Woooo let’s get real for a moment
I am from the US. The intruder alarm went off at my school today. It was lunch period. At first none of us understood what it was, we’d just had a new security system installed and didn’t know what it sounded like. Tomorrow is also Survivor Day (kinda like a fun day where we do sports and games all day) so we all thought it was something for Survivor Day until my principal comes around the corner with two admins and there’s a confused panic on her face.
Oh fuck.
Suddenly every teacher in the cafeteria is yelling for us all to get into the gym and get to the locker rooms. We’re running. My friend I was with gets into the locker room and I stop to make sure all the other girls behind us are making it in since those that were in the gym when the alarm went off didn’t know what was happening. I’m panicked.
I don’t go in until one of my other friends is walking over and I ask her if she knows what’s happening and I start crying. I walk in with her and huddle in with the girls. No one knows for around five minutes what is happening. I am crying and texting my mom and the girls around me are rubbing my back.
The only thing I could think of was my little sister. Where is she? Is she okay? What is happening? Luckily today she was on a field trip and was an hour away from the school.
We were in the locker rooms for five to ten minutes if I had to guess. A middle schooler had pulled the alarm. I spend my next class crying and trying to come off the adrenaline, taking with my classmates about what happened, their experiences. One girl had a video of her she’d recorded when she thought it was something fun and I saw the moment her face fell.
I hate this country.
i really love when a character, calmly and completely earnestly, is like i’m not important, i’m no one really, just a blade that people use and throw away. no one remembers me for long after i leave their life. and then you look at the evidence and it turns out that every person who meets them becomes permanently obsessed with them, for better and for worse, and the character has somehow completely missed this fact
