Lapis Appreciation
I love Stronger Than You but this..
I hated her being left behind and subjected to danger again, even though it wasn't "possible" to save her. I feel like they portrayed her reaction really well. She doesn't panic, she just accepts what will happen because she's so used to being hurt. I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to go down on a crashing ship - I feel like it'd be different for gems as they can pretty much survive any conditions. A human would have passed out or died, but Lapis just has to go through it, and it breaks my heart. During the beginning of the series, and for most of her life, Lapis is going through loss after loss and can't seem to ever get a break.
I still wonder why the Crystal Gems didn't let her out in the first place - surely Pearl would have known it was a gem, right? But I guess at the same time they didn't have access to healing powers so they might not have been able to do anything. I just find it interesting.
This scene stood out to me a lot - her elevated voice and her genuine happiness. Her connection with Steven is the cutest thing and I think it really helps her personality shine. Lapis, of course, was destructive when she was fought against, but when she feels safe and is with someone who at least tries to understand her, she shows who she really is, and I love that more and more through the series, she's allowed to open up and fight for the things she loves and believes in.
