As an eldest sibling myself I wonder how often Arthur beats himself up over having 'failed' as the eldest brother. how much does it hurt knowing that he was so fucked up that his baby brother had to look after him when it should have been the other way around. Add in how much guilt he feels over John dying because of a trigger that he ultimately pulled and guilt over Tommy and Ada constantly needing to clean up after him as he sinks deeper and deeper into addiction? Well, no wonder he is the way he is.
