"Da told me that you served, and that when you were wounded you came back here and helped when Granny Cora opened up the house as a convalescent home for officers." Sybbie had been asking more questions about those years, lately. What with war on their doorstep it was only natural.

"I want to help, I just don't know how yet."

Sybbie smiled, and held out the unlit cigarette in Barrow's direction, if her Da caught her smoking he'd be fit to be tied, but Barrow had always had a soft spot for her and George, he wouldn't give her away.

"What Da and Lucy don't know won't kill them, come on, Barrow. I'm not a little girl anymore. Smoke with me." She also wanted to hear all about Hollywood, she had missed the former butler while he'd been away. Thank God Mr. Dexter had brought him back to England, and thank God Aunt Mary had insisted he stay at Downton.
