Hi There, It's Your Check Please Secret Santa!! It's Not The Greatest Time In The World Right Now, So

Hi there, it's your check please secret santa!! It's not the greatest time in the world right now, so I thought I might try and brighten things up by asking who your fave character from CP is! Full explanations welcome

Aw this is incredibly lovely to receive today, thank you! I hope you’re doing OK. *sends love* So yeah, Bitty’s probably my fave because he’s this bright, excited, earnest, loving Southern kid whose world is expanding and who’s finally getting the experiences he hoped for. I just want him to be happy. I also like Ransom a lot because he’s handsome and kinda weird and a character of color (and Holster and Ransom’s friendship or romance is beautiful, as are their totally accepting attitudes toward Bitty). And Georgia; I feel like we don’t get enough of her, but she’s a powerful woman and has a sense of humor, and accepts Jack. I’m from Virginia, love the South for all its flaws, and express affection through baking, so I identify with Bitty, but I’m obsessive, scholarly, and anxious, so I identify with Ransom too. :)

Aw, this was so nice - thank you! You seriously brightened my day (like Bitty!). I hope you have as good an evening as possible!

we have to assume that this isn’t the end. being fatalistic is easy, and feels almost good, but fundamentally, it gets us nothing. i believe in our ability to make things better. i believe that we are strong, that every oppressed and downtrodden individual in this country is strong and beautiful and deserves more. i love you all and i think we can make this better.

CPSS back again, and what's your favorite thing to bake? what are you best at baking?? Are those different things??? I'm asking the hard hitting questions here

you continue to bring delight and joy into my inbox. uhh probably proudest of baking croissants. I make bad-ass croissants. They take 3 days. (They’re the ones in my profile pic.) On an everyday basis, probably best at baking bread, like artisan French-style crusty bread? I make it with sourdough culture, but the only bread I’m not that good at making with sourdough culture is sourdough itself. Irony!

Oh oh oh, this one’s my favorite, but not that many people in my life enjoy it, so I don’t get to make it that often. I put golden raisins in it: https://flourishen.blogspot.com/2015/12/carrot-and-walnut-levain-bread.html

And now you know far more than you probably wanted to about my baking habits!!

No. Resist this narrative that we shouldn’t sit with grief and other emotions if we want to make a change. Resist this narrative. Mourning is part of organizing, if we want to do it in a way that doesn’t leave us burned out or suicidal. Listening to what our bodies tell us about our needs for rest and renewal, loving and taking care of ourselves and each other, allowing ourselves to collectively experience the weight of things that happen…that’s building radical community and future too.
