My Face Is Having Uncontrollable Spasms. Great. It Hurts Really, Really, Really Bad.
My face is having uncontrollable spasms. Great. It hurts really, really, really bad.
I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think “Well, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot more” so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that “10” is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said “6” because I thought “Well, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.”

Also, I’d always gotten the sense that Sirius...by the time we meet him, Sirius inhabited the dog form, *was* his dog form, in a way that James probably never needed to be with his stag. Remember that the three friends learned the Animagus form as a challenge and a way to be with their best friend a few nights a month. I’m sure they loved their animal forms. But it wouldn’t have been second nature to become them.
Then came Azkaban. Sirius needed a refuge. He turned to the form of an animal that's happy, present in the moment, and literally known as man’s best friend. He disappeared into that animal form to survive, to guard some of his memories, to hold onto part of who he was. Like any spiritual practice, for some people it’s a discipline that they can do. James was the person who really enjoys meditation classes and works hard to be able to sit for longer. Sirius is the person who spent his adulthood in a Zen monastery, until mindfulness became a part of his being.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again since no-one has yet given me a valid reason as to why James Potter, lacking a wand, didn’t just transform into Prongs when Voldy turned up and like… fucking spear him. Why didn’t he do that? Like I don’t care how astonishingly powerful a dark wizard he was, no-one could ever be prepared for walking into a house and there’s just… a massive fuck off stag staring you down? How could you possibly react to that?
You couldn’t, giving said stag the opportunity to put an antler through his eye and save the day. Not to mention, can you imagine the Prophet headlines if that was how it’d gone down?
Hmm. The tribe most closely implicated has raised issues with the way this campaign is unfolding, which should at least be listened to. Article here.
Statement below.
This is not how you do allyship.

so MassDOT is planning on bulldozing a 10,000 year old village near Northampton, Massachusetts after they discovered it last year trying to build a roundabout. im putting some info about it here, and i will reblog this post with a link to a petition and the twitter thread if you want to read up a little bit on what’s happening

So...
My boss just called me to inform me I was let go .

Oh, I am so here for Chekhov's safeword.
This week in writing, 5/11
Hey so! I somehow remembered how to write this week? Apparently? In entirely unexpected directions? Whatever, I will take it.
Words written this week: 4,813
Second Quid Pro Quo Followup story: 639, and stuff! is! happening! at some point I may even complete a chapter! And… then probably I should figure out how Chapter 2 goes.
Little and Broken, but Still Good (aka Dorian Pavus Secret Baby Kidfic): 463, and I think I’ve gotten Chapter 6 sorted so now I … just … need to keep going? Hm.
Trial of the Linens Lambert Story: 192
Toss a Coin to Your Tailor: 1,659, in about an hour, as an insta-reaction fic after FINALLY watching the first two episodes of The Witcher.
Quick Little Coda Story for Sell Your Body to the Night: 1,860, and… I could explain the chain of thoughts and circumstances that led me to come up with a story I needed to write following up on the Teen Wolf hookerfic I posted in 2014 and spent five years insisting I was not going to write a sequel to (which this still isn’t, really) and then actually sitting down to take a crack at writing it, but… idk, maybe five years is just how long it takes me to loop back around after leaving a long-time fandom? I have no idea.
