down his tray of cafeteria food on the table and taking a seat. “should i take a day off or?”

“clear your schedules! we three are going on a road trip!” sunghoon shared excitedly.

“hoon there are four of us,” you rolled your eyes, stealing a grape from jake’s tray.

“you’re spending our birthday with jimin and yizhou this year,” he said with a mockingly sweet tone, booping you on the nose as the cherry on top. “i already told them to take my least favorite girl out.”

“why would you do that?” you harshly pushed his arm away from your face before he could retract it. “we always spend our birthdays together!”

“wow ____, just say you’re so in love with me that you felt the need to leave the womb the same day i did,”

“i don’t mean you! i mean jake and jay always spend my birthday with me, you just happen to have nothing better to do on your birthday!”

“okay, so what i’m hearing is i should call out of work?” jay interrupted your bickering, pulling his phone out to text his boss.

“yes!” sunghoon and you said in unison.

“hoon you can’t just make ____’s birthday plans for her,” jake spoke up, handing you the juice box he didn’t want to drink. he opened the carton before handing it to you, turning to ask you a question. “what did you have in mind for this year?”

“my parents are letting us go up to their cabin,” you told the table. “but if sunghoon is so set on spending this year without me then i can always bring my other friend group-”

it was jake and jay’s turn to talk in sync, they shouted at you a no.

your other friend group was, like sunghoon said earlier, jimin and yizhou. they have been your separate friend group since the day you met in first grade, which was the brighter moment of the start of your first-grade career. you went to them for every thing and vise versa, you can’t possibly have all your friend needs met by two-and-a-half teenage boys.

“i think i win again this year!” you grinned at sunghoon, snatching a french fry from his tray. “as i do every year.”

“shut up,” sunghoon rolled his eyes and shoved your shoulder.

two weeks later you found yourself in the passenger's seat of your own car while sunghoon was at the wheel. finally reaching your birthday weekend meant your two-and-a-half best friends would accompany you up to the mountains to the cabin you’ve owned since childhood. the only thing missing now was jake and jay in the back seat.

“why isn’t jake coming down?” sunghoon frustratedly sighed, tapping a bunch of places on his screen.

that morning sunghoon had walked over to your house, greeted your parents, took your bag to the car, and even offered to drive today. your parents had no trouble allowing you to bring the three boys along as they had known them for over a decade. they truly thought sunghoon was the sweetest but you could beg to differ.

you drove to jake’s house and waited outside just at the time the four of you had discussed last night. though jake failed to be there on his doorstep in his usual punctual ways.

“guys i think jay is stuck at work,” jake started when he finally answered one of sunghoon’s millions of calls. “i think i’ll wait for him to be done and drive up together, i don’t want him to do the three hours alone.”

you both let out exasperated sighs before agreeing to the sudden change of plans knowing it was the best option.

sunghoon hung up on jake and started the route his gps had shown when searching for the address of your place in the woods. the longest three hours of your life began.

the first hour was dead silent. nobody on aux, just the gps lady's voice filling the car every couple of feet, and the sound of breathing.

the second hour sunghoon had broken the tension by asking if you were hungry, which you wanted to lie about but your stomach said otherwise, grumbling every couple minutes. he drove off the nearest exit and stopped at a small diner.

once the car was parked sunghoon got out and waited for you to follow behind him inside. the waitress seated you in a booth in the corner then handed you two menus and explained she would be back shortly.

you decided on breakfast for lunch, and it seems sunghoon thought the same.

he ordered chicken and waffles while you ordered chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. it’s your birthday after all.

it didn’t take long for your food to come out.

the waitress seemed to be around your age, maybe a year or two older. she placed your pancakes in front of you before sending sunghoon a wink while biting her lip and walking away. for some reason that made you angry.

you spaced out for a couple of seconds rethinking that interaction, when you came back into consciousness you saw sunghoon was already almost done cutting your pancakes for you.

even if you were eighteen now, growing up with jake as your best friend made you subject to immense princess treatment. sunghoon doing something you liked for you without any request made heat rush up your neck. quietly thanking him as you took your first bite.

“i know jake always cuts your food,” he broke the silence. “so i wanted to do it for you since it’s our birthday after all.”

“thanks, hoon,” you said with flushed cheeks. picking up a piece of your pancake to shove into your mouth after your next sentence. “happy birthday to you too.”

throughout your rather silent meal, your waitress kept coming up to the table. she only ever looked and talked to sunghoon. constantly flirting with him and eventually asking if he was single to which he responded that he wanted more butter.

by the time she came back with the butter you and sunghoon were ready to pay. going back and forth until sunghoon snatched your card to hide it so he could pay with his.

“i know this is weird but can i have your number?” the waitress fluttered her eyelashes at sunghoon as she handed back his card, hand grazing his for a couple of extra seconds.

“oh um,” sunghoon quickly retracted his hand and pulled you towards him. “i have a girlfriend.” he let an arm fall around your waist and held you close. feeling you freeze under his touch, he rubbed soft circles on your hip.

“oh my god i’m so sorry!” she apologized, quickly picking up your plates and booking it towards the kitchen. “i assumed you were just friends.”

you and sunghoon didn’t speak at all but he kept his arm around you, guiding you toward the car. the remaining two hours were as silent as ever, maybe even more than before. just the adjustment of sunghoon giving you aux.

it was still early in the afternoon when you arrived at the cabin. knowing jay’s work schedule you knew he never stayed past 2 pm so you checked to see if he and jake were on their way. they were not. they weren’t even with each other. both of their locations were still at their homes, and the app had told you jay had been home all day.

“hoon,” you poked his shoulder, facing your phone screen towards him.

“what ____ i’m driving,” he reminded you, eyes never leaving the road.

“jay didn’t go to work and the both of them are still home,”

“what?!”

you quickly opened your contacts to facetime the two liars and get them to start driving to meet you before dinner. eating dinner for your birthday alone with sunghoon did not seem that pleasing, the car ride was the most awkward it’s ever been between you two, and more hours of that in a cabin in the middle of the forest would be even worse.

jay picked up first. his camera was off and his voice was evident of sleep.

“yes?” he managed to grumble.

“why aren’t you and jake on your way?” sunghoon spoke for the both of you

“um work,” jay painfully obviously lied. “we should be leaving as soon as jake is ready.”

right when jay said that, jake’s cheery face appeared on the screen with a shit-eating grin plastered on his face. “we can’t make it today,” jake continued smiling as if he didn’t just tell you the one thing you didn’t want to hear today.

“seriously guys, on my birthday?” you frowned.

“our birthday,” sunghoon corrected you.

“we will be there as soon as possible tomorrow morning!” jake tried to lighten the mood. “on the bright side we still have the rest of the weekend to hangout.”

“fine, but why can’t you make it?”

“well you see my car is currently in the shop-” jake started to explain.

“use jay’s,” sunghoon cut him off.

“my mom is using my car right now, her car is in the shop,” jay mumbled, sounding like he had been sleeping throughout this whole conversation, which he was.

“okay but if you guys aren’t here when i wake up you owe me free drinks every time i visit you at work,”

“sure whatever i’m tired,” jay groaned, leaving the call shortly after. jake left next, still suspiciously smiling at the camera. he wasn’t off the hook, once he got there you would kill him.

finally arriving at the cabin you and sunghoon unloaded the stuff from the trunk. thankfully you two were in charge of the food. so you wouldn’t starve without your two best friends.

after everything was brought inside you let sunghoon pick his room for the three nights. you already knew which one was your room, since you claimed the same room every time you came here with your family.

unloading and decompressing took around two hours. you decided to shower while sunghoon had fell asleep on his bed. the moment you walked out of your room sunghoon had emerged from his, standing across from you in the doorway parallel.

“hi,” you stared at his messy bed hair.

“hey,” he replied. “hungry?”

“i could eat,”

you followed him to the kitchen where all the food you had bought in preparation for this trip sat. though without jay here neither of you wanted to cook so you got out two ramen packets. sunghoon silently nodded at you to signal he was okay with it and you started boiling water.

soon enough you sat next to each other at the dining table silently eating your food.

it was weird being so quiet around sunghoon. normally you would be yelling at each other by now to the point you would have ran off to your room and slammed the door in his face. that was your normal. even if you didn’t like it that’s just how you and sunghoon are and you have grown to accept it.

he was annoying and flamboyant to you but you saw how fun he was to be around through other people. no, you don’t hate park sunghoon, you just don’t know how to do anything other than pester him.

but you had a pact to not piss each other off on this one day of the year.

sunghoon and you finished up your makeshift meals and moved to the living room to turn on a movie to pass the time. he silently put on your favorite movie when you were kids and you both sat next to each other with around a foot of space between you.

as the movie came to a close tiredness crept on you. bidding a short good night to sunghoon and sleepily stumbling towards your room. after crashing on the bed and wrapping yourself in the sheets you finally let your eyelids droop.

but all the tiredness left your body as soon as the videos of people's paranormal stories flooded your thoughts. even worse as you were in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with park sunghoon alone. he could not fight a ghost.

tossing and turning after what felt like forever you swore heard a creak from the balcony attached to your room. scared out of your mind you quickly got up and ran to sunghoon’s room.

thankfully you did not interrupt his slumber since when you opened the door his lamp was still on and he had a book in his hands.

“hoon can i stay in here i’m hearing things,” you begged, shutting and locking the door behind you.

“what do you mean?” sunghoon set his book down on the side table, giving you his full attention. “hearing what?”

“i know this probably sounds like i’m just paranoid- which i am! but i keep hearing creaking noises from the balcony in my room.” you explained, approaching the bed. “i spent the whole car ride going down a rabbit hole on creepy stories and now i’m… scared.” you whispered the last part, trying to preserve the little pride you had left.

“um sure, come here,” sunghoon motioned for the space on his bed. the bed was big enough for the two of you so you didn’t think it would be a problem. you let out a sigh of relief.

as you climbed under the duvet he reached over to the side table again, opening the drawer to reveal a neatly wrapped box.

“i wanted to wait for the guys, but it’s not going to be our birthday much longer,” referring to the eleven thirty-eight on the digital clock. “open it,”

you carefully unwrapped the box he handed you to find the necklace you had been eyeing the last time the four of you went shopping. you hadn’t explicitly told anyone you wanted it but stared at it the whole time.

your eyes started to burn because sunghoon’s gift had been the first and only gift you received today. your parents already giving you the cabin, your brother jungwon being a broke fifteen-year-old, yizhou and jimin’s gift was stuck in transit, then lastly jay and jake not showing up.

sunghoon’s gift was undeniably thoughtful, even more so because he would have only known if he had been paying close attention to you that day.

suddenly you felt like a horrible friend for not thinking of getting him anything, you never got each other gifts in previous years.

“hoon…” you sniffled, taking the necklace out of the box to admire it.

“are you crying?” sunghoon asked, disregarding everything you had just said. “here, let me put it on for you.” he took the necklace from your hands and unclasped it to wrap it around your neck.

“can i hug you,” you asked through sniffles, to which he shyly nodded.

moving the covers off both of your legs you practically jumped on him. letting your knees fall onto the slides of his thighs and wrapping your arms around his neck, of course, while still crying.

sunghoon awkwardly hugged you back, hand coming up to lightly pat you on the back as if you were some crying newborn.

“shh,” he whispered into your hair trying to calm you down.

“i didn’t get you anything,” you pouted, staring at him with glassy eyes, he swore he could cry as well. “i feel bad taking this.” and now sunghoon started crying.

“no, please keep it,” sunghoon said with tears in his eyes as he brought his hand up to stop yours trying to remove the jewelry. he didn’t expect himself to cry but seeing you cry over something he got for you flipped something in him and tears started streaming down his face. “look you don’t have to repay me or anything this gift comes with something more important.”

you tilted your head at him confused, patting under his eyes to dry his face. how could he still have something to give you?

“____,” he raised his hands to cup your face. “i like you.”

“oh,” was all you said, causing sunghoon to panic.

“like i don’t hate you or anything!”

“i know… didn’t we establish this at the start of high school?” you questioned, confused about why he felt the need to tell you again, that you were technically one of his best friends by how much time you spent together. “i don’t know what you are trying to get at right now hoon.”

“i mean like in that type of way,” he trailed off. “like-”

“is this a pity gift?” you quickly dried your face in embarrassment. of course. he didn’t actually care. jake probably told him to get you something this year and then gave him the gift idea when he came to him for help. the tears he shed were probably just from the heat of the moment. “did jake put you up to this?”

“no wait! that’s not what i mean at all,” sunghoon grabbed your hands to keep you from removing the necklace around your neck for a second time.

“okay so what is it?” you pried your hands out of his grip, crossing your arms.

“i like you in a ‘i want to be your boyfriend’ type of way,” he nervously explained, you could feel the bed shaking from his leg bouncing.

“oh,” you said once again, trying to process what he said. “um,” you wanted to give him an answer but couldn’t find the words, you swore there was something with the air since you started tearing up again.

“are you crying tears of joy or because you hate me even more now?”

“both,” you finally spoke, trying to stop the tears from falling down your sleeve.

“is that a good thing though?”

“i mean,” you cleared your throat. “i think a boyfriend is the best present you’ve ever gotten me, and the only one you’ve ever gotten me actually.”

“great!” sunghoon scratched the back of his neck, you furrowed your eyebrows at his response.

“that’s all you’re going to say?”

“i didn’t think this far…” sunghoon apologized, pulling you into his arms. “i was only prepared to be rejected.”

in the morning jake and jay finally arrived. the cabin was dead silent and all the bedroom doors closed except for the last room on the left. jake whispered to jay and they tiptoed towards the door. as quietly as possible until jay stubbed his toe on the corner of the couch and let out a shriek.

fortunately for them, sunghoon and you were heavy sleepers and didn’t look at all disturbed when jake turned the doorknob.

you were sleeping cuddled up into sunghoon’s side while he had an arm around your waist and the other under your head.

their plan had been successful!

the two boys tried to exit the door and leave you two be but as they walked further down the hall to find their rooms jake tripped over nothing. falling on the floor with a thump, but he didn’t make any noise to try and prevent waking you guys up.

as he slowly got up sunghoon’s door burst open. revealing sunghoon clutching a book and you clinging to his arm behind him.

“oh it’s just you guys…” sunghoon slowly brought the book down.

“i thought the ghost came back!” you moved forward so sunghoon wasn’t covering you anymore.

“ghosts aren’t real ____,” sunghoon turned around to you, pushing you back into the room towards the bed. “me and my GIRLFRIEND are going back to sleep!”

“congrats,” jay muttered, closing his door to catch up on the sleep he missed since jake wouldn’t shut up in the car about how you both failed to remember jay already called out for your birthdays.

 KISS ME !

YOU AND SUNGHOON HAVE BEEN DATING FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS NOW, yet the both of you are still incredibly shy around each other.

your relationship is filled with soft glances and gentle touches, the kind that makes your heart flutter.

but what was odd about your relationship was that although you’ve been together for a while, you two surprisingly haven’t had your first kiss. - more under cut !

tonight, you and your friends have decided to have a small gathering at one of their houses, and someone had suggested playing a game of truth or dare.

you can feel the nervous anticipation in the air as the bottle spins and lands on your boyfriend, sunghoon.

“truth or dare, sunghoon?” lee heeseung asks with a mischievous and teasing grin.

sunghoon rolls his eyes as he hesitates for a moment before choosing,

“dare, of course.”

the room buzzes with excitement as your friend leans forward, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

“i dare you to kiss y/n. or take a shot if you don’t want to.”

you felt your heart skips a beat. you glance at sunghoon, hoping he’ll choose to kiss you.

it’s not that you doubt his feelings for you, but a public display of affection would reassure you, and you’ve been waiting for months now!

sunghoon’s face turns a bright red as he shifts uncomfortably. the silence stretches, making the moment feel like an eternity.

finally, to your dismay, he reaches for the shot glass, his hands shaking slightly.

he quickly downs the liquor, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.

the room erupts into a mixture of cheers and playful groans, but you can’t help feeling a pang of hurt. you force a smile fighting the humiliation, but inside, your heart aches.

why wouldn’t he want to kiss you? the rest of the night, you try your best to join in on the fun.

but your thoughts keep drifting back to sunghoon’s choice, feeling your heart break each and every single time.

you become quieter, lost in the abyss of your mind, and feeling a strong sense of rejection.

of course, sunghoon notices your change in demeanor and keeps glancing at you, concern etched on his face.

when the gathering finally ends, he offers to walk you home like he always has.

the night air is cool and crisp, and the sound of your footsteps on the pavement is the only thing breaking the uncomfortable silence between the two of you.

“y/n.. did i do something wrong?” sunghoon asks softly, his voice tinged with worry.

as he asks that question, you feel all of your efforts of holding yourself back slip away.

you stop in your tracks and turn to face him, tears welling up in your eyes with a look of complete and utter embarrassment.

“do you even like me, sunghoon?”

you burst out, unable to hold back your emotions any longer.

sunghoon looks taken aback, his eyes wide with surprise and disbelief.

“why would you think that i don’t like you?”

“because,” you say, your voice trembling,

“you wouldn’t even kiss me during the game- no, our whole relationship! you’d rather take a shot than kiss me. it felt like you didn’t want to, like you were embarrassed of me.”

tears stream down your face, and sunghoon’s expression crumbles.

he steps closer, reaching out to gently wipe away your tears with his thumb.

“no, no, baby, it’s not like that at all,” he says, his voice breaking at your state.

“i wanted to kiss you, i really did and i always have. i just didn’t want our first kiss to be because of a dare. i wanted it to be special, something just for us, not something done in front of everyone because i had to.”

you look into his eyes after wiping your tears, seeing the sincerity in them. sunghoon’s own tears start to fall as he continues,

“i’m so sorry, y/n. i never wanted to hurt you or make you ever feel like i didn’t want you. i care about you so much, more than you know.”

before you can respond, sunghoon leans in, closing the distance between you.

his lips press against yours in a kiss that’s tender and full of emotion. it feels like everything around you fades away, leaving just the two of you in this perfect moment.

his hands cup your face, holding you gently as he deepens the kiss, conveying all the feelings he’s been too shy to express with words, a feeling of warmth exploding in the two of you.

when he finally pulls away, you’re both breathless. he rests his forehead against yours, his eyes searching yours.

“i’m so sorry,” he whispers.

“i just wanted our first kiss to be something special, something we’d both remember.”

you smile through your tears, feeling pure love spread through your chest.

you now understood what people had meant by feeling lovesick, because you felt like you were about to throw up butterflies.

“i understand now,” you say softly as you as you cupped his cheek, sunghoon leaning into your gentle touch.

“i’m so sorry i doubted you, hoonie.”

sunghoon wraps his arms around you, pulling you into a tight, warm hug.

you can feel his heartbeat against your own, steady and reassuring.

“i promise, i’ll make every moment with you special,” he murmurs into your hair.

“you mean so much to me.”

and as the two you walk the rest of the way home, hand in hand, the air feels lighter, filled with a new sense of closeness, bond and understanding.

a new step into your relationship.

sunghoon’s fingers intertwine with yours, and you can feel the love and care in his touch. it’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes.

when you reach your door, sunghoon stops and turns to you, his eyes shining with a mix of affection and a look you couldn’t quite place.

“i’ll see you tomorrow?” he asks, a hopeful smile playing on his lips as he rubbed the nape of his neck nervously.

you nod, feeling a sense of joy, excitement and anticipation.

“definitely, hoon.” you reply, your heart full.

sunghoon leans in for another kiss, this one soft and lingering, a promise of many more special moments (kisses..) to come.

as you watch him walk away, you can’t help but feel grateful for the love you share, knowing that even though you both may be shy, and your similarities may clash together often, your feelings for each other pure and real.

that night, the two of you fall asleep with a smile on your face, dreaming of all the beautiful moments that await you in your relationship.

 Forever With Me

your eyebrows furrowed at jungwon, who stood across from you. “you have got to be kidding me,” your arms crossed. he smiled sheepishly, “i’m sorry but this year, it’s your turn for the back seat.” the back seat which you’ve always avoided since every year niki sat back there. “jungwon, this trip is a four hour drive, you want me to sit next to him for four hours?” jungwon sighed at your question. “with the drivers rotating, you two don’t drive so it’s easier this way.” curse you for not having your drivers license.

“i am not happy about this,” your arms crossed as you plopped down on your couch. jungwon sat next to you, resting his head on your shoulder. “it’s only for the ride there, you can manage yeah? just take your headphones.” you sighed and nodded, “i’m only doing this for you and the others, don’t expect a peep out of me.” jungwon smiled at your words, knowing there was no way you’d keep quiet against niki.

the days leading up to the road trip, you tried your hardest to avoid niki. key word tried, he always finds a way to get under your skin. whether its taking your seat while out to eat, or cutting you off in line at the mall. it never failed to get a rise out of you. the boys could practically predict what the two of you’d say to each other.

“at least say excuse me, you gremlin,” jake mocked you. “move, you always take to long anyway,” sunoo was quick to mock niki’s response. they of course never did this in front of you two, afraid of even more warfare. despite how funny the arguments could be, they also got quite annoying. the constant bickering was enough to have the group want to rip their hair out.

niki was in no better spirits about having to share his precious back seat with you. he barely liked to share with the guys but to have you back there? the boy wanted to just unpack and not even go. “it’s not that bad,” jake said watching niki angrily shove the remaining items he had into his bag. “it is that bad actually, she’s insufferable. how can i sit next to her for four hours?” niki looked at jake with furious eyes. “look if you drove then maybe you’d be better off, but it’s easier this way”, jake shrugged. niki seriously needed to get his license, he rolled his eyes. “see you in the morning man, just take your headphones and ignore her i guess”, he patted niki’s shoulder before leaving.

you were the last stop before they could go on the road. niki was already annoyed. he only had his wired headphones, the car they rented had a small back seat, so he’d be even closer to you then he wanted to be. he rolled his eyes watching you stumble to the car with your bags. his eyes followed jungwon who jumped out to help you. the trunk opened and jungwon placed your bag in the back, handing you your smaller one. “thank you wonnie,” you grinned, hugging him. “you’re welcome.” he opened the sliding door to let you in.

in the second row sat, jay and jake. the middle was occupied by sunoo and sunghoon. heeseung was driving and jungwon had the passenger seat. “hi everyone,” you greeted them before climbing into the very back seat. niki furrowed his eyebrows when you finally sat down, your shoulder brushing his slightly.

with the reduced space, your legs and shoulders were touching his. niki began bouncing his leg, the annoyance of sitting next to you already bothering him. you looked at him, you wanted to scold him for bouncing his leg, but you remained calm for everyone’s sake. once heeseung checked that everyone was ready he began driving.

everyone was conversing amongst themselves, you tried to occupy yourself on your phone, by looking out the window. niki was like a statue next to you, besides his leg that was still bouncing. you leaned up, propping your head on the back of the middle row seat. “hi,” sunoo giggled seeing your head pop up between himself and sunghoon. “hi,” you grinned.

he motioned with his head, “doing okay back there?” you sighed,” i guess so,” niki let out a groan shifting away from you causing you to fall back from the seat. “stop leaning against me,” niki snapped. “spoke to soon,” you whispered to sunoo before returning to your seat. “sorry jeez,” you scoffed, leaning away from him as far as you could. niki rolled his eyes at you.

a few minutes had passed, you subconsciously began tapping your fingers against your leg. to whatever beat you had in your head, niki clenched his jaw at the rhythmic pattern. it was unbelievably irritating, “can you not?” he asked. you turned to him confused, “what?” he rolled his eyes, “stop tapping your fingers it’s annoying.” you narrowed your eyes at him, “yeah? well so are you bouncing your leg but i didn’t say anything.”

he rolled his eyes and stilled his leg, you smirked slightly before stopping the tapping. you laid your head against the window, feeling sleepy. however the small bumps the car hit were uncomfortable. your smaller bag only had a few things in it, not holding the small stuffed animal you were looking for. it was a small bear, you’ve had since childhood you literally always bring with you. turning so you could reach in the trunk, your body kept bumping into niki. the boy groaned, “what are you doing now? can’t you just sit still?,” he tried to scoot away from you. “i was looking for something,” you grumbled clutching the bear and turning to sit back down. “seriously?” niki noticed the bear you were now holding.

“that could of waited,” he snapped. “i’m going to use him as a pillow, it’s..you know what, i don’t have to explain myself to you.” you placed the bear in a spot to cushion your head. niki scoffed and adjusted in his spot. his leg pushing into yours, “could you maybe not be a dude and save me some room,” you asked pushing his leg back over with yours. “i can’t help it,” his eyes rolled. that’s all his eyes ever did when he looked at you. “we have to stop for gas, if anyone wants snacks or to stretch their legs,” heeseung spoke. once he pulled into the gas station everyone piled out of the car. your arms stretched above your head, a soft groan falling from your lips. goosebumps covered your skin as a chill breeze went by. “can i borrow a hoodie, anyone?” you spoke. they all nodded saying to just grab one from the back. opening the trunk you dug through the bags until you came across what you were looking for. pulling out a large gray zip up hoodie, you smiled once the sleeves covered your cold arms. jungwon came bouncing out of the gas station with a bag full of snacks. “here y/n,” he said, handing you a bag of skittles and a bottle of sprite. “thank you wonnie,” he smiled and got into the passenger seat.

you dreaded sitting next to him again, but everyone was ready to get back on the road. niki had his head turned away from you when you got in. your chest tightened but you refused to let him get to you. “can you scooch over a little bit?,” you asked, squeezing into your seat. his leg was partially on your side. he let out a scoff before pulling leg closer to his side. taking your seat, you pulled your hood up and leaned against the window. niki’s eyes drifted to the hoodie you were wearing, his hoodie. he felt his heart pounding against his chest, you looked so good in his clothes. sunoo turned towards you, holding out his bag of gummie worms, “want some?” you nodded reaching into the bag and grabbing two. “thank you,” you grinned.

niki was silent, a storm was brewing inside him. he didn’t think it was fair that you got along so well with the boys. why couldn’t you get along with him like that? why did you two hate each other so much? truth is neither of you could pinpoint any moment that could of caused the mutual feeling of hate between you both. “riki would you like a gummie worm?” sunoo asked holding the bag out to him. niki looked at it seeing no blue left, then he noticed the blue gummie worm in your hand. “no someone already took the last good flavor,” he huffed. your eyebrows furrowed and you handed the gummie worm to him, “here,” his eyes widened as he stared at it. part of him wanted to take it, he didn’t know what caused him not to. “i don’t want it after you’ve had it in your hand,” he grabbed a red one from sunoo before turning to ignore the both of you.

sunoo turned back around to ignore the brewing argument, but you shrugged and said nothing. trying your best to not fight with him.

it wasn’t long before another fight broke out. the bouncing of his leg? a fight. the tapping of your nails? a fight. sunoo pointing out you were wearing niki’s hoodie? a fight. “y/n isn’t that riki’s?,” sunoo pointed towards the gray hoodie on your body. you looked towards the hoodie and shrugged, “yeah i guess so i just grabbed one,” your eyes quickly glanced at niki who had a scowl on his face. “maybe ask before wearing someone else's clothes,” his voice was cold.

“but i did, i asked to borrow a hoodie.” you were quick to defend yourself. “well you didn’t ask to borrow mine so why are you wearing it?” his eyebrows were furrowed. you turned towards niki, angry. “why are you so upset about it? it’s just a hoodie, i’ll take it off. i’m trying to be nice but you’re being a prick,” your hands reached for the zipper pulling it off and tossing it towards him.

your perfume filled his senses as he folded the hoodie and set it beside him. his heart was racing for many different reasons, the glances from the boys made him more angry. “no one wants you here anyway, so of course i’m being a prick,” niki seethed. “i’ll have you know the boys want me here, otherwise i wouldn’t of been invited,” niki laughed. “you’re only here because they pity you, because you cling to them—to everyone like an abandoned puppy. nobody wants you here.”

it felt like your heart stopped. “riki that’s not true,” sunoo spoke up. you drown them out turning towards the window ignoring the boys attempts to speak to you, ignoring niki’s longing glance. his own heart wrenching as he caught sight of the tears welling in your waterline. he put his headphones in and turned towards his window. the familiar sounds of his alternative playlist playing. his leg continued to bounce yet this time you were dead silent. ignoring him all together, he hated to admit it but he missed the attention.

what felt like hours passed before niki couldn’t take it anymore. he plucked one of his earbuds out, handing it to you. you looked at the earbud, then up at him. he wasn’t looking at you, but the thought of hearing music was better than whatever silence your latest fight had caused. swallowing the lump in your throat, you placed the earbud in your ear.

the familiar lyrics of ‘if i’m james dean, you’re audrey hepburn’ filled your ears. your eyes widened not expecting niki to share the same music taste as you. taking the risk you scooted closer to him, to shorten the length of the headphone wire. he let out a deep breath, relaxing his body resting closer to yours.

niki took the peace between you as his chance to apologize. the car intensely quiet, he didn’t trust his voice to come out as a whisper. niki’s hand wrapped softly around your wrist, pulling your arm towards him. he waited to see if you’d pull away, when you didn’t he took a breath. using his finger he carefully spelled out ‘i’m sorry. your breath was caught in your throat, as your heart was hammering against your chest. niki stopped spelling but his hand remain on your wrist, his fingers itching to lace with yours.

taking a chance you opened your hand, palm up. niki was quick to lace his fingers in yours. the song continues between the two of you. sealing your feelings for each other. you leaned your head against his shoulder, your body relaxing against his. niki sighed contently resting his head on yours, his hand holding yours like you’d disappear if he let go.

your relationship was far from mended, the two of you were content with the comforting silence you created. the music and movement of the car was enough to lull both of you to sleep.

in the front seat jake and jungwon shared a knowing look, jungwon grinning knowing he purposely took your headphones. jake smirked knowing their plan worked, and they’re friendcation would be peaceful afterall.

 LALALA OKOKOK

LEE HEESEUNG

heeseung wasnt the nicest nor the most friendly person to meet. he doesn’t talk much nor does he have much friends. but due to his good looks he often had girls fawning over him or receiving love letters in his locker.

it annoyed him; that was until he met you

his little ray of sunshine that could never make him annoyed, his favourite girl that could never make him sad, and his darling, who always cheered him whenever he was feeling agitated.

“baby stop it..” he'd mumble, though his actions say otherwise; his hands were at the back of your neck, pulling you closer to him.

“says the one that won’t stop kissing me.”

“oh shut up.”

PARK JONGSEONG

jay isn’t the person you’d go to to ask for homework tips or to ask for help for. it’s just the way he stares at people and his dark voice that scares them off.

but when he’s with you, his whole demeanour changes. one might even wonder if he has an identical twin because the way he acted around you wasn’t very “jay park” of him.

sometimes he’d be nuzzling his nose against the crown of your head while you talked to your friends, or he could even be seen smiling and laughing at the jokes you made.

you were the bubble in his life he never wanted to pop, bringing colour to his days and a smile on his face.

SIM JAEYUN

calling him scary was an understatement. he only had two facial expressions, one for when he was bored and the other for when he was annoyed. honestly you can just lump them up together and nobody could tell the difference.

that was until your sweet and kind self showed up into his life, or rather barged into his life, is what he’d like to call it.

ever since you came into his life, he finally knew how to smile without being forced to. he knew how to wrap his arms around you and pepper kisses all over your face. you were the only exception and the only victim to his affection.

not that any of you minded anyway.

PARK SUNGHOON

he didn’t gain the title of “ice cold prince” for nothing. he didn’t bat an eye to the girls who gushed about him constantly, nor did he pay any mind to the teachers who complimented him on his performance in school. nobody could really find it in themselves to joke around with him, simply because he was too scary.

to them at least. with you, he was like a lovesick puppy, always following you around. he was used to compliments from others, never really seeking them out; however, when he was around you, he always asked you whether he did well or if he looked handsome.

“hey princess, do i look good today?” he’d ask while burying his face into the part where your neck meets your shoulder.

“what kind of question is that? you’re so silly,” you’d giggle and card your fingers through his hair.

“cmon.. just answer the question.”

“fine fine! you look absolutely adorable and handsome today, my hoonie.”
