From what I hear on MDL, Xiao Ruojin drugging Yi Wenjun isn’t in the source material, and many Chinese watchers (especially Xiao Se fans) are upset about it. The Dashing Youth show-writer(s) likely added that in order to make Yi Wenjun less complex and/or less morally grey for her romance with Ye Dingzhi. Anyone is welcome to put as much stock into that writer’s decision as one wishes. Just know it doesn’t mesh particularly well with how things are told in the novels or in the Blood of Youth

The finale has left me with even more questions 😹 Dashing Youth’s Jin Wei is wearing the Blood of Youth’s Jin Yu’s clothes, and Jin Yu has a cool new outfit (and he’s played by an entirely different person than was listed on the cast list—what happened there?)

It’s interesting to see that Jin Xuan and Jin Yan swapped clothes between the shows, rather than Jin Yan merely stealing Jin Xuan’s.

Yes, many questions, but I’m definitely happy to see the five of them together again! 🍠 Here’s to hoping the Dark River show will give some hints or answers to the mystery of the Five Eunuchs’ switched clothing!

Ooh! Such a fascinating thought! Interestingly, there’s already a bit of an opposition drawn between the Five Eunuchs and Dark River in the novel, insofar as Jin Xuan believes that he and Su Changhe cannot coexist—they agreed when they first met that the Imperial Court belongs to Jin Xuan and the Martial Arts World to Su Changhe. It’s definitely interesting thinking about how Jin Xian and Su Muyu might parallel each other in some ways, while their bosses hate each other yet assist the same prince.

I don't know if its just me but Eunuch Jin Xian reminds me of Su Muyu. They are similar in a way both of them can be corrupted in a place where they work at. Court politics and Assassin organization? But somehow they are not tainted and manage to be still righteous in their own way? The way Jin Xian emphatize with his fellow eunuch and want to avenge them reminds me of Su Muyu feeling bad about Su Changli's death saying the youth is not an assassin but more like a warrior so he don't deserve that death?
