Danny Phantom has such a natural, legitimate setup for torture fics. Like torture fics are more fringe in other fandoms but in ours, torture is a very mainstream genre. Like so mainstream Sam would hate it.

A lot of things I like in fiction I like specifically because I wouldn't want them in real life. For example, I like reading works where characters get hurt, definitely in part because I hope that I nor anyone I know will get badly hurt in our lives. I read about it so I can still know what it would be like without having to experience it myself.

I mean, isn't that the point of fiction? We see about all these worlds that we can never get to, but with fiction we can imagine what it would be like. The only difference here is experiencing negative things rather than positive. I guess people don't get how anyone could like imagining something negative, and assume it's positive for them?

Maybe that's just me, though.

Instead of being a story about Danny learning not to cheat on a test, The Ultimate Enemy should have been a lesson in self-acceptance and not rejecting a large part of who you are, with Dan being presented as the culmination of negative self-perception and a character who struggles being two separate halves of two different individuals with conflicting moralities and experiences. In this essay I will

DP x Marvel

SHIELD knows about Phantom but they give him a low level threat classification because they think he can't leave his haunt.

This impression stems from a few curious Avengers coming to meet Danny and insinuating that he'd be a good addition to the team. Danny is thrilled at the idea but then thinks about how much Amity would suffer without him and has to reject their (unofficial) offer. He says

"That sounds amazing, but as much as I'd like to, I can't leave my haunt."

What he means is "can't leave my haunt unprotected" but his denial gets interpreted literally. As in Phantom physically cannot leave his "haunt". Maybe he even escorts them to the edge of town and is like "Well, this is as far as I can go, but it was nice to meet you all. Stay safe and keep protecting the rest of the world :)" that of course being as far as he can go and still get back in time for his next class.
