Tony Stark + Steve Rogers (insp.)

Tony + the shit he says to Steve
“no trust—liar.”
what people just don’t GET about the “no trust, liar” scene is that steve did nothing to keep the team together in civil war. this isn’t me hating on steve, or saying that the accords were good, or (god forbid) dredging up any of the old cw discourse. but the thing is, steve did not want to compromise in civil war (he had his reasons, etc. etc. this isn’t about the accords and i never wanna talk about those again). steve rejected compromise, steve rejected olive branches, he rejected meeting in the middle. steve didn’t see a way to keep the team together without these, so he let the team fall apart. because that’s steve – committed to his ideals (and his loved ones, as bucky was an important motivation in civil war), hell or high water. one of tony’s crucial motivations in civil war, by contrast, was expressly to keep the team together: “i’m trying to keep you from tearing the avengers apart!” “i’m doing what has to be done to stave off something worse.” “we need you, cap.”
there’s a reason for this, and the reason is that pivotal scene in age of ultron. “how were you planning on beating that?” “together.” and then, later, tony agrees: “like the old man said – together.” tony rejects the idea of ultron after it failed and blew up spectacularly in his face, and he accepts steve’s alternative plan: we will deal with the threat of extraterrestrial calamity (that tony saw coming for miles) together, as a team. the avengers is all we have to do that. that’s why tony is desperate in civil war to keep the team together. there is no more ultron, there is no more anything except them, to defend the earth against thanos [tony doesn’t know the name at this stage, but he knows the concept – existential threat to humanity from outer space]. tony rejects his own ideology, of ultron, because of the havoc it wrought, and accepts steve’s. “together.” he relies on this, because it’s all he has left. he relies on the fact that steve believes him, understands him, and understands what is coming – and he accepts steve’s way of doing it after his own was a catastrophic failure. “like the old man said – together.” tony listens – doesn’t try anymore to win the war before it starts, doesn’t try to end the team, doesn’t pursue any ultron-like projects, but holds onto the fact that being together is all that they will have when calamity comes.
then civil war happens. tony is clinging to “together” like a lifeline (because it is, to him) and steve seemingly forgets about it, or at least prioritizes the more immediate concerns he has over the concerns raised by tony in age of ultron. no more avengers is fine with him given the circumstances that the accords put him in. meanwhile, tony is desperate for the avengers to not be torn apart. you can say that he was misguided in his attempts, and he could have done more (i wouldn’t probably agree with you, but that’s a whole other thing), or he could have done differently, or he shouldn’t have signed, and this that and the third – but, regardless, there is no questioning one of his baseline motivations: the avengers need to stay together. by contrast, steve seems to have forgotten altogether about tony’s concerns re: extraterrestrial calamity in age of ultron – or he has re-prioritized, where tony has not. natasha also articulates this point, directly to steve: “staying together is more important than how we stay together,” which is a thesis steve explicitly rejects in this scene. say what you want about the two sides, but there was one party much more interested in keeping the team together than another, and that’s just a fact.
then infinity war happens – then, they lose. they weren’t together, and they lost. THIS is what steve lied about. the “liar” obviously has to do with their last scene together in cw, when tony finds out that steve lied to him about his parents for some time, but this is also obviously one of the connotations of “liar.” you said we would fight it off together, and you weren’t there. liar. this is why tony brings up his “vision” of calamity in the no-trust-liar scene, because steve either didn’t believe him or didn’t care to take it seriously enough, in tony’s view. he didn’t try to stay together, didn’t accept the olive branches and compromises, and then they were apart, and they lost everything. sure, tony could have tried mending fences (though, i don’t blame him for not trying), just as steve could have – but what tony is saying, ultimately and not exactly incorrectly, is that the reason they were not together – the reason that they were split in the first place – when thanos came was because of steve. steve didn’t listen, steve didn’t trust tony, steve didn’t heed the warning, steve didn’t stay together when that was all that they could do to stop what tony saw coming. again, this isn’t me saying steve was definitively wrong and tony was definitively right in civil war (that’s another whole post, again), but only that steve did not care as much about the team staying together, and that’s why tony has no trust. that’s why he blames steve.
and, for everyone saying he could have called steve…he did. or, nearly did, until thanos’s crew showed up literally at his doorstep. he’s the one who said steve rogers would know where vision is, he had the phone with him and was prepared to call almost as soon as he found out what was coming from bruce. just because he didn’t make the call in the end doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have, because everything in that scene in infinity war suggests that he would have had he not had to immediately prioritize the safety of civilians against the black order.
but that’s even beside the point. the point is, in age of ultron, tony thought steve listened and understood and trusted what his fear of the future was, and steve proved in civil war that he didn’t. then that exact fear came to pass in the most terrible way possible, and tony was exhausted, malnourished, ill, and horribly traumatized, and here was steve trying futilely to fix it after the fact, when it had been festering in tony’s mind for six years and he had tried so hard to prevent it, all within steve’s parameters, “together,” without “trying to win the war before it starts.” sure, maybe you could say tony had some blame in what he is accusing steve of in the scene, since he did not try to mend fences earlier, but he tried everything to stop the team from splitting back in 2016. and even if you think he is partly to blame, that doesn’t mean his anger and anguish is unwarranted, because it is so not.
Friendly reminder that there’s only 1 month until Crescent City!!!

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) dir. Joss Whedon
foreshadowing done well makes me go feral like there’s NOTHING better than getting to the end a book or an important storyline moment and realising that the author laced information so intricately into their writing that weren’t noticeable upon first read but when you read back sections they’re light giant red flags like wow writing is amazing

Happy new year lads
Friendly reminder
Tamlin preferred to send Lucien to hunt Feyre, his “beloved” fiancée, because he didn’t want to move his ass from his fucking throne
Friendly reminder
Aelin is more than her scars, assasinations, fire, and crown.
Friendly reminder
Azriel never became soft just because elaine showed up. He is still the most deadly of the boys, rhys even says it. He is just the only one who treats elaine like a person.
Friendly reminder
Aelin isn’t just some strong headed “hope this will work and if not: fire and explosions” bull in a china shop.
Friendly reminder
Aedion isn’t just some stupid comedy relief. He’s not stupid at all actually
Friendly reminder
Cassian isn’t just a some stupid and funny comedy relief. He’s not an idiot at all actually.

Dorian: Iron Man- Billionaire playboy, protective of others, smarter than you’d expect

Chaol: Captain America- Does what he thinks is right, that bod 👀, has been there since the beginning

Kaltain: Gamora- Way more hardcore than you EVER guessed, moral compass is shifty but overall her heart is in the right place, heartbreaking stories

Elide: Scarlet Witch- Bitch has got some MAD POWER but you’d never know, doesn’t let her guard down easily, underestimated

Manon: Black Widow- Could kill you in the blink of an eye, keeps her (big) heart hidden, ICONIC

Rowan: Thor- Hot as fuck, a living legend, gets a haircut and OH BOY WAS IT WORTH IT

Sartaq: Black Panther- His country is his priority, calm demeanor but can destroy you if needed, motivated by his heart

Lorcan: The Hulk- fighting between two sides of himself, can wreak havoc like no other, soft at his core

The King of Adarlan: Ultron- Still a bad dude but nothing compared to what’s to come, not entirely in control, satisfying ending

Fenrys: The Winter Soldier- Fighting for himself, beautiful man, very strong in battle

Gavriel: Starlord- His heart is his downfall, complicated family situation, loyal to people he trusts

Lucien Vanserra grew up in an abusive environment and had no idea what it was like to be truly appreciated. Tamlin probably treated him better than his brothers/family and that’s why, despite the fact that he wasn’t very well treated (he’s basically Tamlin’s bitch and never gets appreciation?), he probably stayed with Tamlin? Because it was better and he thought it was as good as it would get and as good as he deserved. It’s also why he’s so friggin surprised about Rhys and Feyre’s court. It’s not just because Rhys isn’t the bad guy after all, it’s because everyone’s treated with respect.

Finally finished this piece of Manon Blackbeak from the Throne Of Glass book series! I post much more frequently on my instagram if anyone is interested @crimsonmermaidart :) I hope you all enjoy this piece as much as I did working on it
Rowan Whitehorn gives off strong Li Shang vibes and you can't change my mind on that.
Which means that Heir of Fire is just I'll make a man out of you with extra angst...

Younger Az headcanon
Hi, hello, yes, it’s me again, Satan. I have a sad little headcanon for Az because I wondered why Az hated going to the camps more than the others. CAUTION READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION. (Tears may ensue)
When Azriel first got deposited into the Illyrian camps and taken into the care of Rhys’s mum, he was illiterate, and all the boys used to tease him about it, mocking him relentlessly, trying to get him to read pages from books only to see him stare blankly at the pages and stutter. This didn’t help with the fact he was skittish and suffered from low self-esteem.
Rhys’ mum started his tutoring immediately. Rhys and Cass, being the little shitheads they were when they were younger, also lightly teased Azriel when they came home and saw him trying to read a children’s book.
Az, was stubborn and tried not to let it affect him too much because he was finally getting to do things he’d been previously deprived of and he would never take those experiences for granted but that didn’t mean he didn’t feel hurt from the constant words from other. In fact, he was sort of used to it because had gotten similar treatment from his brothers.
The first time he was given his own bed in Rhys’ mums home, he cried. Like a baby because in his windowless cell he was just given a blanket and a thin mat to sleep on the floor with. The first night in the bed was rough and he couldn’t fall asleep, so he’d listen to Rhys’ gentles snores and Cassian’s subtle shifting but sleep never came.
It took him almost a month to really get some decent sleep in his nice new bed because he’d never experienced anything like it before. He’d make sure every possession he owned or received from Rhys’s mother was in immaculate and pristine condition.
Rhys’s mum caught Az staring at her journal intensely one day. She quickly put two and two together and got him his very own journal with pens. The next day she caught him sitting in the corner, by himself, practising his lettering. He still kept that journal til this day.
Azriel marvelled at Cassian and Rhys’ many groups of friends and he’d often watch them from the shadows, playing and laughing. He wondered if he’d experience such things one day, but when Cassian and Rhysand where in the same vicinity as each other, they would start arguing relentlessly.
Az learned to always hide his hands growing up. He would look at the disgust on the other Illyrian’s face when they saw the hideous burn marks, for a long time none of the boys wanted to pair up with him to spar because they were so off-putting.
Girls didn’t show interest very much in him either. He was weird and an outcast. They thought he was scary with his mutilated hands and constant swirling of shadows plaguing him.
The boys knew Azriel had been trying to learn how to fly on his own. He hadn’t been making much progress and one day some of the more noble born Illyrians found Azriel secret training space and started bullying him and shoving him around. It just so happened that both Cas and Rhys were heading by and heard the commotion. Since Az had been living with them for a while now, Rhys felt some sort of responsibility for the boy and felt guilty if he just left him there, undefended and outnumbered and Cassian only tagged only because he claimed he could let Rhys ‘take all the glory’
And thus, this is how our OT3 became our OT3.

Cassian as a royal Illyrian prince.

Cassian as a royal Illyrian prince.
Here is my wonderful and brilliant theory that Cassian is not a low-born Illyrian – he is the prince of one of the noble houses of Illyria.
Firstly, the Bone Carver calls him as Prince of Bastards. Is it just a figure of speech, ambiguous and abstract phrase and nothing more behind the scenes? Seems that all these ancient creatures prefer to speak frankly with their visitors.
“What did you wake that day in Hybern, Prince of Bastards?”
Secondly, Azriel and Cassian wear Siphons, which concentrate and focus the killing power in battle, and only princes from noble houses and ancient clans were honored to wear Siphons. Magic possessed only by the most powerful, pure-bred warriors. Azriel is also a bastard as well as Cassian, however, it is stated that his father was one of the local lords – he is an offspring of the noble family.
“We love our people, and our traditions, but they dwell in clans and camps deep in the mountains of the North, and do not like outsiders. Especially High Fae who try to tell them what to do. But they’re just as obsessed with lineage and have their own princes and lords among them. Az,” he said, pointing a thumb in his direction, his red Siphon catching the light, “was the bastard of one of the local lords. And if you think the bastard son of a lord is hated, then you can’t imagine how hated the bastard is of a war-camp laundress and a warrior she couldn’t or wouldn’t remember.”
“He tapped his crimson Siphon with a finger. “A bastard Illyrian had never received one of these. Ever. For Az and me to both be appointed them, albeit begrudgingly, had every warrior in every camp across those mountains sizing us up. Only pure-blood pricks get Siphons—born and bred for the killing power. It still keeps them up at night, puzzling over where the hell we got it from.”
Thirdly, let’s call it as a smart move in the plot of the whole series. Cassian has a fantastic foundation as a low-born bastard on an unknown warrior, he still knows nothing about his mother or his roots and how she was killed.
And fourthly, he is called as Enalius among Illyrian soldiers. Enalius is a warrior-god and the first Illyrian.
“Nesta listened to the low-level Illyrian soldiers whispering about how Cassian had thrown that spear, how he’d cut down soldiers like stalks of wheat, how he’d fought like Enalius”.
Come on, if Nesta is going to become a Queen, she needs to have her own King.
PSA: no name is impossible to pronounce. no name is too hard to learn, no name is justifiably butchered. kids with 'different' names should be taught again and again that being called by their name is a right, not a privilege
